the governor laid out his vision for returning North Carolina to prosperity with a commitment to focus on three key areas: the economy, education and efficiency. To that end, the governor quickly launched economic development reforms that concentrate on private-sector job creation and retention. He tasked educators with instilling knowledge and teaching skills to ensure students are college and/

Lamplight Inn & Tobacco Farm Camp Lamplight Inn and Tobacco Farm Camp held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, to celebrate the addition of an events area to hold weddings, receptions, parties, etc. It is a bed and breakfast but offers cabins and R.V. sites as well. The Lamplight Inn resides on a 150 year old, 5 acre tobacco farm. Step back from the fast pace of today’s lifestyle to the soft glow of the many chimney lamps used to light this restored farm. Relax on the wraparound porch or stroll the grounds. Arise early to the peaceful sounds of birds chirping and watch the rabbits, groundhogs and deer come out to feed. Nestled in the woods with lots of open space, you can bring your children and your pets. Relax in a hammock, porch swing, on the barn porch or the corn crib screened gazebo. Shoot some hoops or pitch horseshoes. The Lamplight Inn is located at 1680 Flemingtown Road in Henderson. You can contact Shirley Payne, innkeeper, at (252) 438-6311 or see them on the web at lamplightbnb. net.

New You with Shortcake!
Magnolia Management, LLC, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, to celebrate their business and new chamber membership. Specializing in residential single and multi-family investor-owned properties, Magnolia Management LLC moved into its offices at 719 South Chestnut Street in Henderson at the beginning of August, 2012. The company is the brainchild of Tony Norwood and his wife, Pam, who are longtime Henderson residents. Tony and Pam partnered with Lundy Sykes and Kate Barker, of Norfolk, Va., to form the company. Steve Ball, a fully qualified North Carolina Real Estate Broker in Henderson serves as Brokerin-Charge for the firm. With more than 30 years practical experience in the home improvement business, Tony became convinced that a property management firm which could offer reduced maintenance and repair costs to owners of investment property with no reduction in the quality of the work, would both increase the profitability of the investors’ property and also improve tenant retention and lower vacancy rates. Thus, Magnolia Management was chartered as a fully licensed real estate management firm under the laws of North Carolina. The company now represents 15 investors and has 10 employees. You can contact Tony or Pam at 252/430-8005 or on the web at magnoliamanagement.com.

The Chamber Ambassador Program gives member businesses an opportunity to have representation in a highly visible and direct way. The ambassadors serve as an official representative of the chamber to other members or potential members. Their responsibilities con-
sist of: promoting the chamber’s value, as well as events, within the community; recruiting of new members; support and retention of current members; attendance and recognition at chamber functions such as ribbon cuttings, business after hours, roundtables and community events; volunteer help at chamber events; and to ser ve as a liaison throughout the year with their assigned members to keep contact information updated and to hear their concerns. Ambassadors can earn points for carrying out these various responsibilities and be recognized along with the company they represent as Ambassador of the Quarter or Ambassador of the Year. For more information on becoming a chamber ambassador, contact the director of membership ser vices, Annette Roberson, at (252) 438-8414 or by e-mail at annette@hendersonvance. org.
