Neverland Necklace

Supplies • Large wooden pendant • Enamel leaf pendant • Enamel butterfly charm • Copper plated fern pendant • Pewter wing pendant • Lampwork and electroformed acorn • 26 6mm Czech glass rondelle beads • 26 10mm English cut glass beads • 24 14mm wood beads • 48 4mm glass o-beads • 4 4mm copper beads • Copper plated flower toggle clasp • 50” 4 ply waxed linen • 3 8mm copper jump rings • 3 6mm copper jump rings • 15mm brass jump ring Necklace length: 24” long

Neverland Necklace I pulled together a collection of pendants and charms that reflected the wild forests of Neverland, I added in a acorn for a kiss and the butterfly to symbolize Tinker Bell. The large wooden pendant creates a striking focal that ties together the earthly elements of the knotted necklace.

Instructions 1. Attach an 8mm jump ring to the enamel leaf pendant and another one to the fern pendant. Attach a 6mm jump ring to each of these components: acorn bead, butterfly charm and pewter wing pendant. 2. Attach an 8mm jump ring to the bottom of the large wood pendant. 3. Open the 15mm jump ring, string on the wing pendant, fern, enamel leaf, acorn bead and butterfly charm. Add the jump ring attached to the large pendant and close the 15mm jump ring. 4. Fold the waxed linen in half, string the folded end through the front of the pendant. Open the strands behind the pendant to create a loop and pull the front two linen strands over the top of the pendant and through the loop. Pull on the two stands to tighten the knot. 5. On one strand of the linen, string a copper bead, create an overhand knot. 6. Knotting between each bead, string on a rondelle bead and an English cut glass bead. String on an o-bead, wood bead and another o-bead, create an overhand knot. Repeat this pattern 11 more times. 7. Knot between each bead: add a rondelle bead, English cut bead and copper bead. 8. Thread the end of the linen through the toggle bar loop three times. Pull the linen tightly so the clasp is near the last bead that was knotted. Tie a knot under the toggle bar.

9. Hold the last knot on top of your index finger, wrap the two strands of linen around your finger to create a large loop. String the two strands through the loop and pull tightly to create a knot. Repeat 2 -3 more times, creating a knot under the last knot until you reach the copper bead on the necklace. Trim off any left over linen as close as possible to the knot. 10. Repeat the pattern on the other side of the necklace. Resources: Wood pendant: AllegoryGallery.Etsy.com. Enamel leaf and butterfly: GardanneBeads.Etsy.com. Glass acorn: CreditRiverArtGlass.com. Ultra Violet Color Palettes

Hanging Gardens

Inspired by a recent trip to a Victorian garden conservatory, I added this bold leaf pendant to delicate copper vines and beaded chain. I wanted to create a design that layers texture and color just like those well arranged plants in the conservatory.

Supplies • Ceramic leaf pendant • 4 copper Craftsmen Vine pendants • 4 10mm English cut glass beads • 4 8mm star cut amazonite beads • 4 12mm faceted wood bead • 4 teal glass o-beads • 4 bronze glass o-beads • 13 ½” beaded chain w/lobster claw clasp • 10 6mm copper jump rings • 14 8mm copper jump rings • 12” 19 gauge steel wire Necklace Length: 20" long

When working with steel wire, wipe it first with a paper towel, then with extra fine steel wool. Seal the wire with a thin coating of Renaissance wax. Use only heavy duty pliers for steel wire.

