KIDS BOOKS
Hello my name is Yasmin. I live in Kings Heath, Birmingham.
I grew up in Pakistan in a really lovely village called Azad Kashmir. My whole family still live there.
I remember playing in a big massive field with the neighbours’ children.
I miss my childhood. I have fond memories of being in Pakistan with my sister, brother, mum and dad.
When I was 18 years old I moved to England to get married. It was a total shock!
When I arrived in England, I could only speak Urdu, and needed to learn the English language. I did a GCSE at college with my friend, and picked it up ‘just like that’.
In Pakistan we lived in a ten bedroom house - it was like a mansion! I came here to a two bedroom house! Our three rooms would make one room back at home! My sister told me you have to adjust here because you are married now. I ran around crying, “I can’t live here! I’m going back! I miss my mum. I miss my home!”
It’s been ten years since I left and I have not been back. I’m enjoying life more than anything. I go out everywhere, shopping, enjoying myself, talking and meeting my friends.
It’s a really nice area. It doesn’t matter if you have a big house as long as people are nice to you.
