Every month, I battle with myself wondering what I am going to talk about in that little segment of mine. Looking back at the past weeks, let’s see… I got a new home: ReBourne Rocks! Spent a small fortune in fashion, and apparently I am having a rabbit farm! A rabbit farm you ask? Well yes, I started off with 2 cute bunnies and now, it is getting out of control! Oops, back to work! You may notice a bit of a small change in the layout, I have to say I am liking this one a lot. The content remains the same, so it seems this issue will have slight tendency to go towards charitable
live events and another wonderful live artist. Back to feeding the bunnies and I hope you enjoy the issue!
ps: Do not forget to have a look at our new remodeled site! We are syndicating quite a few blogs covering areas like fashion, sl viewers, events, Linden Labs, etc. It’s a wonderful centralized source of info! xoxo Angel

Animations by Bert Calamari
Login No matter what you are doing in Second Life, you are using animations, even if you don’t realize it.
Despite the name, animations do not necessarily make your avatar move, but they always alter your pose. Without an animation, your avatar would do a reasonable impression of the classic Leonardo da Vinci drawing of the human body, with arms and legs spread wide. SL normally takes care of animating your avatar, but if you want to look good you need some control over how your avatar moves. Dance Machines A club is incomplete without some way for people to dance. Normally this comes in the form of a ball suspended above the dance floor, or a board in front of the dj’s booth. When you click this you start dancing; clicking it again stops you. An alternative to club dance balls is the chim. Chims are effectively just dance machines that can be
worn by an avatar, so when other avatars click it they dance. So when a girl tells you to click her butt to dance, she’s not necessarily being over-friendly!
Tip:
Sometimes you find yourself unable to stop dancing, either because you forgot to click the dance machine before leaving the club, or the owner of the chim you clicked left or crashed. If this happens to you, then you can always stop dancing by choosing “Stop Animating Me” on the “Advanced” menu. If you don’t see this menu, press Ctrl+Alt+D (or Cmd-Opt-D on a Mac) to reveal it. Animation Overrides
The default animations for standing, sitting and moving are functional, in that you can tell what they represent, but let’s be honest: they aren’t very attractive. Fortunately there’s an easy way to im-
11
12
prove your avatar’s movements – animation overrides (usually referred to as aos). You can easily find an ao if you don’t already have one. At time of writing the Free Dove has several for free, and is easy to find in search. You will, of course, almost always find better animations in a non-free ao. That “almost” is worth bearing in mind – be very wary of paying more than L$ 1 for an ao without seeing the animations first. Most reputable stores will have a modified pose stand that will let you try-before-you-buy. Customize Having said that aos are easy to find, if you can find the perfect one for you then you are very lucky. Most likely you will like most of the animations in one, but the walk and one of the standing animations from another. Fortunately most ao’s are modifiable so you can change or add animations at will. A word of warning before you
start: if you make any errors editing your ao you can break it, so always make sure you back up any notecards before changing them, or work from a copy of a free ao. To edit your ao, drag it from your inventory onto the ground. Make sure you know exactly where you are dropping it – the ao will be small, and some are also completely transparent. If this is the case, press Ctrl+ Alt+T (or Cmd+Opt+T on a Mac) on your keyboard to show transparent objects. These will then appear highlighted in red. The same key press will undo the setting. When the ao has appeared rightclick on it and select Edit, then click on the Content tab. You will see two different types of items listed: notecards and animations . Drag any extra animations you want into this window, and make a note of their names. Be careful doing this, as sl won’t be able to find the ani-
Login
mation unless you get the name exactly right. Once all the animations you need are in the ao, you can modify it to use them. You do this by editing specially formatted notecards. Most aos are based on one original script – the Franimation overrider. That means that they use settings that look like this: :: [ Walking (also Striding) ] :: walk2 :: [ Standing 1 ] :: *MM* Model pose 3 :: [ Standing 2 ] :: *MM* Model pose 5 :: [ Standing 3 ] :: *MM* Model pose 12 :: [ Standing 4 ] :: sultry pose :: [ Standing 5 ] :: stand pensive These will either be in a single notecard named “*Default Anims”, or there may be multiple notecards with different sets of animations if your ao supports this. In this case, the notecards will have
the same names as the animation sets in your ao. When you double-click the correct notecard you should see a listing resembling the one above (only much longer).
Tip:
If your animation list looks different, look for a notecard named “read me” (or similar). This will give instructions on modifying your particular ao.
You will notice that the notecard contains two lines for each animation – a description of the animation (such as “Sitting”, “Walking” or “Flying”) and then the name of the animation to use, or a blank line if no animation is set. To change an animation, simply type the name of the animation you want on the line under the appropriate heading. Just be careful not to add or remove lines, as this will prevent the ao from finding your animations. When you have finished editing, click “Save”, close all open windows and take the ao back into your inventory. Then simply wear the ao as usual and enjoy your new moves!

