AZ ELSŐ WOOD FESZTIVÁL TÖRTÉNETE STORY OF FIRST WOOD FESTIVAL
A MOME line – design műhely 2010-ben hagyományteremtő céllal kezdett a Wood Fesztivál szervezésébe. Pozsár Péter építész, az Újirány csoport alapító tagja és a Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem oktatója már 2009-ben kiszemelte a koppenhágai alkotótábort, ahol a pályázat útján kiválasztott csapatok egy kilométer falécből valósíthatták meg ötleteiket. A következő évi eseményre már a MOME építészhallgatóit is beválogatta a zsűri, és amikor a Wood Works, a dán szervezésben meghirdetett Woodfestival 2010 rendezője bejelentette, hogy finanszírozási okok miatt kénytelenek egy évvel elhalasztani az eseményt, Péter Bakos Maximot a MOME line ügyvezetőjét bevonva úgy döntött, a Magyar Wood Fesztivál marad. Augusztus 24-én indult és 29-én ért véget az első magyar Wood Fesztivál, ahol négy fiatal, kreatív hallgatókból álló csapat egyenként egy kilométer fenyőlécből tervezett meg és hozott létre komplex, összecsukható vagy szétszerelhető szobrokat. A munkaórák olyan jó hangulatban teltek, hogy a kiírásban szereplő négy installáció mellett további szerkezeti kísérletekre és egy fából készített Újirány-logóra is futotta a lelkesedésből, és a faanyag az utolsó centiig elfogyott. A hallgatóknak meghirdetett alkotóhét egyszerre szólt a fa sokoldalú, kreatív felhasználásáról és az installációk, szobrok meghatározott feltételek között létrehozható végtelen számú formai variációjáról. Mindezen túl a Wood Fesztivál már a kezdetektől a közreműködő intézmények (Budapesti Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetem, MOME, Nyugat-Magyarországi Egyetem Alkalmazott Művészeti Intézet) közötti együttműködés és kommunikáció
fontos része kívánt lenni, hiszen az ehhez hasonló projektek során nélkülözhetetlen az egyes területek kollaborációja. Az egyhetes alkotótáborban négy csapatvezető irányítása alatt összesen húsz hallgató vett részt az építészet és a terméktervezés területeiről. Hasonlóan a tavalyi dán Woodfestival játékszabályaihoz, itthon is minden csapat egy-egy kilométer 4×4 cm keresztmetszetű fenyőlécből tervezte meg és hozta létre a saját szobrát vagy installációját. Némi nehezítést jelent, hogy a szervezők egy új kihívással bővítették az eredeti kiírást: a végeredménynek a csomópontoknál összecsukhatónak és/vagy szétszerelhetőnek kell lennie. Ez a tervezői szemlélet próbára tétele mellett azért is volt fontos, mert az így szállíthatóvá tett alkotások később a Design Héten is bemutatkoztak. A faanyagot Közép-Európa vezető fakereskedelmi vállalata, a JAF Holz Ungarn Kft. biztosította; a táborozás feltételeit pedig az NKA és a Csongrádi Művésztelep biztosította. MOME line – design works organized the first Hungarian Wood Festival in 2010 with the aim of creating a tradition. Péter Pozsár architect, founder of Újirány group and lecturer at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design took notice of a Danish event as early as in 2009. At the workshop in Copenhagen teams, selected via a competition, were asked to realize their designs made from 1 kilometer of wood planks. The following year architect students of MOME were also selected by the jury, but Wood Works, the organizer of the Danish Woodfestival 2010 announced that the event would be canceled due to financial problems. At this point the enthusiastic Péter asked Maxim Bakos, the manager of MOME line – design works to join him and the two decided that the Hungarian Wood Festival will still be held. The first Hungarian Wood Festival started on 24th and ended on 29th August with four teams composed of young and creative students designing and making complex installations or sculptures that can be folded or disassembled, made of a kilometer of wood planks. The working hours were spent in such a good atmosphere that not only the four required installations were finished but there was enough enthusiasm to experiment with some more structures and even to make a wooden Újirány logo so all the material was used up down to the last centimeters. The week-long creative student workshop’s theme was using wood in a versatile and creative way, and the infinite form variations of installations and sculptures created under specific conditions. In addition, another goal of the Wood Festival was to be an integral part in the cooperation and communication of participating institutions (BME, MOME, NYME-AMI), as in
projects such as this the collaboration of various fields is indispensable. During the week-long creative workshop 20 students, led by 4 team leaders participated from various fields of the architecture and product design area. Similar to the rules of the Danish Woodfestival held in 2009, each team designed and created its own sculpture or installation using 1 kilometer of 4×4 cm pinewood planks. To make it a bit more difficult, a new challenge was added to the conditions by the organizers: the resulting works had to be foldable and/or disassemblabe by the juncions. Besides being a test for the design, it was also important that the installations were transportable to be exhibited at the Budapest event of the Design Week 2010. The planks were provided by JAF Holz Ungarn Ltd., Central Europe’s market-leader wood company; and the stay of participants in Csongrád was supported by NKA and the Csongrád Art Colony.
