Formerly Swarovski’s vice president, innovation consumer goods, Thomas has expanded and applied his expert knowledge of materials and their functionality to create Cayoo, his own brand three years in the making which features collections of pioneering waterproof fashion jewellery. Even more arresting than the brand’s near-immediate entry into a variety of retail forms are the Cayoo products themselves. This is jewellery that eschews metal: Swarovski Elements are set in gleaming plexiglass and held, as if floating, for fully waterproof and durable sparkle. “Stones falling out is one of the biggest problems in fashion jewellery – and the fact that pieces aren’t waterproof.

I thought ‘what can I bring to the market? How can I solve this problem?’” Thomas Prantl outlines. And the Cayoo brand was born. The design is inspired by the smooth, organic shapes of round pebbles – ‘cayoo’ mimics ‘caillou’, French for pebble. The Swiss company is based in Geneva, design and manufacturing of the lovingly finished products is entirely made in Europe. The products are made with Swarovski Elements and Cubic Zirconia and next to being waterproof, they are also allergen free and UV-resistant. Cayoo offers today a variety of retail packages presenting changing seasonal colour themes. The products come in sizes S,M and L to meet customer expectations. Thomas has already developed his own branded open-sell concept, enabling customers to fully engage with the tactile products prior to purchase. The unit itself is smooth and polished, continuing the brand message of pared back brilliance. “We also use see-through packaging, which is quite unique,” he adds.
