women who served in the United States military. During the service a memorial wreath was laid at the Veterans Wall of Honor. The Keynote speaker was LTC Fred Edwards U.S. Army retired. Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock also attended the service and gave the invocation, while the benediction was given by Al Greer, MAJ US Army retired. Fred Wilcox from American Legion Post 516 gave opening and closing remarks and Senora Lee, retired police officer sang both the National Anthem and God Bless America. Bagpipe musician David Gregory also played Amazing Grace and Going Home. The Henry County Parks and Recreation Department and Veteran Jim Joyce organized the annual event and welcomed those in attendance to visit the Veterans Museum at Heritage Park.

Board Approves Agreements and Purchases

The Board of Commissioners approved several resolutions at the June 7 Commission meeting. Items approved include: • Fire Department resolution: approved a resolution appointing Fire Chief Jonathan Burnette, Deputy Fire Chief Stacey Ponder, Assistant Chief Billy Petite and Lieutenant Sam Polk to the Region 4 West Georgia Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council. • Police Department resolution: authorized a request by the Henry County Police Department to apply for and accept a grant in the amount of $106,035 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Patrick Leachy Bulletproof Vest Partnership program for the purchase of body armor vests for sworn officers. • Planning & Zoning resolution: approved an

amendment to the Henry County Planning and Zoning fee schedule related to film permit fees. • Stormwater resolution: approved RFP #22-19 for an update of the Henry County Flood Plain to House Moran Consulting, Inc in the amount of $2,284,000. • Transportation resolution: accepted a Georgia Smart Communities Challenge Grant of $30,000 from Partnership for Inclusive Innovation. Students 10-17 can register for FREE at www.hcprd.org for a six week class on the basics of chess and strategy. The one-hour classes will begin Saturday, June 18 at 10 am and take place every Saturday until July 23 at Clark Community Park in Stockbridge. All materials will be provided.


Henry County Hosts Career Fair at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Henry County hosted a Career Fair on June 4 at the Atlanta Motor Speedmway. Over 200 job seekers attended to connect with over 30 county departments. The fair was an absolute success and a plethora of

offers were made on the spot to applicants. With over 100 vacant positions from public safety to finance, the career fair offered job seekers in several fields opportunities.

June 14, 2022 BOC Approves Resurfacing of County Roads

Eighty-six county roads will soon be resurfaced after the Henry County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution awarding a bid to Blount Construction Company Inc. The action came at the June 7 Commission meeting. Public Works Director Ron Burkhalter made the presentation listing by district each road that is slated for resurfacing. The $25 million project will be funded through SPLOST V and TSPLOST respective district resurfacing accounts as well as through the Department of Transportation LMIG funds and the General Fund if necessary. The Board of Commissioners also approved two additional SPLOST resolutions at the June 7

Commission meeting. The resolutions approved include: • A Supplemental agreement for Heath & Lineback Engineers in the amount of $69,141.04 on the design of Flippen Road Extension utilizing SPLOST V funds. • Awarded a bid to Blount Construction Company Inc. for asphalt patching, crack sealing, and high-density mineral bond application on 25 county roads in the amount of $350,267.