¶ My first exposure to Edward was at a cozy little venue packed to the brim with more women in one place than I’d ever seen in my entire Second Life. ¶ Immediately I was willing to give him a chance, (location, location, location) but the longer I stayed, the more curious (and addicted) I became. I was new to live music in sl, and I still had a lot to learn.
Cover
I was exceptionally naïve and couldn’t imagine how someone could play the guitar and sing all from the comfort of his own computer. From his haunting cover of Radiohead’s Creep, to his nostalgic and powerful version of Guns N’ Roses’ Sweet Child of Mine, I couldn’t fend off the persuasive inkling to figure out just what he was about, and how he it was possible for him to be doing this amazing live mu-
sides to sides, and whatever other directions there are. I was able to set up an interview with Edward, and fortunately for me, I was allowed to delve into his world of musical life, love, and reflection. When you think of musicians with Southern residency, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Muse aren’t bands that typically quickly come to mind. When I found out that Edward had at one time hung his hat in Seabrook, Texas, I was
sic juju. It wasn’t long before I was attending Edward’s concerts on a regular basis. His sets were perfect for me to cut my teeth on the happiness that is live music in Second Life. There are a lot of musicians out there who are a little less than easy on the ears, so it was pure lottery lucky that I stumbled onto him when I did. After a dozen or so shows, I was on a mission. I wanted to know the ins and outs, the ups and downs, the
more than a little surprised. “I lived near Boulder, Colorado, for a few years in the 80s but spent over 20 years in se Texas. I lived in Phoenix in 1997 while going to school, moved to Seattle in 1998, lived in Austin for a few years and came back to Seabrook in 2008.” With technology and the magic of the interwebs, it’s a wonderful side-effect that anyone can be influenced by any music. Anywhere, any time.
23
24
Musicians are quite often plagued with crappy parents and hopeless home lives. Some of the best songs of all time have come out of broken homes, alcoholic mothers, and negligent fathers. I was primed to delve into some deep-seated anger, rage, frustration, and disappointment; however Edward had other plans for me. “My parents were always supportive of me learning to play music. I really owe it to them. I had
when I first started becoming interested in music. I remember listening to classical music in cartoons and understanding the impact of the music in relation to what I was watching on the screen. I loved listening to the old eight-track tapes my parents had. Old vinyls of funny music you’d hear on the Dr Demento Show like Spike Jones and Ray Stevens were some of my favorites. I was probably six or seven when I started playing around
a lot of friends on toy keyboards growing up that I jammed with that didn’t have that same support. My first guitar was a $ 100 acoustic from Sears, a Christmas present from my parents.” A passionate and talented musician that was supported by his parents? I wasn’t aware that this sort of thing was even possible. Edward wasn’t finished. His atypical beginnings became clearer as we talked more about his history. “I remember being very young
figuring out music by ear. I discovered rap and hip-hop about the same time as I was learning the guitar.” I was glad to hear that he had started out in music very young. In my mind, I wouldn’t have been able to stomach his abilities if he had just picked up a guitar last year and was already this good. “I took lessons from a guy that looked like Jesus Christ when I was nine, and he taught me the fundamentals and how to read music.
Cover
When we moved to Colorado in 1983 I found another guitar teacher, but he made me laugh so much I didn’t learn much from him musically. I eventually taught myself more songs, read guitar player magazines, practiced and played along to as much music as I could. I learned songs by ear and by memorizing parts. I didn’t study music formally in school until I was in college. At San Jacinto Community College in Pasadena, tx, I learned more about
see how favorite styles, sounds, and techniques can incorporate into something new and different. I was discovering new music all the time, dance music and pop of the 80s was huge, but I also found metal and rock music around age 10 and was drawn to the guitar. By the time I was sixteen, I was playing metal and trying to play the kind of distortion sounds I was hearing on Metallica and Slayer albums at the time. Music of the 60s and 70s came into to
classical theory, and proper ways to play the piano. In addition to all these things I was taking audio recording classes toward an AA degree. I’m still learning new techniques on the guitar, chords, progressions, inversions; it’s a very complex instrument, can always learn more and create new sounds.” Musicians always have a laundry list of musical influences. It’s always fascinating (at least to me) to
play when I was about seventeen because that’s the best stuff to listen to on acid and weed. My brother turned me on to the Doors, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, ELP, Zappa, and so much more.” If you ever listened to music at any time in your entire life, you’ve probably said at least once that you’ve always wanted to be a rock star/musician. After all, it’s all fun and games. The ladies love you, you don’t have to work a day in your

