With 8 places listed as World Heritage by UNESCO, the city of Nara, in the Japanese region of Kansai, becomes therefore the second city of Japan, after Kyoto, for her very rich heritage. Nara was the first Imperial Capital of Japan: a past that has left in legacy many temples, sanctuaries, and collections of Buddhists works of arts, remembering the splendor of the Heijo Period. Most of these buildings are spreading out through the park of Nara, located between the small city and the forest of Kasugayama. A herd of deers, protected in this place since the 7th century, lives in the large areas on the side of the hills. Nara is commemorating in 2010 her 1300th birthday.
