Timeless Tips for Dressing for Success Dressing for success, oh in this all too politically correct world where we have to watch every word uttered, dressing for success doesn’t just mean wearing the androgynous pantsuit or the power red tie, it means projecting the positive image of your employers, and dressing for the job you aspire too. Wearing the right clothes can boost your self-confidence, and nothing is more appealing than confidence. Donning the right outfit can get you noticed for all the right reasons. Coco Chanel advised women that on one last check in the mirror, remove one piece of jewelry—seems simple right? But dressing for work might not be as simple. Depending on the work you do, the environment in which you work often dictates what is appropriate. Working in the government sector often requires somewhat conservative attire. So after perusing “dressing for success” articles, here are a few general dos and don’ts for getting

noticed for all the right reasons at work: • Don’t wear revealing clothing— save your mini skirt or plunging neckline for the club. • Don’t wear tennis shoes or flip flops—even on casual Friday. • Don’t wear clothing that is stained or torn—even if working outside. • Do wear layers in an office setting. A jacket or sweater not only adds polish but can be a welcome addition if the air conditioning temp is too low. • Don’t wear t-shirts or shirts with advertising or slogans. • Do be conscientious of other people’s allergies. Stay away from excessive cologne or perfume. • Do express your individuality with some great accessories—a fashionable belt, a printed scarf or classic timepiece—the options are endless. • Do project confidence. A winning smile and a firm handshake can be your best accessory.

Cauliflower is an incredibly versatile vegetable that can act as a grain substitute for those who have a gluten intolerance or for those trying to cut down on carbs.

You can visit your favorite food blog or recipe website to find recipes for the cauliflower transformations listed below. Try Mashed Cauliflower as a substitute for high-carb mashed potatoes. But skip all the butter!

You can flavor cauliflower then roast, fry or grill it, like these Buffalo Cauliflower bites. They make a great chicken wing substitute.

With a food processor and an oven, cauliflower can be transformed into a crispy pizza or quiche crust.

Getting Strong with sam

Glute Gainz

1. Quadruped hip extensions: Start on your hands and knees (quadruped position) with your knees below your hips and your wrists below your shoulders, fingers pointing forward. Keeping the core muscles engaged, slowly lift the left leg. Your knee should stay bent as you press your foot up toward the ceiling. 2. Uni-leg chair squat: (L) Start by sitting close to the edge of a chair with arms crossed, chest lifted, right foot solidly on the floor, and left leg elevated about 8 inches. Engage your abs and lean your torso slightly forward to prepare to stand. Dig your right heel firmly into the floor, shift glutes backward, and straighten you right knee while squeezing up on your glutes. Hold your left leg up and balance for 3 counts. Lower slowly and repeat. 3. Pretzel side kick: (R) Start seated with your right knee bent directly in front of your hip and left knee bent behind your left hip. Rotate your torso and place your hands on either side of your right knee. Brace your core as you lift your left knee and foot off the floor, keeping your chest up. Keep your left leg lifted and extend to kick, leg parallel to the floor. Bend your left knee back in and release it to the floor.

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced Cauliflower can be a strong soup foundation as well. You can cream it or cut it and throw it in the pot in place of noodles. Cauliflower cakes are a mix between a quiche and a meatloaf. They are savory and make a perfect substitute for high-calorie casseroles. The Inbox

August Health Observances August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, National Breastfeeding Month, National Immunization Awareness Month and Psoriasis Awareness Month. According to the National Psoriasis Foundation, Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that causes raised, red, scaly patches to appear on the skin. It typically affects the outside of the elbows, knees or scalp, though it can appear on any location. Some people report that psoriasis is itchy, burns and stings. While scientists do not know what exactly causes psoriasis, we do know that the immune system and genetics play major roles in its development. Usually, something triggers psoriasis to flare. Psoriasis often develops between the ages of 15 and 35, but it can develop at any age. About 10 to 15 percent of those with psoriasis get it before age 10. There are five types of psoriasis: Plaque Psoriasis, Guttate, Inverse, Pustular and Erythrodermic. Plaque psoriasis is the most common and appears as raised, red patches covered with a white buildup of dead skin cells. The are often itchy and painful, and they can crack and bleed. Psoriasis can show up anywhere—on the eyelids, ears, mouth and lips, skin folds, hands and feet, and nails. The skin at each of these sites is different and requires different treatments. Light therapy or topical treatments are often used when psoriasis is limited to a specific part of the body. However, doctors may prescribe oral or injectable drugs if the psoriasis is widespread or greatly affects your quality of life. Effective treatments are available, no matter where your psoriasis is located. Visit www.psoriasis.org to learn more.

Lack of sleep can be a workplace safety hazard. Not only does it leave you feeling grumpy and foggy, it can throw your decision making off. Tiredness can impair your judgment, limit your reaction time, promote laziness and leave you absent minded. Sleep deprivation was even a factor in some of the biggest disasters in recent history. Investigations into the 1979 nuclear accident at Three Mile Island, the massive Exxon Valdez oil spill and the nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl revealed that lack of sleep played a critical role in the accidents. The brain and its ability to remember is an essential key to remaining safe a work. Alertness helps to ensure the avoidance of work place perils. It’s normal to be in the presence of danger in your workplace; danger is everywhere and you can’t escape it but you can prepare for it. A perfectly organized office space can cause injuries if alertness is impaired. For example, an alert employee would be aware of the wet floor sign in the break area and proceed with caution. A sleepy employee might not see the sign and injure themselves and contribute to the injuries of others. No safety rules were broken in this scenario, but the lack of attentiveness lead to the employee being injured. To keep yourself and those around you safe, make sure you’re getting six to eight hours of sleep a night. For more safety tips and information, log on to www.henrycommunicator.com.