26
life, you get to travel everywhere, and you sleep on mattresses full of money. I asked Edward to take us through a day in the life of a famous Second Life musician. “I always have a busy performance schedule. After a few minutes of sorting out the daily onslaught of notices and note cards, I chat with my partner and manager, Sarenity, and start tuning/warming up. Stretching is vitally important for preventing rl injuries so I have a few rituals I perform before each show. The broadcast studio is usually set up all the time so it’s usually a quick sound check before I go on. I spend about an hour warming up, talking to people online, making sure everything is confirmed and ready for the show. I use a 30 GB iPod to play the backing tracks, that is mixed with my electric guitar and a couple of microphones for my voice and acoustic guitar through an analog mixer. “I usually try to get to the venue 10-15 minutes in advance to setup.
In rl, that takes hours and hours, loading gear in and out, driving, setting up, sound check if you’re lucky. It takes longer to do all that than the actually show! Then you have to tear down and load it all out again, drive home, load out again into your house. Rezzing things is so much easier.” It sounds like the life of a sl musician isn’t as hard as it could be. Everyone knows, however, that if you take out the equipment being loaded, unloaded, set up, broke down, loaded. and unloaded again, you also take out the opportunity for roadies. I don’t think there’s a music fan among us that would pass on a roadie. Even a nasty, old, smelly one. Regardless of the lack of equipment, lack of roadies, and lack of rl stage presence Edward puts on one hell of a show. After playing live music in Second Life for over two years, it seems he has a very firm grasp on what works really well, and what doesn’t. He’s gotten
Cover
to where he is through hard work, years of training, practice and experience. His sound and ear tickling shows are something that if you have yet to experience, you may (and by “may” I mean definitely) want to treat yourself to one. If you need information you can contact Sarenity Sirnah or Edward Kyomoon to join the group. “They can also search Blue Maverick Music group in world. I also have a subscrib-o-matic group if people
don’t have groups’ slot available. I perform six days a week in sl and searching live music events is also a good way to find me.” With opportunities six days a week, and a draw that brings in the crowds, there isn’t reason residents shouldn’t, at the very least check out Edward’s world. After he and his music draws you in, your perceptions about Second Life live music will never be the same.

