Supporting local industries As part of the Hull College Group, University Campus Scarborough is committed to working in close partnership with local businesses, the Local Enterprise Partnership and the wider community in order to ensure that the needs of the region are met with high quality educational provision. The region is set to become a vital centre for renewables, which will require additional skilled individuals to take forward its growth into the future. See pg 23 for details about our Engineering programme.

As well as a commitment to supporting current industries, we will lead the way on skills development in new and emerging industries. This will prepare the next generation of students to help realise their potential to enhance the local economy.

As the Scarborough borough continues to grow, the demand for quality housing is also on the rise. The homebuilding growth proposal will act as a catalyst for wider regeneration of the area, calling on the skills of a wide range of construction professionals to bring the plans to life. See pg 25 for information about our Construction programme.

The initial curriculum offered in 2015 provides opportunities to upskill in a range of areas including construction and engineering, business, professional studies and health

and social care. We will also work closely with local organisations and stakeholders to identify those skills areas of particular significance to develop an exciting new curriculum in 2016 that will serve the future higher skills needs and growth potential of the region.

Part-time study

Study Your Way written by the BA Business & Management part-time group, 2014 (pictured)

At Hull College Group, the majority of our programmes are available to study on a part-time basis and indeed many of our students choose to study around their existing commitments including full time jobs and families. Here’s what some of our students had to say.

12

I can’t recommend this course enough; to get my degree in three years whilst working was definitely the best way to do it, I only wish I’d done it sooner. It isn’t always easy, but with support from the college and class you just get through it! Also three years seems like a huge commitment but the time has disappeared so quickly.

I work in the area so coming to College was a ten minute drive after work. Another reason it appealed to me was the ability to work and develop my career whilst I studied, not to mention getting paid whilst I do it. The ‘open door’ policy from the tutors made it easy for additional support when needed and the e-resources and library are incredibly helpful.
