Anoka-‐Hennepin Schools Invite Families to Free Information Session: Internet Safety, Social Media & Cyberbullying ANOKA, MINN. – Families, schools and communities can do more than defend young people from potential online threats; they can work together to combat them! Families are invited to attend a free, family information night Nov. 12 to learn about social media, cyberbullying, privacy settings and how to guide young people in making good choices online. The session will also look at the websites and tools that children and teens are currently using, and learn tips and strategies to protect children in today’s digital world. The session is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Staff Development Center located in the Educational Service Center, 2727 N. Ferry St., Anoka. Roosevelt Middle School technology teacher William Powell, a member of the middle school district-‐wide digital citizenship planning team, will also share information and tips about protecting children when using text messages and video games to communicate with friends and new people they may virtually meet online. Powell has used information from this presentation to train middle school teachers across the school district in how to support students and steer them toward safe practices when using technology tools.
