Robin Hadley and her late husband John Hadley hold a special place in The Heckscher Museum’s history. For nine years, John Hadley provided visionary, insightful, and generous leadership as Chair of the Board of Trustees. Robin carries forward this exemplary spirit and the belief that philanthropy inspires others to achieve. Champions of The Heckscher Museum and its far reaching value to the residents of Long Island, Robin and John received the Outstanding Philanthropists Award in 1994 from the Long Island Chapter of the National Society of Fundraising Executives.
Artists Sandra Benny and Richard Vaux have shared a “studio compound” in Lloyd Neck since 1983. Meeting as graduate students at Northern Illinois University, Sandra and Richard were married in 1969 beginning their professional artist careers on Long Island. They interpret the natural world through original and distinctive styles, and their art work has been exhibited throughout the United States and abroad. Richard is a Professor Emeritus at Adelphi University where he teaches painting and drawing. Sandra is a retired Senior Adjunct Professor of Drawing and Design, LIU Post.

The Heckscher Museum of Art The Heckscher Museum of Art was founded in 1920 through the philanthropy of August Heckscher. It is an American Alliance of Museums accredited institution, one of only 800 nationwide. The Museum has a permanent collection of more than 2,500 works of art spanning five centuries from the early 16th century to the present. Throughout the year, new exhibitions are presented, drawn from the Permanent Collection and from works on loan from museums and private collectors. Education programs annually engage over 7,000 school children from Nassau and Suffolk Counties with multidisciplinary learning experiences that enhance the New York State Learning Standards. The Museum has an active schedule of public programs that reach families, adults, and senior citizens. Many of these programs are offered free to the public. Through exhibitions and related educational programs, the Museum seeks to provide inspiring and transformative experiences to encourage a broader understanding of the past and present, and enrich the quality of life for the individuals it serves.
