Toi Te Kupu Tuia ki runga, tuia ki raro, Tuia ki roto, tuia ki waho Tuia te here tangata Ka rongo te pō, ka rongo te ao Toi te kupu Toi te mana Toi te whenua Toi te Kupu is a Māori to English and an English to Māori dictionary. Toi te Kupu literally means hold fast to the language. It is our ambition to support the health and vitality of te reo Māori by expanding vocabulary. In particular, kupu about kai, the types of kai, the preparation of kai, the cooking of kai and the preservation of kai. As kai has a strong connection to health we have also included a number of health based kupu. Please learn and teach these kupu and use them every day. Foreword Toi te Kupu lies at the heart of our vision of fulfilling lifetimes with healthy hearts. If we teach children about the importance of healthy food they will grow up with this knowledge and be better equipped to look after their health as adults. For children in te reo MÄ ori settings, learning about healthy eating in te reo MÄ ori and having a nutrition vocabulary to draw on, provides the opportunity to learn about good nutrition in their own environment. The Heart Foundation has a strategic goal to stop the next generation of New Zealanders developing heart disease. Creating partnerships and working with others is essential if we are to achieve this goal. Toi te Kupu is the result of the commitment of two organisations working together to improve the heart health of our tamariki. The Heart Foundation is proud to have partnered with Toi Tangata in the creation of Toi te Kupu.
