to go out and be useful again’. The diagram shows all the contributors to Food Club. Aldi donates food that would be thrown out as it’s coming up to it’s use by date (helping combat climate change as well as local people). At Christmas a local firm gave £300. We distributed vouchers for the butchers, bakers, greengrocers and sweetshop - supporting local businesses. Booths have a trolley for donations which is collected weekly and there’s a box outside the hall which is emptied daily. Surplus food we have is collected by a school in a neighbouring town and the pupils take it to their food bank which helps teach the next generation about food poverty. It’s a real coming together of community and beyond - with the church and Christ at the centre!

Big Green Week

This was the largest event for climate and nature ever seen in the UK. Thousands of events celebrated how communities are taking action to tackle climate change and protect green spaces and encouraged others to get involved too. Fairtrade’s unique, two-pronged approach helps farmers become more resilient to climate change, whilst at the same time giving consumers, retailers, and traders the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint. Garstang Fairtrade ran several events during the Big Green Week including: • Conducting five local primary school assemblies • Carrying out our Climate Change Survey

Co-op

We would like to thank the Co-op, and in particular Mark Jarnell (Member Pioneer), for supporting Garstang Fairtrade and especially for sponsoring our new display boards. This will enable us to continue to promote Fairtrade at future events.

Meetings

We have now commenced our regular meetings and have had our AGM. Whilst Zoom has been a lifeline for us nothing beats a face-to-face meeting. Outcomes from these meetings will be posted on our Facebook page.

Garstang Town Council

The town council has appointed Councillor Ethan Lees to be their Fairtrade Representative. We hope that he will help promote Fairtrade in Garstang and within the town council.

The Mustard Seed & Wesley’s Coffee Lounge
