Quiet Respected Calming Those are the words to Describe this place The only sound that can be Heard is the small Ripples in the water In front of you Occasionally you will hear a bird call Or two, but it Soon stops, leaving You in the quiet The blue of the water Mesmerizes you as you stare Stare at the creatures That lay in the deep, Swimming with its mysteries You stand on a dock The one that seems like its Always been there No matter the weather Always surrounded by the trees You've climbed for years Usually places this quiet Are unnerving But this place isn't -It's peaceful, Homey and comforting
The Pond
Sacred Place Kris Krastins ‘23
This a sacred place. Walk in and see the light filtering through stained glass into rainbows. The podium gives power, overlooking the whole room. All the doors silence any talking, letting only footsteps make themselves known. Step up now, to the stage. Notice the organ, looking like it has played melodies for countless gods of every religion. This a sacred place.

HEBRON ACADEMY MIDDLE SCHOOL • 2016 - 2017 The Dirt Bike Surprise Ethan Frumiento ‘22
One day while I was mowing the lawn, my dad walked up to me and said, “There is a surprise down at the barn.” So I rode down to the barn on the tractor, and found that I was not the only person in my family down there. At the time I had no idea what the surprise could be. My dad opened the door, and there was a 2012, shiny, blue, white and black Yamaha dirt bike, just standing there! I had been saving up money from mowing the lawn for a couple of years and knew my father was looking for a dirtbike for me, but it was the last thing on my mind that day. I was too busy mowing the lawn and thinking about getting it done. My dad said, “You have to go finish your reading, and then we can go and buy you a helmet.” I went up to my room and read a chapter of The Sea of Trolls. Then we went to the the Yamaha store to buy a helmet. My dad bought one as well so he could ride the dirt bike too. We headed home from the store with our helmets, and I could finally try out my new Yamaha. Riding my dirt bike was a little wobbly at first, and I was a little scared, but I got better at it. Before long I started to go a little faster. After riding for about two hours in my yard, I decided to go inside. For the next several weeks I would go outside to ride about every day, getting better and better at it. About a month later, my dad bought a second dirt bike so we could ride together. Soon we are going to ride on trails in the woods.
A Vehicle Composed Of Two Wheels, Held In A Frame, One Behind The Other Jasper Curtis ‘22
On my fifth birthday, I was presented with many awesome gifts, most of them being legos, but the best present I received that day was the gift Uncle Bill brought me. He pulled into my driveway and unloaded a red vehicle composed of two wheels, held in a frame, one behind the other, propelled by pedals and steered with handlebars attached to the front wheel. I had never ridden a bike without training wheels, so I was pretty scared, and Uncle Bill, knowing how scared I was, helped me with my struggle of learning to ride a bike. I had difficulty with the pedaling motion, mainly because my feet were barely able to touch the pedals, to the point that I would have fallen the minute Uncle Bill let go of the back of my bike. Fun Fact: Uncle Bill is really bad at reading minds, so he decided to let go. Defeat filled my entire body when I collided with the puddle in my driveway. After half an hour of cleaning my wounds and my pride, I decided to have another go at riding my bike. After drying my bike, and rebuilding my confidence, I was ready to try again. I made my dad stabilize me this time, since Uncle Bill lost his right to help me. After twenty minutes of riding around the driveway, with my dad next to me, I finally got used to the pedaling. So my dad let go... and I started to head for the same puddle. I started to sweat, but I kept pedaling. I wanted to stop, but I kept pedaling. I closed my eyes, but I kept pedaling. I knew my impending doom, but I kept pedaling. After going through the puddle, I lifted my arms and let out my uproarious victory cry… Then fell over. At least I could ride a bike.

Clouds
Dan Godomsky ’22 Clouds look like really massive fluffy pillows. I have always wanted to go through one. That would be breathtaking, to glide through a cloud like an eagle. Clouds are interesting because there are so many types. In school I learned about cirrus, stratus and normal clouds, my favorite, which are called cumulus,. I know clouds are made up of tiny water droplets and ice crystals. Shooting through one in person would be unbelievable. Just sit for a second and imagine going through the white blob of air. When I was little, I thought that you could actually sit on a cloud, and that it would be the most comfortable thing in the world.
Afraid
Lillybeth Randall ‘22 Have you ever been bullied, or even been a bully yourself? I have and it really tore down my self esteem. The thing is that you never think that it will happen until it does, and you don’t know what to do. You don’t even realize it’s bullying. And then it hits you. The words hit you. Like knives stabbing you every time someone calls you a name or says a snarky remark. You grow weak, with blood rushing to your head like a train speeding out of the station. Your first instinct is to say something rude back, but you don’t want to embarrass yourself. So you sit there. You wonder why no one stood up for you and told the bully to back off, and then you realize that you probably wouldn’t say anything either. You don’t blame anyone but yourself, even if you did nothing. It’s hard to understand why or how someone can be mean to you without you doing anything wrong, and even if you did, it’s not okay for them to bully you. At some point
you just have to cry. You can barely breathe because you feel so hurt, and at that point it’s impossible to not tell anyone because you want it all to just end. You’re afraid that you’ll be judged if you tell someone with power because they’ll think you’re overreacting. You want your bully to be in so much trouble for the hurt they caused that they will never mess with you ever again. You imagine that you finally tell someone and all of the bullying is over. You feel so relieved and happy because you’re no longer worthless. Everyone else who was bullied, but was afraid to say something would now look up to you. But, you made that all up in your head; your bully is still your bully, and they haven’t gotten in trouble. You’re still too scared to say anything because you believe your entire life will end if you do. * Author’s Note: Just a heads up, the bullying was at my old school and it is all over now. Hebron is a wonderful place and I highly doubt that anyone would be a bully here. :)

