MY PASSION FOR MY BELOVED
“I am so passionate about making a positive contribution to my beloved South Africa and her people; particularly the South African Police Service, the organisation I serve with sheer dedication and total commitment. To all fellow women, I say that the world is your oyster and nothing should prevent you from attaining what you aspire to”. These words by the divisional commissioner, responsible for legal and policy service in the South African Police Service, lt. genl. Sally Khan has motivated many women in the police service through the years to never undermine their abilities as well as encouraging them to overcome fears and work hard to achieve their goals.
Her quest for success started in 1980 when she matriculated at Mountview Secondary School in Verulam, north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. Three years later she underwent her basic police training at Wentworth, Cato Manor. Upon completion of her training, lt. genl. Khan, a student constable by then, started serving her people at the local Verulam police station. Her dedication saw her serving as a charge office commander, relief commander and crime prevention commander and later worked at the investigation unit and ultimately became a branch commander

Lt genl. Khan’s legal star started shining in 1994 when she was appointed as a prosecutor in disciplinary hearings at the office of the area commissioner, Durban, and in 1998 she was appointed as the provincial disciplinary officer at the office of the provincial commissioner KwaZulu-Natal. Her excellent work rate, unquestionable dedication and abovepar diligence led to her appointment as a senior superintendent responsible for discipline labour relations at the human resource management division at police head office in Pretoria in 1999.
