2023 Year in Review – Heart & Stroke Young Leaders
Letters from our Chairs
THE HEART & STROKE YOUNG LEADERS had a record-breaking 2023, and we couldn’t be more proud.
At the beginning of this year, we were coming out of a challenging period for fundraising and event planning, and we were eager to make up for lost time. From the start, we knew we wanted to try new things, and the energy, momentum, and commitment from the group made this possible. In total, we held EIGHT events that brought together 350+ people – from trivia nights, to lawn bowling, to fitness events, to a virtual silent auction. We also saw numerous examples of independent fundraising – whether that be hosting a softball tournament, running a marathon, or hosting parties.
Across all initiatives, we raised more than $40,000, which is the most ever raised by a Heart & Stroke Young Leaders Committee. We were blown away. On top of this, we continued to advocate for the cause and tell our stories. Our lawn bowling fundraiser served as the national premiere for CardiacCrash™ training. Five committee members joined a body of Heart & Stroke delegates to visit Queen’s Park and Parliament Hill to speak about the importance of preventing youth vaping. This year’s group was the most passionate and dedicated we had ever seen. Everyone was brought together by a personal attachment to the cause, and together, we found a way to turn these personal experiences into a positive impact. We can’t wait to see what next year has in store. We know this is just the beginning! Allison Tse (SHE/HER),

Recognizing Generosity We had plenty of event sponsors, donation partners and businesses support us throughout the year. Without them, our event programming and fundraising goals would not have been achievable. Thank you for your generosity!

New Year, New Vision When we beat as one, we achieve so much more together. We are committed to continue raising funds for live-saving research through events geared toward communities of like-minded people.
Focusing on quality, we plan to ensure our events are diverse and accessible, allowing for a broad range of audiences to be involved. Our committee members are encouraged to fundraise their way throughout the new year – this way, each member can contribute by doing something they are passionate about.
