The employee intranet, or The Henry Communicator, is a one-stop shop for anything and everything you need to know about working for Henry County including information on benefits, training, service opportunities, safety tips and TS help. Its recent improvements and updates make it easy to navigate and understand. Presently, you can find information and direct links to CBT Nugget Training and “Working Advantage.” CBT Nugget Training consists of online tutorials designed to walk you through specific computer software programs like Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft PowerPoint. Working Advantage is a website that provides discounts and reward programs to employees from numerous corporations. After registering with a company member ID, you can access discounts on restaurants, hotels and even theme park tickets. The intranet also houses information on discounts with Gold’s Gym, Verizon, AT&T and Sprint. The intranet is where you can go to find Employee of the Month recognitions, internal event and party information and announcements on recent promotions and retirements, as well as funeral and birth notices. You can submit communication, maintenance and TS request forms, download end of the month report templates and update your W9. You can access the employee intranet by logging on to www.henrycommunicator.com or visiting the County website at www.henrycounty-ga.org, scrolling down to the bottom of the front page and clicking the first link on the left entitled “Employee Intranet.” If you need help logging in, contact Jesse Dobbs in Technology Services at jdobbs@co.henry.ga.us.

Welcome
Welcome to the Henry County Government employee newsletter, appropriately titled The Inbox, to be delivered to your inbox on a monthly basis. Inside you will find the latest employee news, recognitions, retirements and the like in an effort to keep employees connected and directed to all the positive happenings in Henry County government. In a county government with more than 1,600 employees, it can be challenging to connect with our fellow employees, so hopefully, if this newsletter serves no other purpose than to connect you with just one more person or resource, then it will have been successful. This is your employee newsletter, and along that vein, we welcome your submissions, suggestions, news items and tidbits, whether it’s something great happening in your department that you want to inspire others with, or something happening in your life that you want to share—a personal accomplishment, recognition, or your outstanding child earning a merit scholarship at school. Did you create a fantastic and delicious recipe for the holidays? Complete a class or certification? Finish your first marathon or receive that muchdeserved promotion? Perhaps you mastered a second language, became a CERT volunteer for Emergency Management or completed the Citizen’s Fire or Police Academy. Let us know and we’ll be happy to share the news with your friends and coworkers. We hope you enjoy this newsletter, or at the very least, give it a read through, because you never know what you might find in The Inbox! -Communications Director, Melissa Robinson The Inbox

November Health Observances November is American Diabetes Month, COPD Awareness Month, Lung Cancer Awareness Month and National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month.
Diabetes Types:
Type 1 diabetes affects five percent of people who have the disease, while the other 95 percent suffer from type 2 diabetes. Type 1 is usually diagnosed in children and young adults whose body does not produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. Adults who have type 2 diabetes have insulin resistance, which means their bodies do not use insulin properly which in turn causes their blood glucose levels to rise higher than normal. There is no cure for type 2 diabetes, but it can be managed. Balancing the food you eat with exercise and medicine (if prescribed) can keep your blood glucose in a healthy range.

SAFETY FIRST Workplace Harassment, Discrimination and Respect.
Director’s Leadership Training Class
The Inbox
Some of the most important things to talk about are often some of the most uncomfortable. Like this month’s safety theme of workplace harassment, discrimination and respect. We all know it’s important to treat others in a way that you would want to be treated. The Risk Management Department would like to remind employees to be courteous and respectful and to avoid seemingly flirtatious or otherwise offensive behavior. Harassment is defined as any unwelcome, verbal or non-verbal, visual or physical conduct that is severe or pervasive and affects working conditions or creates a hostile working environment. Even though harassment may not be deliberate, it takes only one individual feeling uncomfortable to qualify as harassment. If you find yourself in a confusing, concerning or uncomfortable situation, make your feelings known. Silence cannot create change. Addressing a problem is the only way to diffuse it. Risk Management has released two new informational videos, available on the employee intranet entitled “Workplace Harassment, Discriminaton and Respect” and “Hazardous Communication for Public Employees.” Employees are encouraged to watch these videos online as well as review the New Hire Safety Orientation packet. Help Risk Management help you: keep up to date on the department’s tips on safe working behavior and hazard-free working environments.

Greetings, As we approach the Holiday Season I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for the warm welcome I have received from the Citizens, Commissioners and Staff of Henry County. The reception and encouragement offered by everyone continues to amaze me each day. Since day one, I have been meeting with the Directors and Staff. During visits to the various Departments, I find purpose and commitment in the eyes of the people I meet that makes me very thankful to be part of the Henry County family. Here at Henry County we have the privilege to serve, and we embrace the responsibility of serving our public with professionalism, courtesy and efficiency. Simply put, the citizens are why we are here and it is that commitment we make each and every day. Again, thank you and I wish you and your family a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

Santa is Coming to Town Start making a list and checking it twice, because Santa Claus will make his annual stop at the Henry County Administration Building on Thursday, December 3, 2015. He will arrive by fire truck, courtesy of the Henry County Fire Department, at 2:30 p.m. and visit with children until 4:30 p.m. Henry County employees are invited to bring their children and grandchildren to meet with Santa and have their photos taken, and photos will be posted on the County Intranet—just in time for Christmas cards!
