When you hear the phrase “horse country,” Greenwich, Connecticut—just across the border from New York state and a mere 40-minute train ride from midtown Manhattan—may not immediately come to mind. Yet, among Greenwich’s diverse hamlets, neighborhoods, private associations and regions is beautiful backcountry where luxury homes meet equestrian farms and the Greenwich Riding & Trails Association maintains a system of riding trails that riders relish.

Currently, there are just two remarkable equestrian properties up for sale in Greenwich—and one just over the border in Stamford, which also offers direct access to the GRTA trails

Just across the Greenwich border at 107 June Road, Stamford is a 4.84-acre property, with a three-bedroom home built in 1928. Known as “Mead Farm, it’s currently listed for sale with an asking price of $2.95 million.

“Mead Farm is an exceptional property,” according to the listing agent, Compass Connecticut Realtor Bridget Voght. “There is so much to offer including on-property access to the Greenwich trail system.”

The property also abuts the Newman Mills Park, but these are not the only noteworthy things to mention about the location.

“The ease of access to Manhattan makes it a true contender for someone who wants the city life or is committed to a job but also wants to enjoy their horses daily,” Voght suggested.

“You can quite literally sit on your patio and watch your horses graze while enjoying morning coffee then hop on the train and be in the city in 45 minutes. The Hamptons are just a stone’s throw away with one of the most notable equestrian events of the summer.

“The heartbeat of Mead Farm is its incredibly successful multigenerational lesson program, which has been made possible by the location of the farm, its close proximity to Greenwich and [New York City], but most importantly by the farm’s ability to handle such volume To find a property that is set with 26 stalls, multiple rings and trails—with a successful profitable program—is so rare in this market,” Voght noted. n
