MATERIAL ART
HD Gallery is based around the idea of ‘materials’ as the driver of the creative process. The gallery has been established in the heart of Châtelain, an Art precinct favoured by Collectors, along with Belgian and foreign galleries for its dynamism within Brussels, the European capital. Located at 150 Rue Defacqz , in the former Amandine store, HD Gallery is primarily devoted to the notion of ‘materials’ in a venue that has been completely re-designed and renovated in order to host artists and designers. HD Gallery is making available its venue to young Belgian and international artists, a versatile space in which to display their work via mongraphic and thematic exhibitions. The artists will be presenting their works working with notions that oscillate between two worlds : imprint and indentity, trace and memory, movement and migration. The works propose an alternate reality and perception of the

of a certain material, and call into question material, economic, symbolic or spiritual values.
With the remaking of the material, as primary source of inspiration, the artists are engage in a ‘show of force’ between construction and deconstruction, producing powerful works, suggesting a tension, sometimes gentle, sometimes brutal, to translate their ideas and to design a notion of ‘going beyond’. This artistic approach drives a permanent renegotiation favouring a meeting of possibilities in which their interpretation utimately resides in the emotions of those who choose to see, to watch. Two spaces offered by HD Gallery, have been envisioned with the idea of ‘materials’ in mind. HD Bis
opens a window into young and contemporary creators via intersecting projects in the style
of a project room showcasing and instigating new artistic directions.
This space is envisaged as a kind
of work in progress, set up to follow the approach of the gallery and to assist in the recognition of emerging artists within the contemporary art scene.
HD Capsule will offer temporary collections of limited edition art objects that meet the demands of the ‘material’ as a process of creation in itself. In the form of updated themes, the Capsule collection will seek to add value to the materials used by artists, designers, craft workers, producing an eclectic series of objects. The selection will be presented soon, and will be the occasion of a singular event to be held at gallery.

Our DNA and Guiding Principles The primary activity of the gallery is based on the organisation of thematic or monographic exhibitions - with four major events held during the year along with participation in Art Fairs in the Benelux and France. As
well as this,
HD Bis,
the space in the basement of the gallery, offers temporary and ‘ephemeral’
projects in the form of residencies, performances and other exhibitions
designed to complete an overall approach to the notion of ‘the material’.

BOVY BEMBERG - Designers Bovy Bemberg
duo are engaged in the field of marquetry with an ultra-contemporary approach in the light of
the way the artists have re-appropriated the technique to deal with issues in the context of existing aesthetics.
Their
works represent an alliance between craft, design, graphism and contemporary art.
The
works find an
equilibrium at the frontiers of those disciplines engaging in stylised approaches and in the birth of a particular form defined by graphic texture.
Bovy Bemberg present a mix of strong skills and rich experiences invested in marquetry whilst inventing pieces that are beyond unique, refreshing this art form in a completely contemporary approach. Part
of the extreme skill of their work lies in the the duo’s ambition to place the object, and therefore the
matter, at the heart of global artistic and aesthetic considerations. Marquetry allows Bovy Bemberg to explore, invent and deploy their vocabulary in a personality added production.
Their works are on permanent display at the Gallery HD, but the duo is dedicated also to projects and specific commands.

The work becomes a kind of visual tool slipping from one state to another, making the work an unstable construction combining fiction and reality. In this way the artist is rethinking memory as a fragment as fragile as these ephemeral moments in themselves. Gerris’ works offer a sense of architectural compositions that need completion. His images seem to be suspended in order that the beholder may retrieve memories or imagine an ending to an unfinished story. The

SYLVIE GUYOMARD - Sculptor Sylvie Guyomard’s work takes on a form of interiority through its investment in slate as a reflective material. Her works allow a rediscovery of slate in creations that suggest power and energy as much as they can simultaneously suggest simplicity and serenity. Sylvie Guyomard uses slate as a material open to light and to the eye that skims over its tamed but still natural surface. The artist preserves the original appearance of the material suggesting a registering of time as its stratified layers gradually reveal its nature. Her works are graphic compositions of an aesthetic as subtle as it is raw, playing with light to fire up a chromatic palette. Her works are on permanent display at the Gallery HD, but she is dedicated also to projects and specific commands.

KASPAR HAMACHER - Designer Using nature as his starting point is characteristic of the the work of Kaspar Hamacher. His pieces enhance wood as his chosen material in their simplicity and fragility, revealing original works that lie somewhere between craft, design and contemporary art. The artist explores the limits of wood in an authentic approach through both physical and conceptual interventions, transforming a natural element into a unique and functional object. Kaspar Hamacher’s method is based on a balance between authenticity and imagination, producing design pieces that updates the material of wood in a personal and modern aesthetic. His approach gives his wooden pieces an original power along with a unique poetic form.

PIPALUK LAKE - Glass Artist Pipaluk Lake works glass through a combination of strategy and tactics, engaging with the material in a pointed dialogue. Moving between matter, processes, will and experience, the artist experiments with many associations, in organic and tactile forms and overlays to suggest the substance and the life of glass. Pipaluk Lake pushes the technique and mastery of glass in intensive experiments renewing the creative potential in fusing materials. She reveals glass in moments of magic in which the material takes on new forms allowing the discovery of a dream world beyond physical manifestations. Pipaluk Lake’s
works seem inspired by a fleeting moment before committing to the heart of a ‘clinch’
with her material and her artistic intention, producing unique pieces of a non- conventional beauty.
