Take Time Seriously

01 02 03 04 05 06 07

Breathe deeply. Take a moment and catch your breath. There is so much beauty in the world. Stop, take a breath and breathe it in. Reflect. Become introspective. Study yourself. How do you react, reason and respond? Know thyself, both the what, and the why.

Value every moment because the present moment is all that exists. The past is gone. The future will always be just out of reach, but today is here for us to enjoy, that is why it is called the present. Spend your time wisely. Time is the only currency that you cannot make more of once it is spent. You can’t recover it once it is lost. Spend it wisely. Spend time in daily self-evaluation. Reflect on what is working and not working in your life. You are here to gain understanding. Solomon says, “With all thy getting, gain understanding.” Pay attention to yourself. What you will learn will astound you. Balance your activities. Spend some of your time connecting with those you love, spend some accomplishing great things, and spend some simply pampering yourself. There are many things we must do in order to accomplish the many tasks that face us each day. Do the hard things first, once they are done, smile as you spend the rest of the day doing the things you love.

Each moment is a gift that will never return. Don’t waste your time brooding, sulking, or feeling sorry for yourself. Instead find something to enjoy and ENJOY it! Take the time to write down at least one positive experience every day. At the end of the month, you might be surprised how good your life really is. When you respect time, you are on time. The best way to be on time is to get to meetings, work, - everything early, take a great book and read while you are waiting. Time is a precious commodity. Don’t waste yours or others. People love to be respected. They love to feel that there time matters to you. Be on time, it will serve you and your reputation well.

Lord, grant that I may always desire more than I can accomplish. Michelangelo

Speak with Care

11 12 13 14

Communication is a gift. Offer it as one. When you speak as though your words were gifts, people are eager to listen.

Use “I” statements instead of “You” statements. When you begin a sentence with the word “You,” it can feel accusatory. Instead of saying “You don’t listen,” consider saying, “I feel as though I am not understood when I attempt to communicate with you.” Look into the eyes of the person you are communicating with. Make sure that you register the color of their eyes. People know when we are looking past or through them. Look at them. All words have meaning, only you can give them power and value. Speak respectfully, thoughtfully and carefully. Mean what you say and say what you mean.

15 16

One of the most important communication skills is listening. Most people confuse their ability to hear with their ability to listen. They are two very different things. Listening is responsible for 80% of a CEO’s salary. Listen with care.

You are not only responsible for the words you say, but you are responsible for how people understand your message. Be clear in your communication. Careful communication is clear communication.

Give Thanks

17 18 19 20 21 22 23

Winston Churchill tells us, “We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give.” Begin with giving thanks. There are many things to give in this world but none are more important than gratitude and appreciation. As you consider giving gifts, remember the perfect one: thanks. To extend a kindness, to dry a tear; to bless a life, to calm a fear, all of these and many more, these are the true gifts we have to give.

True purpose drives us to plant trees, under whose shade we will never sit, in gratitude for the trees whose shade we paid nothing for. Each day, each breath, each touch is a gift, treat them as such and you will discover life’s greatest treasures.

If you must be sad, weep for the lives your dreams never had, or live focused on breathing life into the dreams that breathe life into you.

Success is born out of the gratitude we show for it in advance.

24

With all thy getting, get understanding—understanding of the many gifts and talents you have to be thankful for.

25

Life gives you two choices, modify your dreams or magnify your skills; success only gives you one.

26

Reach high because stars are beyond the reach of the average hand, reach deep because pearls lie deeper than shallow waters, stretch wide because a rainbow is wider than you think.

It’s Your Choice

27 28 29 30 31

Only you can limit the size of your dreams, only you can squeeze the life from your expression, only you can choose to be a big as the sky, or as small as a raindrop. It‘s your choice.

Each person has inside them a basic decency and goodness. If they are courageous they will listen and act on that goodness and in doing so they will give the world a great deal of what it needs most. Respect is much like everything else: Once we have learned how to give it, we are better equipped to understand its value when it is given back to us. Set clear boundaries. Clear boundaries give birth to strong relationships. They provide a safety and structure, as well as much needed balance.

Speak for yourself. Represent you own thoughts and feelings. When you interpret and speak for others, you are heading off an assumption cliff. It can be a long difficult drop.

Avoid justifications. They are often excuses for a lack of integrity. Success requires we meet our obligations and our obstacles head on. No excuses. Turn your frustrations into innovative solutions. Success is built on the ingenuity of frustrated souls who took responsibility for their problems.

Forgive others. Don’t let the pain of the past be a determining factor in the success of your future. Your past cannot hold you captive. Set yourself free. Forgive yourself. Commit to your integrity, your character, your heart and dedicate yourself to the greatness you were born with. Let go of past failures so that your hands can be free to grasp the success of the future. Eliminate words and phrases in your vocabulary that are negative. Negative thoughts and words steal your focus and direction. They are senseless and success-less. Observe your surroundings. Are they conducive to success? If not change them.

Expect the Best

38 39

Find people who represent the values, expertise, and competence you are attempting to achieve. Find those who are living the dream you long for, and copy them. When you emulate greatness you become great. Life will give you what you expect. Expect the best and there may be a few disappointments along the way but there is also room for more than cynicism will allow you to imagine.

40

Love has three components: intimacy, passion, and commitment. These are also three of the keys to success. Ask yourself, “Can you believe success can be yours; intimately yours? Are you passionate about what you bring to the world? And are you completely committed?

41

Maya Angelou said, “If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded.” As you are racing toward success, are you inspiring and directing others along their way?

42

Expect the best, while you understand that there will always be bumps in the road. Success does not promise a smooth ride, it promises an incredible one. Make the bumps in your road to success an incredible part of the journey and see what magical moments you create along the way.

Live On Purpose

43

True purpose drives us to plant trees under whose shade we will never sit, in gratitude for the trees whose shade we enjoy and paid nothing for.

44

Self-consumption will never pay the dividends you are looking for in life. When you truly understand that it's not all about you, you will discover things that you love “all about you.”

45 46

Make a commitment to read something every day. Learn to fill your mind with wonderful, interesting, thought-provoking, inspirational thoughts. Great leaders are great readers. Turn of the television and give yourself a great gift - READ. The only way to achieve true success and happiness is to express yourself completely in service. You are only truly great when you benefit the lives of others.

Everyone is your teacher. From the janitor, all the way to the CEO of an interntional company, watch people carefully. Listen to them. Discover what makes them great and what causes them to be smaller than their potential. Watching others will teach you what to do and what not to do. Both lessons are equally important.

48 49

Set daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals. Contemplate them. Write them down. Research tells us that people who carefully set, then write down their goals are twice as successful as those who do not. Setting goals gives you direction and steadies your focus.

50

Think about your decisions carefully. Pray about them. Consider their potential and their consequences. Regret is heavy, while discipline is not only light to carry, most times it will carry you. Every action begins with a commitment to take it. Commitment to success and yourself is imperative. You must take a stand for your life and your choices. Without learning to commit you cannot trust yourself and others cannot trust you.

W

hen you decide

to pursue greatness, you are taking responsibility for your life. This means that you are choosing to accept the consequences of your actions, and to become the agent of your mental, physical, spiritual and material success. You may not always be able to control what life puts in your path, but I believe you can always control who you are. Les Brown Live Your Dreams
