“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

Merry Christmas from Clearview

At Clearview our goal is to “Make Christ Visible”. We have seen first-hand what God will do when we spotlight Christ before the watching world. It has been an exciting year in the life of our church. The Lord has truly blessed us once again. We have seen many people come to know Christ as their Savior and Lord. We have seen families changed and marriages restored. We have seen young people dedicate their lives to Christ and many commit to full-time ministry. We have seen God’s people using their God-given gifts to minister to those in need. We would love for you to join us this Sunday. You will find that every service is prayerfully designed with Christ-honoring and contemporary music. Every message is based on the Word of God with practical application for our daily lives. Children’s ministry is a top priority at Clearview. You will find a fully staffed nursery and wonderful programs like Awana and Kids Club for kids of all ages. We also have a dynamic youth ministry that challenges our young people to Love God, Love People and then Do Something about it. The upcoming year is filled with fresh activities for adults, youth and children of all ages. Please visit us online at www.clearviewbc.org for more information or find us on facebook at www.facebook.com/ClearviewHenderson.

Nutbush Presbyterian Church SR 39 North Townsville, 27584

Nutbush Presbyterian Church in Townsville was organized in 1757, and since it is one of the oldest congregations in the area, it has a rich history. The first two pastors, James Creswell and Henry Patillo, were active leaders in the American Revolution. Around 1800, John Chavis, one of the first African-American men to be licensed by a major American denomination to preach, ministered occasionally at Nutbush. Samuel Graham, another distinguished pastor of our church (1822-35), went on to serve as one of the first professors of Bible and Church History at Union Seminary in Virginia. The congregation stood steadfast through a major crisis in 1941 when the beloved old church building burned on a Sunday morning. The picturesque stone building which now stands in the historic old clearing bears witness to the resolve which the Lord provided during this crisis. The church celebrated its Bicentennial in 1957, almost 20 years before our country's 200th birthday, and celebrated its 250th Anniversary in 2007. Behind the church is the historic church cemetery lovingly maintained with the support of the congregation and many in the larger community for whom this is the last resting place for their loved ones. We believe part of this cemetery is the burial place for a number of African Americans who lived and died in the early history of the church. Even after 250 years Nutbush is still a vibrant congregation. Our membership totals about 40 members, but with all ages well represented. A youth group and a chapter of Presbyterian Women meet regularly. In addition to morning worship on Sunday, we have a Children's Church and an Adult Sunday School Class. Each year the youth gather gifts for the Operation Christmas Child ministry of the Samaritan's Purse organization. A highlight of each summer is Vacation Bible School, which is well attended with children and adults from the church and community. Our sense of who we are revolves around spiritual growth in Christ, Christian fellowship and care for one another, and concern for our community and world. Our pastor is the Rev. David Vellenga who has served the congregation for 10 years. We gather for morning worship every Sunday at 9:15 a.m. We welcome all who seek a relationship with Christ within a community that has been a part of Christ's ministry to our larger community for so many years.

“Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; And to make all [men] see what [is] the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly [places] might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God.” — Eph 3:7-10
