International Conference Longbridge Birmingham UK 24 October 2014

Connect with innovative keynote speakers exploring urban projects

Architecture Technology Innovation Regeneration Artistic Intervention Strategic Policy Placemaking Lighting

Tran si tion Conference Tran-si-tion International Conference will provide a key platform to highlight best practice within regeneration schemes, urban design, strategic planning, placemaking and art within a social urban context. The conference has been developed in response to the transitional complexity that Longbridge has experienced and is currently facing as it regenerates. For nearly a century the area was dominated physically, socially, economically and visually by one of the largest car factories in the world until its devastating collapse in 2005. The Longbridge story is echoed across the world, with numerous cities and communities facing challenging economic and sector shifts, redevelopments, regeneration and master planning. Tran-si-tion will provide an exciting showcase of innovative keynote speakers sharing their vision, approach and experience within an array of diverse urban projects through strategic planning, urban design, architecture, policy, technology innovation, large scale artistic interventions, placemaking, lighting and regeneration.

Longbridge Light Festival WERK developed Tran-si-tion International One-Day Conference to coincide with Longbridge Light Festival. The conference has been made possible through support from Birmingham City University, Bournville College and Birmingham City Council. Longbridge Light Festival’s wider programme will feature multiple urban light and art installations in response to the theme “Back to the Future” created by Longbridge Public Art Project (LPAP) artists and curators Elizabeth Rowe and Chris Poolman. Tran-si-tion and Longbridge Light Festival were conceived by WERK as part of Longbridge Public Art Project (LPAP) on behalf of Bournville College. LPAP aims to support the regeneration and future of Longbridge, whilst recognising its significant past. We are delighted to have engaged some of the best National and International speakers at Tran-si-tion, Longbridge 2014. This is the start of an ongoing conversation, we hope that you can join us.
