THE UAE HAS WITNESSED PHENOMENAL GROWTH AND TRANSFORMATION ACROSS ALL SECTORS, INCLUDING WOMEN EMPOWERMENT. AT EXPO 2020, THE WOMEN’S PAVILION SHOWCASES CONTENT FEATURING FEMALE CONTRIBUTIONS TO SOCIETIES, SHOWING THAT WHEN WOMEN THRIVE, HUMANITY THRIVES.

THE CONCEPT
In collaboration with Cartier, Expo 2020 Dubai Women’s pavilion has revealed creative content and programming that will help reaffirm Expo’s commitment to gender equality and women empowerment.
Based on the principle that when women thrive, humanity thrives, the pavilion is set to celebrate the important roles that women, both unknown and known, have played throughout history and continue to play in in present times.
THE AIM
With a packed schedule of programming and through its New Perspectives exhibition, the pavilion aspires to inspire everyone who visits to become change-makers. Also, breaking stereotypes and deconstructing misconceptions on women’s roles, and elucidating on how women and men have contributed to gender equality and women empowerment.
THE CREATORS AND ARTISTS
Visitors can enjoy a creative, multi-sensory – highlighting the initiatives enabling women to thrive so humanity can thrive; and Engaging with visitors – encouraging them to become champions of gender equality and women empowerment and take the journey forward.

Some of these curators include international multidisciplinary artist eL Seed; French actor, filmmaker, singer and pianist Mélanie Laurent; French interior architect Laura Gonzalez; Dubai-born artist Kholoud Sharafi; Lebanese actor and Oscar-nominated director Nadine Labaki; and French light designer Pauline David.
THE STRUCTURE
Endorsed by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, United Nations Under-Secretary General and Executive Director of UN Women, the Women’s pavilion features five structures with different narratives on the ground floor. These include: Introduction – expressing the purpose of the pavilion; Achievements – shining a light on women’s impact on the world; Challenges – acknowledging what is holding women back; Solutions
MEANINGFUL DIALOGUES
Among additional events, the programming and meaningful dialogues that will be hosted include a Women’s World Majlis to discuss the role of women in creating a cleaner, safer, healthier world, and the Women in Arabia and Islam series, showcasing reallife stories of women who have led the way throughout history. Also, Expo’s diverse and dynamic workforce includes women from 62 nationalities and 59 percent of its female employees are aged 35 and under. Moreover, 38 of their international participants are represented by female Commissioner Generals, while many of the Country Pavilions were designed by female architects, including those from Australia, Oman, UK, and Sudan.H