HEBRON ACADEMY MIDDLE SCHOOL • 2016 - 2017 Skiing
Emma Newell ‘22 “When you fall, get right back up. Just keep going, keep pushing it.” That is a quote by Lindsey Vonn, my all time favorite skier. That quote runs through my head, over and over again as I am flying down the giant slalom course, hoping that one day I’ll be just like Lindsey Vonn. “Bibs one through ten, come line up!” the tall man with the clipboard yells to all of us as we sit at the top of the course. I was bib number eight. My heart was beating out of my chest; it was my first race ever. I was so excited, but at the same time I was so nervous. My coach always told me I carry a lot of speed and I have to go slow on this course because of the headwall. The next thing I knew I was in the starting gate. Every sound around me became blurred until it was completely silent. The only thing I heard was three...two...one...GO!! I skated at hard as I could until I got to the first gate. I didn’t exactly listen to what my coach had said, and I was so focused on getting to the end of the course without dying that I fell on the fourth gate right at the very steep headwall. For the speed I had, I was leaning too far back, lost control and went off the course. I got right back up remembering Lindsey Vonn’s quote. I finished the
30
course but was discouraged. I didn’t want to go for my second run; I didn’t think I could do it. When they called bibs one through ten again, I knew I needed to do my second run and prove to myself I could do it. I got up to the starting gate once again, this time repeating in my head “When you fall, get right back up. Just keep going, keep pushing it.” Again, everything went silent and this time I very faintly heard three… two… one… GO! I threw my body out of the gate, determined to finish this course successfully. I made it past the fourth gate and that's when I knew that I just have to give everything I’ve got. I kept going, still a little unsure if I could finish the race, scared that I might fall again. I pushed myself until I crossed over the finish line. As my skis crossed the line, my heart started to race again. A smile that went from one ear to the other appeared on my face. “Emma Newell from Hebron Academy. Time: 49.32 seconds,” said a lady’s voice over the microphone. I immediately called my parents and told them what I had accomplished! 49.32 seconds is not my best time, but that was the race that inspired me to keep doing my best no matter what! When I ski, I feel free, like nothing can get in my way. I ski to have a good time, but I also ski because it brings out the best in me.

morning. I got ready for school and rushed to the bus. I sat down next to Lizzie and we started Olivia Caggiano ‘22 talking. Eventually I let her know about the move One sunny Sunday morning I was walking and the smile dropped from her face. I told all down the stairs from my bedroom to the kitchen, my friends, and by the end of the day everyone I spoke to became gloomy. and I peered out the window. Looking outside, The next thing I knew, it was the last I saw a big white sign with red writing that read “For Sale” on our lawn. I slowly walked over to my day of school and the last time I would see all my friends from New Hampshire. I had to say parents and asked them why our house was for goodbye. By the end of the day, tears were sale, and that is when I found out my dad got a streaming down my face. As I walked out of new job and we were moving. To our lake house in Maine. One hour and thirty minutes away from the front of the school building, I received a text from my mom, “You are going on the bus all my friends! The next day I walked out of my house to to Lizzie's party.” My face lit up! I was so happy after hanging out with my friends that I forgot all the bus, with my head hanging low, to join my about moving for the rest of the evening. friends. They were smiling, and that made me Moving was very rough for me, but after smile too. My best friend Lizzie asked me, “Are all the troubles, everything was okay. HEBRON ACADEMY MIDDLE SCHOOL • 2016 - 2017 Rainy Day
Savannah Boucher ‘21 I am hushed and polite Unlike the others, That make me feel Like I have no price. All I hear is people talk, Waiting for the rain to drop, Now the wind is growing stronger, And hurriedly the people leave. It’s quiet now, except the cars, That quickly pass me in a rush. Here comes the rain, So lovely it seems, Now my petals feel it too, Making me both tall and stout, Oh, this feels so good, Delicious rain.
Beautiful Tower Cora Younk ‘21
Up here I have no fear. For I am the king and the small people are my subjects. I can rule the world from the top of this tower. Every hour the clock dings loudly, But I can put up with it. For there is no greater feeling than being up here. The finest part is that at night: The stars are so sparkly. I’m proud to be on this tower. Being the king, As hard as it may be, Is the greatest feeling there is. Up here I have no fear.

I am so small, I’m almost nothing I lie low, close to the earth Brushing the soil With my delicate leaves Saying forget me, Forget me. Soles push me down Metal cuts me up Rubber flattens me out I may lie low But forget me forget-me-not.
