Officer Honored with Life-Saving Medal

Officer Khiry Thomas with the Henry County Police Department was awarded his department’s prestigious Lifesaving Medal Award on January 20, 2017, for utilizing life-saving measures during an incident that occurred last August. Henry County Chief Keith Nichols presented the medal to Thomas. In the incident, Thomas was dispatched to a male who was unresponsive inside his vehicle which was blocking traffic on Jonesboro Road. Upon his arrival, Officer Thomas removed the male from the vehicle and began CPR. Two off-duty medical professionals were also present and assisted until Henry County Fire / Rescue arrived. Officer Thomas’ quick thinking and heroic actions helped save the gentleman’s life.

Commissioners Attend Henry County Day at the Capitol

Members of the Henry County Board of Commissioners, along with citizens, government officials and members of the business community attended Henry County Day at the Capitol on Monday, January 23, 2017. Hosted by the Henry County Chamber of Commerce and the Henry County Development Authority, Henry County Day at the Capitol provided an opportunity for citizens to engage with state lawmakers.
HCPD Awarded Grant to Combat Violence Against Women The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved the acceptance of a grant at the January 17 Commission meeting, that will be used to help women who are victims of violence. The Henry County Police Department was awarded a $70,000 grant from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for the Violence Against Women project which works to combat violence against women. This is the eighth straight year that the HCPD has received this grant. The project will include training law enforcement officers to more effectively identify and respond to violent crimes against women including crimes of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking and dating violence. women is a collaborative effort between the HCPD, prosecutors, judges and victim advocates. Funds will be used to help continue the Women’s Self Defense classes, specific training and providing a liaison for victims of violence. A match of $23,333 is required and is available in the department’s budget. In other grant news, Connecting Henry, Inc., received an operating grant from the Georgia Department of Human Services in the amount of $47,000. No matching funds are required. Connecting Henry is a planning and coordinating agency for services and programs directed at improving child health and child development, school performance and family function and family economics.
Henry County H.E.A.T Unit Honored

The Henry County Police Department’s H.E.A.T. Unit (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) was named the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety’s MATEN Agency of the Year at the Georgia State Awards meeting held on January 19, 2017. MATEN is the law enforcement agreement of the Metro Atlanta Traffic Enforcement Network that spans throughout the entire state of Georgia and includes law enforcement agencies from all over the state.
Henry County’s H.E.A.T. Unit officers have been honored several times in the past for their traffic and D.U.I. enforcement efforts and are known statewide as a premier agency in keeping dangerous drivers off the roadways. On January 20, Henry County Police Chief Keith Nichols recognized the H.E.A.T Unit’s accomplishments and congratulated the officers on their excellent work.
Commissioner Selected as Honoree for Charity Reception Henry County District V Commissioner Bruce Holmes was selected by the Made Man organization as an honoree for its annual Celebrity Charity Reception and Suit Drive, which was held on January 26, 2017 at the 595 North Event Center in Atlanta. Holmes joined several other men of influence and celebrities for a night of giving back, networking and celebrating the many contributions and accomplishments of a prestigious roster of honorees. The Made Man Honoree Reception was a national initiative acknowledging and honoring the
achievements of community leaders while building a bridge to empower achievement for underserved men. The Made Man campaign solicits notable influencers from the civic, business, entertainment and community activist arenas to volunteer their resources and donate business clothing to support underserved men. January 31 , 2017 HCPD Celebrates Promotion of Nine-year Veteran to Sergeant

The Henry County Police Department introduced their newest sergeant during a promotion ceremony held on January 27, 2017, in which public officials, co-workers, friends and family were in attendance to support Field Training Officer Wesley McNure, who received his sergeant’s stripes last week.
McNure is a 9-year veteran of the force and is certified as one of the department’s few Drug Recognition Experts. McNure was previously assigned to the department’s H.E.A.T. Unit where he received several awards with D.U.I. and Traffic Enforcement. He is also a former soldier of the Georgia National Guard.
Commissioner Dee Clemmons to Host First Town Hall Meeting Public invited to discuss “All Things Henry County”
District II Commissioner Dee Clemmons will hold her first Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at Nash Farm Park in Hampton. The theme of the evening is “All things Henry County” and Commissioner Clemmons will offer a lively and comprehensive agenda on a broad range of topics including public safety, traffic solutions, recreational
