DISCOVER THE PLUG & PLAY HVAC SYSTEM Wheter it be the icy fjords in Norway, or the sunshine shores of the Caribbean, having a suitable indoor climate is a must in the world of luxury on vessels. Heinen & Hopman introduces a line of HVAC products especially for vessels up to 45 meters.
REDUCED ENERGY CONSUMPTION
COST SAVINGS
The Plug & Play system focuses on: • Reduced energy consumption • Cost savings • Safe & healthy indoor climate
SAFE & HEALTHY INDOOR CLIMATE
The products in this range can be applied to multiple ship types ranging from yachts to trawlers and tugboats. The philosophy is to provide ready-to-use machines that only need to be connected to the onboard power panel and chilled water pipes on board. Thanks to this philosophy, no additional cables or valves are required as everything is integrated inside the units. The P&P system is a product line that includes: • Fan coil units • Air handling units • Engine room ventilation • Reverse cycle chiller units • Control system Yards and crew alike benefit from the P&P system, starting from a new concept of machinery that ensures smaller service spaces, user-friendly application and fast component installation and replacement. Fully remote worldwide assistance is available from Heinen & Hopman’s offices via a smart cloud system which monitors and controls every unit parameter. All necessary HVAC system building instructions are ready to use and our new technical library can be consulted anytime. In this dedicated cloud you will find all the required information to integrate the HVAC with electrical and hydraulic systems, including more than 300 drawings. Inside the library, interior designers can find layouts and arrangements to interface the HVAC system with interiors, from supply plenum dimensions to noise requirements to various examples of how units are allocated inside furniture classified by space class. All P&P units have been designed using the latest technologies. Brushless EC motors installed on fan coils, air handling units and engine room fans are designed and manufactured according to IEC-60034 and the related IE-2 regulation (high efficiency). This future-proofs the P&P system for the time when these requirements will also be a ‘must’ in the yachting industry.
4
REDUCED ENERGY CONSUMPTION Unlike other HVAC systems which rely heavily on the ship’s electric load, the Plug & Play HVAC system is designed to be energy-efficient, cutting the energy consumption by more than 30%. Other benefits include smaller generators, lower CO2 emissions and a lighter ecological footprint. Brushles EC motors This low resistance motor is highly efficient. As well as reducing energy consumption it also attenuates noise and vibration. The system allows fans to run on variable speeds for maximum energy efficiency. Measurable quality Each unit is monitored in real time via our web application exclusively designed for the P&P system. Energy consumption is considerably reduced due to the new design and technology applications, leading to further cost efficiencies. Direct seawater cooling Using the free energy that is available in seawater, direct seawater cooling is a perfect fit in winter and shoulder seasons when the water is relatively cool and cold demand is not yet as great as in the summer. Discover the full potential seawater has to offer.
COST SAVINGS These eco-friendly solutions have a positive effect on the economics of sailing, but this goes hand-in-hand with cutting cost. Reducing CO2 emissions and saving on fuel consumption are both parts of the same medal. Every gallon of diesel not needed because the system is so energy efficient is a gallon saved in costs. Compact design All Plug & Play components are designed to ensure small dimensions in combination with high efficiency. The compact design makes it suitable for even the smallest spaces and reduces the total weight of the HVAC installation, which also contributes to minimising fuel consumption. Smart monitoring system The smart monitoring system gives exact data regarding how much energy the HVAC system is consuming. Real-time data on energy consumption gives you full control and the ability to pinpoint cabins and spaces showing signs of unnecessary energy consumption. Quickly available spare parts Spare parts are easily purchased by means of P&P e-commerce and directly delivered on board all over the world. Together with the high quality of parts, this lowers the necessity to have lots of spare parts in stock, reducing weight and fuel consumption.

