Volunteer Opportunities for Summer 2013 Monday, June 17th to Friday, July 26th Hundreds of lives get impacted every day because of the support of our volunteers. HOLA volunteers are vital to helping us provide our youth with a life full of positive development and new opportunities. We have many opportunities this summer for you to make a difference in the Los Angeles community. If you can give as little as three hours a week, we want you!

SmartStart (Elementary School students) Volunteers are needed to support staff with academic and enrichment classes and supervise students. Must enjoy working with children and have a professional demeanor. Volunteers must be consistent with their hours.

Bridges (Middle School students) Provide additional supervision of students during programming. Help with set-up and cleanup of classrooms. Help transport students from one activity to another. Act as a mentor and role model to students. Foster a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment for HOLA youth. Must be professional with their responsibilities including being on time, focused, and respectful. Work collaboratively with the Bridges staff. Ability to be a strong role model for youth during all working hours.

PAT (High School students) Writing Tutor (4 hours/week)- Assist with writing assignments through brainstorming sessions; providing feedback on writing style, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. Transition “Bigs”- “Bigs” are 11th and 12th grade students who share high school and college preparation experiences and engage in activities incoming 9th grade students. (*Must be a present or former PAT student.) Mentors - Support high school seniors over the course of the school year. Mentors guide students through the college application, scholarship, and financial aid process, as well as support the transition to freshman year. Weekly time commitment is approximately three hours a week. Academic Tutor (4 hours/week) Provide tutoring for Math (subjects ranging from Algebra I to Calculus), English Language Arts, Chemistry, Biology and History
