nly Built 4 Cuban Linx..., commonly known as The Purple Tape, is a concept album that chronicles the tale of two gangsters who are a part of a made-up crime syndicate called the “Wu-Gambinos.” The gangsters are portrayed by Raekwon and Ghostface Killah. The record is famous for its vivid visuals, dramatic narrative, and sophisticated language. The album’s smash single, “Ice Cream,” has an unforgettable melody by Method Man, a beautiful R&B sample, and verses by Ghostface Killah and Cappadonna. Raekwon’s position as one of the key figures in the Wu-Tang Clan was further cemented by the song’s commercial success. Another outstanding tune is “Verbal Intercourse,” which has a guest verse from Nas and a soulful sample that goes well with the song’s reflective lyrics.

Raekwon was one of the original members of the Wu-Tang Clan, the renowned rap group that was founded in the early 1990s. He was born Corey Woods on Staten Island, New York. The Wu-Tang Clan’s debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), from 1993, is regarded as a masterpiece as well as being the group’s commercial and artistic breakthrough. The first wave of Wu-Tang members started releasing solo albums after the group’s first album, with Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... being one of the most eagerly awaited.
