LARRY TOOMER
Larry Toomer was first elected to Bluffton Town Council in 2012 and then Mayor in 2023. He is a fourth generation commercial fisherman who owns the Bluffton Oyster Company (the last oyster shucking factory in South Carolina) and Toomer’s Seafood Restaurant. His great-grandfather came to Hilton Head in 1913 to oyster and shrimp.
By 12 years old, Mayor Toomer was helping with his family business and pulling 100 crab pots a day. He graduated from McCracken High School in 1976. In 1986, he met his wife, Tina, on the beaches of Hilton Head Island and has grown his family, his career, and his life in Bluffton ever since. They have five children, one “bonus daughter,” and many beautiful grandchildren.
STEPHEN STEESE
Stephen Steese is a native of Florence, S.C. He has been with the town since 2021, and previously held the same role in Easley, SC for 6 years previously. He earned two degrees from Clemson University – a bachelor’s in political science and a master’s in public administration.
Steese and his wife, Brooke, have been married for over 20 years, and they have two children.. They all enjoy attending sporting events, traveling, and enjoying the river and beaches.
The Leadership Alumni Association is collecting athletic ball donations to benefit 2024 Holiday Toy Shop Basketball, Soccer, Football, Volleyball, Tennis, Golf...any sport! You can drop off, or have items shipped to the following locations:
