“Working for Adventures Plus” video production

View the video on YouTube: https://bit.ly/WorkingforAdventuresPlus Purpose The Adventures Plus school-age care program needed support in recruiting staff, and I produced this video with Storyboard Films as a tool to help in those efforts. The program struggles to fill open positions due to the varying split schedules (before- and after-school). The positions are often ideal for school staff looking for extra hours and cash, high school or college students, young people considering a teaching a child development career or family members of our students, looking for part-time work. Where/when it is being used Our employee services team play this video at job fairs, recruitment events, and orientation sessions with new hires. We also share the video on our district and school Facebook pages via posts and advertisements to accompany job openings. Target audiences

• Potential job candidates: The video has served as a recruitment tool for potential job candidates. Our hiring team has found that the positions we need to fill are often ideal for school staff looking for extra hours and cash (before- and after-school), high school or college students, young people considering a teaching a child development career, retirees or family members of our students, looking for part-time work. • Community members: The video served as a tool in creating a sense of pride behind our program, educating community members about the program. The video was shown at numerous community events/meetings with audience members ranging from local legislators, chamber of commerce members and community advisory council members to illustrate that Anoka-Hennepin Community Education is a great, supportive place to work; and the work that is being done is strategic in helping our students succeed in school.

How it is supporting effective communication The video illustrates what it is like to work in the Adventures Plus school-age care program. Viewers not only see what happens in a work day, but it is also described in the talking points that were developed ahead of time. We developed questions and edited the interviews strategically to drive our key messages home: Adventures Plus is a great place to work: • • •

Outcomes achieved The program started the school year out with so many vacant openings (130) that office staff were required to report to school sites to fill in. Since the program started to use the video with recruitment efforts, vacant positions have been reduced by approximately 40 percent.
