Dear Scouting Parent, For more than 100 years, camping has been at the forefront of the Scouting program. It’s an invaluable part of what we do. Whether it’s roasting marshmallows over a campfire, facing your fears from the top of the climbing tower or even splashing in a pool on a hot summer day, the fun and adventure of summer camp stays with us for a lifetime. But the lessons learned in the outdoors do a lot more than just conjure up positive memories…summer camp helps kids become better adults. A recent study by Harris Interactive found that summer camp not only provided a summer escape, but it also helped young people develop strong personal values and character, a positive sense of self-worth and usefulness, a desire to learn, and even social adeptness. The outdoor experience is one of the most important aspects of Scouting we can provide for our kids. Even Scouting’s founder Baden-Powell once said, “A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room.” Help us continue the tradition of camping excellence in the Heart of America Council and let’s make sure every boy gets to experience the magic and memories of Scouting’s “outdoor classroom.” Yours in Scouting,
Brent Worley Council Camping Chairman
Aaron Guest Vice President - Program
Kenn Miller Scout Executive
