GARSTANG MEMORY CAFÉ

The memory café provides regular ‘drop in’ meetings designed to give some support to those who are experiencing dementia symptoms, plus also help and advice for their carers and partners. All of these sessions take place in a very safe, sociable and supportive environment. The group meets on the first Monday (2:00pm to 4:00pm) and the third Wednesday (10:00am to noon ) of each month in the Free Methodist Church hall with refreshments being provided free of charge. In Aug we enjoyed a memorable canal cruise on the ‘Jungle Queen’ and a fish and chip lunch. The weather was kind to us with the sun shining so we could get out to admire the scenery and all agreed that the trip was a huge success. Also in August there was a talk and discussion on the various confectionery items from the past and this was followed by several light hearted activities or quizzes relating to sweets and chocolate. The memory garden area behind the library has continued to progress well and should provide a welcome shaded spot for both rest and quiet reflection. The raised beds and tubs have been filled by the Garstang in Bloom team and were visited recently by the judges on their regular local assessment visit. Some of the seating areas that will be available are in place already but with more planned in the colours chosen by our group.
