You’ve seen the stickers slapped up around skate parks and hiding on the back of signs as you drive past and you’ve thought ‘What the fuck is Phrunt’? Well Phrunt is back! the iconic skate clothing brand which dominated the Gold Coast and Brisbane in the 90’s has hit the shelves again. Steveo and the boys are hard at work getting styles together. Check out the website www.phrunt.net for all the new news and follow them on instagram @phrunt. Message the boys or get down to Darkside skateboards to pick up some Phrunt gear.

Canon EOS Iphone app - Remote Camera Controller www.canon.com.au

Wanna get some awesome footage but don’t have a cameraman? The Solo Shot uses a tracking device that you wear on your arm to monitor where you are, always keeping you in focus anywhere within a 30ft to 2000ft distance. It can pan, tilt and zoom and it can pan at 80º/ second, always keeping you in frame. It also allows for multiple controllers to the one camera, multiple cameras from the one controller or multiple cameras from multiple controllers. The scope is endless, plus there are more developments coming. This IS the future of filmmaking.

Reddies is an energy suppliment that is lightweight, strong and easier to carry around than a can of fizzy. What you get is a packet of five paper-thin strips that dissolve in your mouth, so it’s very fast acting. It’s sugar free, yet surprisingly sweet, and cheaper per serve than energy drinks. The active ingredient is caffeine, so for a very quick buzz, Reddies are a hit.

Electric

Gnartopia expeditions is your gateway to explore the world with your board. G.E was created 2 years ago out of a need to cater for people wanting to go skate with others in areas where they had not been before, allowing for riders to experience new terrain with the guidance of seasoned riders. They are a fun filled group who caters for everyone’s needs and wants, so depending on the group it could be all about speed and big hills, or it could be a day of freeriding looking for all the features that can be found around town. This allows for groms to go to terrain they would have never been able to reach before and seasoned riders to catch up.

Ruapehu Gravity Festival NZ Event Words | Joseph Karchemny

What's the one thing all dh/freeride skaters dream of? For most, it’s having the chance to mob an epic closed road with mates both new and old. For the New Zealand scene this dream became reality at the first and hopefully annual, Ruapehu Gravity festival on Mt Ruapehu. Rider | Gabe Gwynne Photo | Matt Kienzle

Not only was it a first for NZ, but the first time a gravity sports event has been held on a world heritage site. The Bruce Road is one of the country's most beautiful settings to skate. With average speeds around 65 kph and top speeds above 85 kph, it's 5.3kms of cat-eye free, nearly pristine black top, that begins above the tree line and drops down over what looks like the lunar surface before working down through the grasses and then to the trees. For the 37 skaters, both men and women age 16 to 38 from New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Brazil the stoke was overwhelming. One of the many hurdles for the festival in the lead up to organization was the safety. As hay bales weren't able to be used because Mt Ruapehu is a world heritage site as well as being protected by DOC (Department of Conservation) we needed to find a substitute for hay, since hay could and would have affected the fragile and protected ecosystem. The result ‌ bulk bag/wool bags filled with empty plastic bottles collected from the recycling depot at the top of the road. Fortunately these bags of empty bottles went untested by the skateboard participants of the event. The drift trikes which had the road from Saturday noon until Sunday arvo put the bags to the test on a few occasions with excellent results. For a few years now Ruapehu has been a destination for skaters from around the globe, but they have always had to skate the road with the possibility of oncoming vehicles. So for a day and a half, March 7th & 8th it was all about straight bombing. And to add more fuel to the stoke fire the event is applying for a 10 year lease with rumblings of IDF involvement in 2015, meaning that fire will burn for a long time to come. So keep your eyes on the 2015 events calendar, because you might want to start looking at flights to NZ!!! A massive thanks goes out to the team at Mt Ruapehu for making this happen and also to everyone who came out and ripped hard! Mad Mobs Top Photo | Scott Hayes Bottom Photo | Racheal London
