HCDA WORKS BEHIND THE SCENES TO LAND MORE THAN 1700 NEW JOBS FOR HENRY COUNTY

Starting in late July, three major firms announced plans to expand operations into Henry County netting approximately 1764 jobs in 2021. The exciting news came in a span of about three weeks as Governor Brian Kemp made the official announcements on behalf of each of the firms. In each case, it was clear that the Henry County Development Authority (HCDA) helped stick the landing in bringing these new businesses to the area.

The HCDA, under the leadership of Henry County Development Authority Executive Director, F. J. “Josh” Fenn, works to promote economic development in Henry County through the attraction of new investment and jobs and the retention and expansion of existing industries.

Purple Plans to Invest $21 million in Henry County Manufacturing Facility

On July 27, Purple Innovation, Inc. (“Purple”), the comfort technology company known for creating the Purple® Mattress, announced that it has selected Henry County for its third U.S. manufacturing facility. Purple plans to make a $21 million investment in a 520,000-square-foot facility, delivering 360 jobs to the area. The company is expanding its manufacturing operations to the East Coast to meet consumer demand. The Home Depot Announces New Henry County Supply Chain Facility

A second expansion announcement was made on August 4, by Georgia-based The Home Depot. The company announced its plans to build a total of three new warehousing facilities in DeKalb, Fulton, and Henry Counties. This expansion project will deliver approximately 1,000 jobs to greater metro Atlanta.

In 2017, The Home Depot announced a plan to invest $1.2 billion in its supply chain to expand its distribution network with approximately 150 new facilities nationally. This investment will expand the company’s current same-day and next-day delivery options to 90% of the U.S. population. Georgia is a hub for the company’s Southeast supply chain operations and its national delivery strategy.

Zinus USA, Inc. Announces First U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Facility

On August 18, Zinus USA, Inc., a rapidly growing e-commerce mattress and furniture company and subsidiary of Zinus Inc., announced that they will develop their first North American advanced manufacturing facility in McDonough, GA. The company will invest $108 million and create 804 jobs in Henry County.

The new Zinus manufacturing plant will re-tool the former Toys “R” Us distribution center, located at 830 Highway 42 South in McDonough.

With over 40 years of experience in the home furnishings industry, Zinus has expanded to 20 countries across the globe and plans to continue growing their international footprint in the coming years. Zinus has several distribution centers across the U.S., but this marks the company’s first U.S. manufacturing facility. The company’s other manufacturing facilities are in Indonesia and China.

Through its investment, one of the largest in Georgia since the start of the new fiscal year, Zinus will bring hundreds of good paying advanced manufacturing jobs to the area. The new manufacturing facility is expected to open in the first half of 2021 and will also serve as a U.S. distribution center for the company.
