Thank you for having interest in my portfolio. This portfolio was created to show various understanding of Urban Planning and Urban Design that displays numerous computer skills and creativity. I am currently working as an Economic Development OfďŹ cer at Municipality of French River. My role is to improve community physical view and to initiate Community Improvement Plan (CIP) that can help businesses of the municipality to revive. Although I have great understanding and knowledge of various planning principals and ďŹ elds, my main interest relies on Urban Design aspect of Planning. I believe visual outcome of Planning can truly affect community and public how they live and work in their life. This portfolio is meant to be concise and show my skills and knowledge of different planning tools when it comes to Urban Design. If you would like to further discuss about my contribution to you, please feel free to send me an email at heesuk.yi@gmail.com Regards, Heesuk Abigail Lee

The Heart of Our Cities: Ontario's Downtown Malls and Their Transformations (2013) Exhibited in Urbanspace Gallery, located in downtown Toronto, from November 6, 2012 to January 6 2013. Started the project from studying mid-city downtown malls and their transformation into Hypermall, Demall, Hive, and Mallover. Also, created numerous oor plans using AutoCAD and Illustrator to study inside of malls. For the exhibition, to help understanding of guests built physical models and rendered images.

Pedestrian Streets (2012) This research was conducted to better define types and usages of “pedestrian streets” around the world. For this particular research, 10 different pedestrian streets were examined for their usage and formation. Three types that were concluded in the research was 1. Pedestrian Only Streets, 2. Pedestrian Precincts, and 3. Pedestrian Boulevards. You can view the full project on following website: http://issuu.com/heesuk/docs/pedestrianstreets On this page: Calle Florida in Buenos Aires Top Right: Map of Calle Florida, and its pedestrian street marked in red Bottom: Pedestrian Street Usage Analysis Left: View of Calle Florida

ArcGIS In ArcGIS section, I wanted to show my knowledge and skills of GIS. I chose two projects to show: GIS ability: Terrain Analysis and Creation of Design Site Map Using ArcGIS and Illustrator. These projects show my understanding of features of ArcGIS and use of ArcGIS in real world.

Creation of Design Site Map Using ArcGIS and Illustrator (2012-2013)

Carefully observing Land-Use, contour, street network, building footprint, and OfďŹ cial Plan, created design site maps using ArcGIS. Gathered historic air photos of the design site, and merged photos to get a complete idea of historic view of the study site. Left Top: Historic air photo (2013) Right: Design site maps created using ArcGIS and Illustrator (2012-2013)

Community Design Plan For Community Design Plan, I included three projects: Senior Design Project: District 65, Junior Design Project: MillGrove and Study of Cross Section and Building Facades. Even though these were group projects, I have decided to only included images and parts that I was responsible. I believe this will emphasize skills of different programs and my understanding of planning principals.

Senior Design Project: District 65 (2013)

District 65 was developed to reflect site’s historic commercial use, which was first established in 1965. Our redevelopment concept revolves around the creation of several distinct districts that facilitate an array of experiences throughout the precinct. Left Top: Change in air view retrieved from ArcGIS (2013) Left Bottom: SketchUp and Photoshop used for rendered view of development (2013) Right: Inspirational images for the development (2013) My Responsibilities: Shadow Analysis, Base Site Plan, Rendering, Panel Design, Gathering Precedent images, and Cross Sections

Senior Design Project: District 65 (2013)

The vision of this project was “To intensify within the Fairview Park commercial precinct while preserving the historic function of the area as the regional mall destination, and preparing for a high-growth scenario through the establishment of an interconnected multi-modal transportation network, mixed land uses supportive of aging-in-place communities, and a distinct community identity created via a unique sense of place. Left Top: Shadow analysis with SketchUp (2013) Left Bottom: Land-use, parking plan, LRT circulation, local bus circulation diagram with Illustrator (2013) Right: Site Plan (2011)
