Cambodia : Angkor and the forgotten

Far from the Angkor temples going through staggering revival and tourist development, Cambodia shelters a handful of forgotten temples, unbeknownst marvels still left alone for some time. « When coming to Cambodia, everyone dreams of discovering a lost city in the jungle ! » thinks Bopany Shantan, an official guide. « And some visitors are quite disappointed with the tourist crowd: Angkor has become an international star ! »In 2008, the mythical site has indeed attracted a fair share of the two million visitors welcomed by the country and generated a revenue of 31 million dollars while only selling entrance tickets. Angkor is obviously no longer a mysterious and lost city. The biggest religious complex on the globe has become the World Heritage's flagship. Enlisted by the Unesco, the site today attracts over a million visitors. Back in the old days, a machete was needed to hack one's way through the jungle. Today, one has to mingle through the crowd. No one is short of imagination on how to display the sites and attract visitors...
