Henry Cares. Henry Committed. You’ve probably seen it on our county’s social media and websites. County employees have added it to their email signatures. If you are ever in a county building, there’s a good chance you will hear staff reciting “Henry Committed” to each other. “Henry Cares. Henry Committed.” is our promise to each other and our residents. We care about the people of Henry County. We care about your experiences, your quality of life, and your ability to benefit from the services we provide. “Henry Cares. Henry Committed.” is more than just a phrase that we say. It is the embodiment of our commitment to you. You can see it every day in our evolving athletics, innovative programs, and recreational experiences. You can see it in the smiles that greet you when you enter one of our facilities. You can see it when you stroll through one of your community parks. You can see it because we live it. You can see it because we are Henry Committed.

Meet Donna Holder, the heart of our Parks and Rec team. She serves the people of Henry County as Administrative Coordinator, assisting with day-to-day operations of the department and providing management support. We’re so glad to have her!

Thomas: Tell us about yourself.
Donna: I’m from Ola, GA. I am married to Danny Holder, and we have two adult daughters, one granddaughter, and a grandson due in December. I was a Parks and Rec kid that played softball and basketball. I also attended youth field trips. As a Parks and Rec adult, I played tennis and golf. I had the privilege of taking tennis lessons from Mrs. Joeann Compton, one of the first instructors I met when I started working for Henry County. My passions are family, friends, holidays, kids, dogs, walking, antiquing to repurpose items, yoga, reading, and gardening.
Thomas: How long have you been in Parks and Recreation?
Donna: 34 years, or as I like to say, three decades down
Thomas: What made you get into Parks and Recreation?
Donna: I was in a high school vocation program, and a school supervisor knew of a job opening. I continued working while attending Clayton State. I wanted to help people. The rest is history.
Thomas: What do you enjoy most about working for the Parks and Recreation Department?

Donna: Being inspired and energized by my amazing coworkers that feel more like family, outstanding volunteers (the backbone of Parks & Rec), special needs participants, watching generations of youth come up through our programs (some became staff members), outdoor events, and the variety of day-to-day functions. We offer a wide variety of programming and maintain over 1400 acres.
Thomas: What’s your favorite quote?

Donna: I have so many!!!
“Learn to love your work and you’ll never have to ‘work’ again.” -S. Truett Cathy “Be not forgetful to entertain STRANGERS for thereby some have entertained ANGELS unawares.” Hebrews 13:2
