s oonenough,theClassof2023willmaketheir wayacrossthegraduationstage,markingthe endofwhathasnodoubtbeenatransformative fouryears.

Whenthesestudentsenteredhighschool, thethoughtofapandemicwasinconceivable. TheusualstressesoffreshmanyearwerecompoundedbyCOVID-19,distancelearning,and uncertainty,buteventuallytheyadjustedtotheir newnormal.

Wecaughtupwithacoupleofhighschool seniorsfromtheFairfieldCountyareatoseejust howmuchthey’vegrownoverthepastfouryears. Theydiscussedtheirfavoritememories,learning throughaonce-in-a-lifetimepandemic,andtheir aspirationspost-graduation.

MarkCroninIII,ofTrumbull,isasenioratSt. JosephHighSchool.Thealmost18-year-oldwill attendtheUniversityofRichmondinthefall, andplanstomajorineconomics.Hesaidhistime atSt.Joe’sbolsteredhimwithimmenseconfidence,somuchsothatheeventuallybecame classpresident.

We played music, sang, danced, played on the tennis courts, and talkedabout almost every subject there is. We all missed dinnerthat night andended up staying on campusuntil 9 p.m., but we didn’t care. We enjoyed sitting and appreciating our campus, even in the dark. This moment caused agreat amount of self-reflection;it made me realize how lucky I was to attend a school I enjoyed going to.”

“Thiseventisoftenthefirsttimeithitsourseniorsthat graduationisinsightandtheirdaysatHarveyare numbered,”DirectorofCollegeCounselingMegBooth said.“Itisareallynostalgicandbittersweetdayasour studentssoregularlydevelopsuchadeepconnection toourcommunity.”

Whenthesestudentsshowuptoschoolwearingtheir collegegarb,“Youcanfeelitintheair,”anImmaculate representativesaid.“Studentsareexcited,proud,unified, andreadyforthenextstep.Itistrulyacommunitycelebrationinourschool.”

AlongstandingtraditionatWoosterSchoolisthe“Senior Send Off.” Here, the community gathers to hear students’ plans forSeniorIndependentStudy(SIS)aswellaswherethey’re goingtocollege.TheSISisafive-week,off-campusintensiveinwhichseniorsdevelopapersonalcapstoneproject.

This is just another piece of Connecticut’s literary puzzle; it has served as home to some of the most prominent and historically significant authors in the country. Many of them have longstanding landmarks in the state to honor their legacy.

KIDSCANENJOYTENNIS ANDSPORTSCAMPAT GREENWICHRACQUETCLUB

The Greenwich Racquet Club offers both atennis sports camp and a tennis-only camp. The tennis sports campis primarily tennis, but also includes indoor soccer andbasketball. Studentsareplacedaccordingtoageandskillsetusing thecorrectcourtsize,balls,andracquets.Fundrillsandgames areimplementedtodeveloppropertechnique,footwork,and ballcontrol.

This popular program runs in weekly sessions, Monday through Friday, June 26-Aug. 25. Every Friday is PizzaDay. No membership required.

Red Ball (8 and under)

Children age 4-8 play on a 36-foot court with mini net to develop basic techniques and simple tactics while playingfun individual and team games. Hours: 9:00 am-12:00 pm OR 9:00 am-1:00 pm OR1:00 pm-4:00 pm

Orange Ball (10 and under)

Children play on a 60-foot court with full net to focus on technique, balance, match play rules, andbasic strategy.

Asforthatnextchapter,eachseniorfeelsconfident theircollegeyearswillbejustasmemorablethankstothe academic,social,andemotionalenrichmenttheyreceived inthehallsoftheirrespectivehighschools.

It was not the public speaking itself, but the opportunity I had to share my gratitude for my classmates publicly. I get to go to school every day with people I admire, who uplift me, and who help me become my best self. MAKE - MODERN

Make-ModernisacraftingstudioinDarien thatofferstraditionalhandcraftclassesin machinesewing,knitting,crocheting,needlepoint,andmoretochildrenaswellas adults.IthostedanAprilBreakCampfrom April10-14,withamorningsessionforgrades K-2andanafternoonsessionforgrades3-5.

WOODCOCKNATURE CENTER

Nowthattheweatherhaswarmedup, somechildrenenjoyedtheirspringbreakin thegreatoutdoors.Thatwascertainlythe caseatWoodcockNatureCenter,which provideseducationalprogrammingformore than4,000learnerseachyear.

StraddledontheWilton-Ridgefieldborder, thisexpansivepreserveimmersesvisitorsin thenaturalworldthroughschoolfieldtrips, summercamps,enrichmentprograms,and more.ItsSpringBreakCampinvitedchildren ingradesK-5togetanup-closelookatthe worldaroundthem.

“Childrenexploredourforestsandvernal poolhabitatsandsearchedforamphibians andpollinatorsastheylearnedaboutthe springawakeningoflocalplantsand animals,”DirectorofEducationSarah Breznensaid.“Campersalsometlive animalsupclose,creatednaturecrafts, andplayedgameswhiledeepeningtheir connectiontothewild.”

TheHarveyCollegeOfficebeginsindividualadvisingfor allstudentsinthefalloftheirjunioryear.Eachjunioris assignedtooneofthreecollegecounselorswhoguide studentsandparentsthroughthecollege-decisionprocess. Beforejunioryear,theofficeencouragesninth-and10thgradestudentstoexploredifferentclassesandactivities, andhostsCollegeNighteachspringtosetexpectations.

AtImmaculate,collegeprepstartsonDayOne.Eachstudentisassignedacounselorforfouryears.Atthebeginningof freshmanyear,counselorsinterviewstudentstoidentifytheir strengths,weaknesses,goals,andpassions.Intheirsophomoreyeartheyparticipateincareerday,andasjuniorsattend anAlumniPanelpresentationandCollegeNight.Intheirsenior year,studentsfinalizewhichschoolstheywanttoapplytoand meetwithcollegerepswhovisittheschool.Lastfall,119collegesanduniversitiesvisitedImmaculate.

Woosterprovidescomprehensivecollegecounselingwell intojunioryear,andensuresalljuniorshavemultipledraftsof theircollegeessayreadyforsenioryear.Additionally,itsCollegeGuidanceofficereflectsalargerself-awarenesscurriculumthat’sembeddedthroughouttheupperschoolprogram.

AccordingtoBooth,19studentsfromtheClassof2023 wereacceptedtocollegesthatpastHarveystudentshad neverbeenacceptedtobefore.

“Weareveryproudtoexposestudentstonewopportunitiesandseethatthey’vehadsuccessindoingso,”she added.“ThefinalmatriculationlistforHarveyisalways varied,representingthewiderangeofstrengthsand interestsofourstudents.”

Immaculatereporteda100percentcollegeacceptancerate,andin2022,itsstudentswereoffered$33.5 millioningrantsandscholarships.Studentsfromthe Classof2023havebeenacceptedatmorethan90 collegesanduniversities,includingBostonCollege,FordhamUniversity,LoyolaCollege,WakeForestUniversity, andVillanovaUniversity.

Bairdsaid99percentofSt.Joe’sseniorssubmitted 1,564applicationsto316colleges;morethan10percent appliedtoCatholiccollegesanduniversities;andthat therewasanotableincreaseinstudentswhoapplied EarlyActionandEarlyDecisionthisyear.