Pozsár Péter csapata az 1000 méter lécet hosszabb-rövidebb darabokra fűrészelve az egyik fiatal fa lombkoronájába épített fészket. Ez aztán megszakítás nélkül a környező tereptárgyak közt kígyózva végül egy négyszögletes barlangba torkollik, példázva ezzel a házak két archetípusát. Érdekes megoldást választottak a szerkezet rögzítésére is, a csavarok helyett az egyes fadarabok végeibe fúrt lyukaknál fogva madzaggal csomózták össze. Péter Pozsár’s group, sawing the 1000 m of planks into shorter and longer pieces, built a nest into the shroud of one of the younger trees. From there, snaking around its immediate environment, they continued with the structure to form a quadrilateral cave, as an allegory of the two housing archetypes. They chose an exciting way of securing the structures: instead of nails, they used strings running through drilled holes to hold together the planks. Huszár Andris spontán helyett inkább virtuóz csapata egy háromméteres tojás alakú szerkezetet készített, amely homokzsákokkal megpakolva a keljfeljancsihoz hasonlóan fog újra és újra visszabillenni eredeti helyzetébe bármilyen lendületes kitérés után is. Csapattagok: Hindy Dorka, Lukács Zsófia, Babos Annamária, Vass-Eysen Áron Andris Huszár’s less spontaneous, but more virtuoso group created a 3m egg-shaped structure, which will work as a tumble-up after being loaded with sandbags: it will return to its original position, no matter how animated the swing is. A legrizikósabb kísérleteket stílszerűen Losonczi Áron építész és feltaláló vezényelte le: az eredeti hosszúságában meghagyott fenyőléceket minél magasabbra nyújtóztató, több emeletnyi konstrukció mellett külön egy nagy távolságokat áthidalni képes négyzetrácsos szerkezetet is készítettek, amelynek teherbírását végül a helyszínen ki is próbálták. Csapattagok: Macsuga Eszter, Gulyás Brigitta, Ferth Tímea, Pataki Attila Not surprisingly, the most risky experiments were conducted by group leader, architect and inventor Áron Losonczi: his group left the planks their original size to create a multistorey-high structure stretching far up towards the sky. Elmondhatjuk viszont, hogy a helyszínen járó kibicek és gyerekek egyöntetűen Szőke Gábor Miklós csapatának tizenhétméteres dínóját zárták a szívükbe. A békés növényevőt egy kisebb makett alapján, a változatos hosszúságú léceket spontán módon egymáshoz csavarozva alig három nap alatt valósították meg a csapattagok. A fej és a farok a törzsről leszerelhető, így a többi installációval együtt ezt a munkát is viszontláthatjuk a designhéten. Csapattagok: Debreczeni Péter, Boromissza Júlia, Cserháti Csinszka, Nagy Anna We can say, however, that the most popular piece of the festival was the 17 meter dinosaur, made by Gábor Miklós Szőke’s group. The peaceful herbivore was made based on a smaller model in only three days, by spontaneously screwing together planks of various sizes. Its head and tail is detachable, therefore we can welcome the dinasaur at the Design Week together with the other installations. A Wood Fesztivál utóélete: Nemcsak a hazai sajtó érdeklődését keltette fel az első magyar Wood Fesztivál, de a designboom, a timbrarchitecture, a designaddict és a designeast is beszámolt a munkákról.
Októberben a Design Hét 2010 ideje alatt a Csongrádon készült legmonumentálisabb szobrot, a tizenhét méter hosszú dinoszauruszt állítottuk ki a Gödör füves területén. A szobor Szőke Gábor Miklós frissdiplomás képzőművész (www.tikito.com) és csapatának (Boromissza Júlia, Cserháti Csinszka, Debreczeni Péter, Nagy Anna) munkája. A Design Hét nyitónapján Bakos Maxim ünnepélyes megnyitóval és egy beszámoló fotókiállítással köszönte meg a szervezők és a résztvevők munkáját, a Művésztelepen készült további installációkat pedig október 6-ától a Ligno Novum szakvásáron láthatták az érdeklődők. Wood Festival’s afterlife Not only the Hungarian press was curious about the first Hungarian Wood Festival but also designboom, timbrarchitecture, designaddict and designeast published an article about the works. In October during the Budapest Design Week 2010 the most monumental, 17 meter-long sculpture built on Csongrád was exhibited in the heart of Budapest. The sculpture was created by the team of Gábor Miklós Szőke, who is a freshly graduated sculptor (www.tikito.com). At the opening day of Design Week at the opening of the Wood Festival photo exhibition Maxim Bakos thanked the organizers and participants for their work. The other works created at the Art Colony was exhibited at Ligno Novum expo from 6th October.