SAFE & HEALTHY INDOOR CLIMATE The wellbeing of passengers and crew is top priority in all cases and this is reflected in the design of the P&P system. Every possible measure is taken to ensure a fresh and healthy environment, reduce the risk of infection and stop the spread of diseases. UV-C purifying system A UV-C light bulb uses ultraviolet energy to disable viral, bacterial and fungal organisms. A bombardment of highly energetic particles damages the organisms’ DNA so that they no longer reproduce. And an organism that cannot reproduce is no longer capable of causing diseases. Filtering system The easily cleanable and removable G4 filters take out sand, dust and pollen. The filter is fixed to the air handling unit skid by means of cleads, facilitating ordinary maintenance operations normally carried out by the crew. CO2-sensors A sensor system measures the CO2 percentage, ensuring that it does not come above a pre-set threshold. All rooms and cabins always have the right amount of fresh outside air, therefore, giving a healthy environment while reducing any energy waste.
ENERGY SAVINGS UP TO 30% COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL SYSTEMS
In addition to the benefits of lowering high indirect costs during construction and promising easy integration, userfriendliness, the Plug & Play product range saves energy compared to a traditional HVAC system. Thanks to the highly efficient brushless EC motors, the energy consumption is significantly reduced. Below is a situation with a 40 meter yacht. NOTE: INSULATION The air conditions are highly dependent on the quality of the duct installation. Thermal insulation is one of the most cost-effective improvements to comfort and efficiency that can be made, because the best way to beat the heat (or the cold) is to prevent it from ever getting in. Thermal insulation also tends to muffle audible noise. IMPORTANT: Insulation always requires a vapor barrier to effectively prevent condensation. This means that the outer surface of the insulation must be impermeable to water vapor. So it is important to maintain an airtight vapor barrier around the insulation. The location of the vapor barrier is also crucial. The insulation must be between the vapor barrier and the cold surface.

REVERSE CYCLE BLDC CHILLERS Each chiller module is factory tested and filled with R-410A. Multiple module skids have been developed and designed for quick and easy module replacement. Multiple connectors and multi cables are supplied along with the unit and control panel, making electrical and hydraulic connection on board simple and fast. The compact design and threaded frames allow the unit to be installed directly with nuts and bolts attached to the ship’s foundation. If multiple modules of vertical design are required, a skid plug-in is available upon request. Modules can be assembled in one skid or supplied in separate modules to meet the most demanding space requirements on board. Brushless DC technology ensures maximum overall system efficiency. By varying the compressor speed from 10% to 100% of nominal speed, BLDC chillers always minimize power consumption and maximize onboard comfort, avoiding typical chilled water temperature fluctuations. Available configurations • Speed control on a single module from 10% to 100% of the total available cooling capacity • Maximum efficiency • Maximum comfort level in every room served • One chilled water and one seawater pump • Two chilled water and seawater pumps (one system on standby) • One central switchboard or split with start board for remote pumps • KNX network interface • General alarm contact • Remote start/stop and capacitance reduction contacts Advantages of a BLDC chiller • Variable speed of the chiller gives maximum comfort compared to a normal on/off chiller by close to 0 fluctuation of the cooling water temperature • With a BLDC chiller the efficiency of the compressor is more and more compared to a normal AC compressor (same principle as a Danfoss Turbocor) • With a BLDC chiller the capacity control is from 10% to 100% of the available cooling capacity • With a BLDC chiller the current start up is reduced to 0...! With this solution we have no start peaks at all. • A perfect integration with battery drive or small electric systems Reverse cycle BLDC chillers come with a control panel, pump switches and an optional compressor soft start. CENTRALIZED EXHAUST UNITS - EC TYPE HIGH PRESSURE Plug & play centralized EC exhaust units come complete with super quiet, highly efficient EC fans. Extreme versions allow for high airflow capacities with the minimum available space to allocate the fan. On the other hand, special care should be taken to place this fan on board because of the noise emission caused by high capacities and tight spaces. Brushless technology and the latest aerodynamic design make the P&P exhaust unit one of the most efficient units available on the market. The final operating speed is adjusted during commissioning to ensure that the design airflows are respected. The centralized EC exhaust units are controlled directly from our fresh air control system*, while stand-alone installations require a control potentiometer. *Power to be supplied by the ship’s power system, controlled by the fresh air control system - only if purchased in combination.