Instructions 1. Create 4 jump ring rosettes: Close one 8mm jump ring completely. Open a second 8mm jump ring and string it through the first jump ring, close the jump ring. Open a third 8mm jump ring, string through the first and second jump rings, close the jump ring. Set aside. Repeat 3 more times. 2. Attach one jump ring rosette to the pendant with an 8mm jump ring. 3. Press the leaves of the copper vine to create a loop at the bottom of the pendant. Use a 6mm jump ring to attach the top of the vine pendant to the jump ring rosette that is on the leaf pendant. 4. Create 4 beaded links. Cut a 3” piece of steel wire, on one end of the wire create a simple loop with round nose pliers. String on an English cut bead, teal o-ring, wood bead, bronze o-ring and star cut amazonite bead. Trim the wire to ½” and create a simple loop at the end of the wire. Repeat three more times and set aside. 5. Use a 6mm jump ring to attach the beaded link to the loop you created on the vine pendant. Attach the next vine pendant to the other end of the beaded link with a 6mm jump ring. 6. Remove a 2 ½” length of the beaded chain, with a 6mm jump ring attach one end to the vine pendant below the top leaf on the vine pendant. Make sure the beaded chain lays below the beaded link. And on the top vine pendant, attach the beaded chain with a 6mm jump ring right above where the beaded link is attached to the vine pendant. 7. With a 6mm jump ring attach another beaded link to the end of the top vine pendant. Open the other end of the bead link and attach a jump ring rosette. 8. Remove a 4 ½” length of beaded chain with the clasp still attached. Attach the beaded chain to the last jump ring rosette with a 6mm jump ring. 9. Repeat the pattern on the other side of the necklace. Resources: Leaf pendant: FireflyDesignStudio.Etsy.com. Copper Craftsmen Vine pendants: Vintaj.com. Beaded chain and wood beads: Joann.com. Stronger Together Knotted Pendant

I love all the new shapes of glass seed beads and I’m always looking for ways to use them in projects that don’t require needle and thread. Waxed linen offers a pop of color and sturdiness to this knotted pendant.

Supplies • 60” 2 ply waxed linen • 10 Gemduo glass beads • 20 6/0 glass seed beads • 43 11/0 pewter color glass seed beads • 15mm jump ring • Ceramic stick bead • Cermaic word bead • Cermaic round bead • 2 brass spacers 12.75mm brass jump ring • 8” 20 gauge brass colored wire • 36” .5mm leather cord

Instructions 1. Cut four 15” lengths of waxed linen. Line them up together and fold the four stands in half. String the folded end of the strands through the jump ring. Open the strands behind the jump ring to create a loop, pull the front strands over the top of the jump ring and through the loop. Pull on the all stands to tighten the knot. This is called a larks knot. There are now 8 strands of waxed linen below the jump ring. 2. Separate 4 strands of waxed linen, string on a 6/0 seed bead the four strands, tie a knot with all four strands. Repeat on the other side with the other 4 strands. 3. Separate the strands into 4 pairs. On each double strand, string one 6/0 seed bead and knot. 4. On the two outer stands, string a 6/0 and knot, repeat with another 6/0 bead. Repeat pattern on the other side of the pendant. 5. Separate the four inner strands of waxed linen. On the two middle strands, string on one Gemduo bead. 6. On the second strands, string on three 11/0 beads beads. On middle and second strand string a Gemduo bead. Repeat on the other side. 7. On the two center strands, string a Gemduo bead in a contrasting color. On the second and third strand string another Gemduo. Repeat on the other side of the pendant. 8. On the outermost strands string three 11/0 seed beads. 9. On the middle and second strand string a Gemduo bead. Repeat on the other side of the pendant. On the two center strands string a Gemduo bead. 10. Turn the pendant around so the linen strands are at the top. Tie a knot with the two most outer strands of linen. Repeat on the other side of the pendant.

11. On the two outer stands string a 6/0 seed bead and knot. Repeat two more times. Repeat the pattern on the other side of the pendant. 12. On the third strand of linen, string three 11/0 seed beads and tie a knot with the middle strand of linen. Repeat pattern on other side. On the two innermost strands string a 6/0 seed bead, knot. Repeat on the other side of the pendant. 13. On the left side, on all four strands string a 6/0 seed bead, knot together all four strands of linen together. Repeat on the right side of the pendant. 14. Separate the two middle strands, string a Gemduo in the contrasting color on both strands. Tie both strands in a knot under the bead. 15. On the two outer strands, string three 11/0 seed beads on each strand and knot them together. 16. On the two centermost strands string one 11/0 seed seed. On both of the third strands string three 11/0 beads. Knot all four of these strands together. Trim the ends of the waxed linen to 1”long. To finish the necklace create a messy wrapped loop at the bottom of the 20 gauge wire. String on the stick bead, spacer, word bead, spacer and round ceramic bead. Create a messy wrap at the top of the round bead. Attach this beaded link to the 15mm jump ring on the knotted pendant. Attach a 12.75mm jump ring to the top of the beaded link. String leather cord through the jump ring to create a larks knot. Tie the end of the leather to the desired length or created adjustable knots.
