Nestled amongst rolling, oak-studded hills on the outskirts of San Luis Obispo, California, is a unique little winery: Filipponi Ranch. Family-owned and operated, this boutique winery began with the vision of founder Herb Filipponi whose father, Lorenzo, immigrated to America from Switzerland in the early 1900’s with the dream of a better life! After purchasing and settling on this 300-acre ranch, Lorenzo started a dairy farm where Filipponi Ranch is located today. Aspects of the ranch from the 1900s still exist in the current ranch today. Filipponi means family. The logo used on their wine label today is the same brand that was used on the family’s beef cattle. The bell shape represents the bells the cows would wear in their Swiss village of Gordevio, with the cross representing the Swiss flag and heritage of the Filipponi Family. Lot Restrictions: Must be redeemed by November 2018. Dates to be agreed upon by all parties. 2. As longtime wine connoisseurs, they have travelled the world for decades enjoying wines from everywhere imaginable. After many years living in Sonoma County and frequently visiting the Paso Robles wine region, they fell in love with the landscape, the people, and most importantly, the wine. It was only a matter of time before they found the perfect plot of land to plant their estate vineyard. Planted in 2001, their estate vineyard, named Riven Rock, lies 6.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean and just east of the town of Cambria. Seven acres of vines grace south-facing slopes in a cool climate frequented by ocean breezes and morning fog. Lean, rocky, marine-origin soils and steep hillsides produce very small yields of extremely concentrated fruit, while the maritime influence keeps the acids fresh and vibrant. You’ll experience bright and crisp varieties such as Riesling, along with the fruit forward flavors of Pinot Noir.
