CATTERALL IN BLOOM
Now that autumn is here, we are busy putting the gardens to bed ready for the winter months ahead and generally tidying up the summer containers while we await the North West in Bloom results in November. The Bloom team has agreed with the parish council to adopt all the flower beds within the Catterall Playing Fields, replanting and refreshing where needed. This is our new winter project. If you can spare just one hour to help, it would be much appreciated. The tasks include pruning, bulb planting, weeding, digging, mulching, in fact, anything you feel able to do. We meet on Tuesday mornings only, starting at 10:00am at Catterall Village Hall car park. However, we were disappointed to see that some people who have been tidying up have also dumped green waste at the corner of the playing field, next to the entrance gate. It is very kind of people to think they are helping us but this is our compost and wildlife area, carefully managed and looked after by the Bloom team. We worked hard to clear this area, building a beetle hotel, a woodpile for hedgehogs and a space for chipped wood. Do not dump green waste or branches here please! Fly tipping is an offence. The local tip is now open and happy to take your green waste and branches free of charge. Thank you to everyone who said how lovely Catterall looked this summer. The Bloom Team enjoyed reading your positive and encouraging comments on social media and also hearing the kind words spoken by passers-by. We love being part of the community, helping Catterall be a great place to live, so why not join in the fun? We are a happy little group, plus you get to wear a fancy hi-vis vest!