by Ginger Fanshaw If you’re in the mood for great Country Western Music, wearing a cowboy hat, and doing some boot scootin’, there’s nowhere better than Black Horse Saloon, which has been around over three years now. Owner Excidium Stonewall says the secret to their success has been keeping it laid back and real down
home country. The first thing I noticed at Black Horse was that the club was packed at 6 pm est – usually not a busy time for clubs as many of us in the East are having dinner and many Europeans are asleep. Also, there was no event. No prizes to be won, just a great dj and lots of fun vips having a great time.
Clubbing Photos: Kala Balut In fact, the club only has three official events per week:
Sunday Wednesday Thursday Night Formal Event
6-8 pm 7-9 pm 8-10 pm
There is also a Bull Riding Competition every
every Sunday from 10 am slt till 10 pm slt
33
34
But vips drop in at all times to listen to great country radio and just hang out in the beautiful, full sim. The club itself has simple but definitely western look with line dance balls and and western art. Outside, there is the bull pen and horse ranch. The horses are also available for sale. Couples can stroll around the ranch and find plenty of ro-
mantic areas with slow dance balls as well, making it a great place to bring a date. Because Black Horse gets plenty of real traffic, at all hours, it also runs a successful mall with 26 stores outside the club. Plenty of Western-wear shops as well as regular shopping available. Stop by. Black Horse Saloon is definitely worth a look.

As the description tags tell all, this is a club for music, djs, dancing, events, parties, friends, fun, humor, hangouts, nudity (lots of it), naked (can’t say naked enough), sex, gay, bisexual, straight, lesbian, transgender, shemales, femboys, Tgirls, femme, sissies, and glbt.

Their club charter reads “If you like good tunes, good times, and good conversation with obscene humor (or sincere obscenity, for that matter) you’re in the right place! All openminded folks are welcome! (Transgender, Gay, Bi, Straight; Humans, Furries, tinies, creatures; whatever!)”. I found that to be factual as I have watched and/or danced with some of all of the above. ¶ The outside decor of OutSkirts Underground brings one to a parking lot and then to what looks like a Repair shop or Garage. The inside decor of OutSkirts is truly eye catching as one can not help but notice the huge Phallus that is centered and suspended in the air above the dance floor (it is a Sploder device). ¶ There are many kinky “innocent” looking apparatus strategically located here and there inside and outside the building. They told me that they bought the place from Plato when he retired from Club ownership. Plato Ninetails is the original founder of OutSkirts (of Town) that was in Funk Rush. He still djs there for the dj pleasure of it. ¶ What keeps drawing this newbie back to OutSkirts (and will draw other people there) is the warm greetings by many always given to those that arrive there and the patience exhibited when a new person asks how to dance or how to sit on the barstool

Toronto Heights
Mile-high living in style by Troy Aristocarnas – Photos: Kala Balut

Living For Second Life homeowners who treasure their privacy, living in a skybox would be the no-brainer of a choice. More so, such an option can be taken without even batting the pixels of an eyelash if the build in question happens to be that of the prefab Toronto Heights, a build from reBourne run by the husband-and-wife tandem of Danny Bourne and Suite Sella. Toronto Heights is an architectural gem that surely frees avis from the drab grayness that is a common predicament among those who chose to reside with only floating clouds in their immediate community. This jewel of a prefab skybox likewise delivers some claustrophobic avatars who shun being cloistered within spherical or carton structures wall-papered with sceneries which are suspiciously just cut-andpaste renditions from some glossy magazines or posters. Mr and Mrs Bourne, for sure, would have none of those. Danny is after all a legit interior designer in RL whose works have delighted many patrons of restaurants and
bars in his native Holland. A muralist, painter, and 3-D shaper, he also creates various sculptures, specializing in decors for children’s playgrounds and swimming pools. And don’t be deceived by his moniker “prim monster” among close friends. “I am helpful,” Danny professes even to the most nosey of strangers. This simple yet stout personal philosophy lends itself effectively to the reBourne venture in SL where customer satisfaction is paramount. Much of the credit also certainly goes to the other half of the enterprise, Suite, an art student in England who researches designs and ideas, as well as helps Danny build

