Volunteer Opportunities for Summer 2012 Monday, July 9th to Friday, August 10th Hundreds of lives get impacted every day because of the support of our volunteers. HOLA volunteers are vital to helping us provide our youth with a life full of positive development and new opportunities. Writing Tutor is needed to assist with writing assignments through brainstorming sessions, reading drafts, correcting grammar, etc.

Transition “Bigs”* are needed to share high school and college preparation experiences; engage in activities with “littles”; serve as role models for “littles”; mentor and ease the transition from middle school into high school. (*Must be a present or former Rope student.)

1 on 1 Tutor is needed to work with one 9th grader on communication and homework completion.

Mentors for High School Seniors: Volunteers are needed to help mentor one or two high school seniors during the 2012/13 school year. Mentors help guide students through the college and scholarship application process. We are especially looking for bilingual candidates, so that the we can involve the families of the students in the college process. The program will start this summer, and will carry through April/May of 2013, but often times mentors develop lasting relationships with their mentees. YOLA/Music Program Class Assistants are needed to support staff with academic classes and supervise students. Volunteers must enjoy working with children and have a professional demeanor. Orchestra Volunteers: YOLA at HOLA is in need of high-level musicians who play an orchestral instrument to come in and assist our beginning students (grades 1-6). Duties would include assisting teachers during rehearsals, conducting pull out lessons and acting as a positive role model and mentor. Music Creativity and Choir Volunteer: We are in need of positive volunteers to assist lower elementary school grade students in Music Creativity Class and Choir Class. Duties include assisting YOLA at HOLA faculty, learning alongside the students to model behavior, shadowing students with special needs and acting as a positive model and mentor.. Athletics Program Summer Athletic Camp - Volunteers to teach soccer, football, basketball, or any other sport. Volunteers needed to assist HOLA’s athletics counselors with providing additional supervision of students and managing equipment. PE Volunteers- We need volunteers to assist HOLA’s athletics staff with our PE classes. Will be assisting with teaching sports, exercises and supervising groups of children. Summer Night Lights Girls Basketball Assistant- We need volunteers to assist the program with game set up and clean up. Need help with games: (keeping score table, organizing, and basic supervision).
