The American Association of Adapted Sports Programs (AAASP), headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, has developed one of the nation’s most comprehensive school-based athletic program for children with physical disabilities attending grades 1-12. Many prominent individuals and national organizations in
Veterans Day Cont. from 1 announce the memorials. Pastor Charles E. Jackson, LTC U.S. Army Ret., of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church will provide both the invocation and the benediction. Stockbridge High School JROTC will present the colors and Helen Busbin, Regent, Andrew McBride Chapter of the DAR, will recite the poem, “Freedom is Not Free.” The keynote speaker will be veteran Tommy Clack, Captain, U.S. Army Ret., who fought in Vietnam and was wounded in 1969, on the Cambodian border, losing three limbs and sustaining internal injuries and hearing loss. He retired in 2012 after 47 years of military and government employment, having worked in Washington, DC with Congress and as a staff assistant to the Director of the Atlanta VA. He also spent nearly 20 years as a field manager and veterans service officer with the GA Department of Veterans Affairs. Throughout his extensive career, Clack has travelled as a public and motivational speaker, averaging 150 engagements per year, where he discusses his faith in God, service to country and military duty. The Heritage Park Veterans Museum is also observing its third anniversary and the museum will be open on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., in honor of its anniversary and all of the veterans who have served in our nation’s military. Officials have scheduled an amazing reenactment and the public is invited to step back in history to see an authentic World War II encampment and witness what it was like overseas for our fighting soldiers. At 3 p.m. on Saturday, there will be a re-creation of FDR’s famous “Day in Infamy” speech, and an opportunity to purchase military art and challenge coins with proceeds to benefit the museum.
Heritage Park is located at 101 Lake Dow Road, just off Highway 81 east of McDonough. For more information, please contact Henry County Parks & Recreation at 770.288.7300.

November 4th, 2013 Adopt-a-Senior Program in Need of Volunteers
The Henry County Council on Aging and the Henry County Senior Services Department is once again making the holidays a little brighter with its AdoptA-Senior Program, where residents can buy a gift for a senior or simply make a donation to the program. This year’s suggested gift item is a set of towels, including a bath towel, hand towel and two washcloths, along with personal toiletry items such as bath powder, shampoo, conditioner, bath oil, mouthwash, toothpaste, shower gel or body lotion. Currently, there are 275 seniors in Henry County who receive Meals on Wheels and other inhome services from Henry County Senior Services. Many of these residents are homebound and on a fixed income and will be the recipients of the Adopt-A-Senior program. “A lot of our senior citizens are on a fixed income and sometimes these bath items are a luxury,” said Rita Green, Coordinator of Volunteer Services for Henry County Senior Services. “We also like to let our seniors know that we are thinking of them and they

really do appreciate that. For most of us, a set of towels and personal care products might not seem like a big gift, but for many of our seniors, it means so much.” Those interested in participating should call Senior Services, who will provide information on a senior in need. All gifts should be unwrapped and placed in a gift bag and delivered to the Heritage Senior Center by December 9, 2013. Please, no food items or wrapped packages. Also, Senior Services will accept individual gifts of personal care products or towel sets to be placed in gift bags, and cash or check donations are always appreciated. Heritage Senior Center is located at 1050 Florence McGarity Boulevard in McDonough. If you are interested in adopting a senior during this holiday season, please call Rita Green at 770.288.7010 or Anne Marie Quincey at 770.288.7000.