prefabs like Toronto Heights. Currently finishing her art foundation prior to a university study in contemporary applied arts, Mrs. Bourne is also in charge of customer service, networking, and marketing for reBourne products. The Toronto Heights is surely one product that Mr. and Mrs. Bourne take pride as a showcase at their equally well-designed shopping resort selling not only prefab skyboxes but also houses, bracelets, gadgets, plants, trees and more. The Toronto build at once impresses as it comes alive after a TP to its portal. Most striking is the attention to detail given to this prefab, particularly the textures of construction finishing employed in RL, e.g. pebble washout and stone masonry that all are in the right places, from walls to roofs to stairs and walkways. Complementing this rigid attention to detail of texture quality is Toronto Heights’ impeccable prim alignment. Wander through its porch, living
and kitchen/dining areas, and then take the finely crafted stairs to the second floor’s two bedrooms, office area, and L-shaped balcony. What you will enjoy is a seamless whole of a place to call home in-world, surely the result of skillful and fine-tuned prim placement which certainly does justice to Danny’s “prim monster” alias. Available in a choice between a furnished and an unfurnished variant, Toronto Heights above all is a standout for its effective SL rendering of high-rise living in the city known as the cultural, entertainment, and financial capital of Canada. Meticulously deployed shadows through cloud accents, trees, and a waterfall conspire towards a threedimensional effect of a picture-perfect view of the Toronto nighttime skyline around the prefab. Throw in a TV airing a Raptors’ NBA exploit within this skybox and that in-world feeling of living mile-high in Toronto would be truly complete.

The Proposal
Comedy – 2009 – 108 minutes
When she learns that she’s in danger of losing her visa status and being deported back to her native Canada, overbearing book editor Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) forces her put-upon assistant, Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds), to marry her. Directed by Anne Fletcher (27 Dresses), this romantic comedy also stars Craig T. Nelson and Mary Steenburgen as Andrew’s parents, Joe and Grace, and Betty White as the outspoken Grandma Annie. The cast alone is reason enough to like this movie. This one had all the right elements: Great actors, witty dialogue, hilarious scenes, and an interesting idea. I died from laughing numerous times. The set-ups and obstacles they keep running into are riots... one actress in particular who steals
almost every scene she is in, is Betty White, who plays the hilarious grandma of Ryan Reynold’s character. The two are pretending to be in love, but the grandma encourages them to kiss in front of the family and sleep together in a bed. The whole idea is pretty great, although I would have preferred some better filmmaking, yet nevertheless, works. I don’t care what the critics say (although the critic in our state gave it four stars). Ryan Reynolds is charming and sweet, while also having a masculinity about him. And Sandra Bullock does the bitch-on-heels thing likeable. The film will keep you giggling, if not laughing your ass off for the full 2 hours. And thanks to the cast, it’s heartwarming and touching where it needs to be. See it!

Looking and acting oh-so sophisticated in her chic business suit, our heroine knows just what to do at a posh wedding when little details need attention --- such as the FOB (father
of the bride) starting to fall apart or the bride having second thoughts. Finding the bride’s father crying on a staircase, Mary uses the “first aid” arsenal she hides around her waist to spruce him up, then scoots him on his way. Consoling the unsure bride, Mary says, “You are exquisite. You are timeless. No wonder the groom told me ‘I can’t believe she picked me.’ Your marriage will last forever.” And so, this wedding, like the others she has coordinated, turns out to be a big success. While watching Mary supervise the ceremony from a balcony, one young girl whispers to her friend, “There’s the wedding planner. She must lead a very romantic life.” Nothing could be farther from the truth. Mary invests all her energy in her career, hoping to become

a full partner in the business she loves. Then, by accident, she meets the man of her dreams, pediatrician Steve Edison (McConaughey), and falls hard for him. “You smell like sweet plums and grilled cheese sandwiches,” she moans as he rescues her after a dislodged dumpster almost runs her down on a busy San Francisco street. But there’s a big disappointment in store for Mary. Why? Because Steve turns out to be the groom of her next wedding assignment. Although J-Lo is charismatic throughout the film, McConaughey seems as out of place. He’s awkward in two dance sequences with Lopez, even though his character claims he’s had many ballroom dancing lessons. He forces his smiles, looks goofy when trying to appear romantic, and projects insincerity in a serious confrontation scene with the woman he’s supposed to marry (Bridgette Wilson-Sampras).
