How we'll get there
WELCOME
Our strategy is for everyone we serve in the county of Devon, and beyond. Our strategy is for you, your family, friends, colleagues and your community. These are challenging yet exciting times, and our strategy is in place to respond to and emerge out of these times with resilience and innovation. Here we set out our refreshed Vision, Mission and Values, as well as our aims and how we plan to realise them. Our plans are ambitious, but by working together and with your support we can continue to make a real difference to all the lives we touch.
Heléna Holt, CEOWHO WE ARE
Accidents and illness happen, and when they do our patients, whatever their age, circumstance or location, whether in a city, on the moors or on our shores, need specialist treatment, fast.
In 2022 alone we responded to 1,828 missions. The speed with which our doctors and paramedics with their life-saving equipment, can reach a patient, identify their time-critical needs and provide their specialist life-saving interventions to slow, halt or even reverse the effects of a life-threatening condition, is crucial in helping to achieve a successful outcome.
Our work is made possible by our incredible staff and fantastic team of over 600 volunteers. As a charity that is 100% independent of government funding, it is thanks to our supporters that we can continue responding when we are most needed, every day of the year.
WHAT WE DO
Our vision
To end preventable death, disability and suffering from critical illness and injury.
Our mission
To transform time-critical care through prevention, treatment and recovery.
OUR VALUES
Our values set out the qualities and behaviours we aspire towards as an organisation and they underpin everything that we do.
Because it matters that colleagues come to work with a sense of drive, purpose and curiosity.
We lead the way
Because exploring the future inspires us.
We achieve our best together
Our commitment to teamwork, diversity and inclusion enables us to build strong networks and achieve more for our community.
NEW MULTI-PURPOSE RESOURCE
Airbase, head office, academy & visitors' centre
The planned development of a state-ofthe-art airbase, headquarters and visitors’ centre, will support our patients through better training facilities for our exceptional people, making us more resilient for the future.
The potential of this new multi-purpose facility underpins all of our ambitions across our strategy.
OUR AIMS: PREVENTION
Out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCR) affects around 30,000 people in the UK every year. Unfortunately, fewer than one in ten typically survive.
PREVENTION
Raise out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCR) survival rate. Raise post-roadtraffic collision survival rate.
Extend our indirect impact through outreach and education.
Between 2022-2023, our Help With All Your Heart campaign enabled over 900 people to develop their confidence through CPR & defibrillator training in their local community.
We want to ensure defibrillators are present in even more of the communities we serve, and many more local people have the confidence to use them and to save a life.
OUR AIMS: TREATMENT
We will continue to bring advanced-level, time-critical care to injury side, or to where a patient has fallen ill, before assisting the patient in transporting them to the specialist centre where their chances of survival continue to increase.
We can provide anaesthetic, sedation and surgery to assist our patients in getting a better recovery.
Increase our service delivery.
Increase the scope of our practice. Maximise our availability.
OUR AIMS: RECOVERY
Our care doesn't stop when the crews leave the scene or the hospital.
Our Patients & Families Support Team is here to offer tailored support for our patients and for their families, and even those good Samaritans who stepped up on scene.
RECOVERY
Offer tailored support for all our patients. Offer a peer-support programme.
Establish a memorial garden and visitors' centre.
We aim to continue to help our patients to fill in any missing gaps in their pre-hospital care and to support bereaved families.
