Kroger and Pedigree team up for Henry County Animal Care and Control

In an effort to assist Henry County Animal Care and Control with placing shelter dogs in forever homes, the Pedigree Brand partnered with local Kroger Grocery Stores to donate $5,000 to the Henry County animal shelter.

The generous donation was

made possible through a program where a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Pedigree products went to support local, non-profit animal shelters, to assist shelter officials in finding permanent homes for homeless dogs. This is the second year that Pedigree Brand and

Regular Commission meetings will air Fridays, Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays on Henry TV Channel 14 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, at 9 a.m. & 7 p.m.

December 20th, 2013 Henry County Police Department Awarded Financial Crimes Task Force Grant

The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved acceptance of a grant in the amount of $1,750 from the United States Secret Service Financial Crimes Task Force. The action came at the December 17th regular Commission meeting.

The grant was awarded because of Henry County Police Department’s participation in the task force. The HCPD joined the Financial Crimes Task Force this past June, and is responsible for investigating white collar financial crimes such as fraud, bribery,

Ponzi schemes, insider trading, embezzlement, cybercrime, copyright infringement, money laundering, identity theft and forgery.

The grant funds can be used for training, certifications or purchases of equipment for task force members. No local match is required.

Henry County Fire Department Awarded Grant

The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved acceptance of a grant on behalf of the Henry County Fire Department in the amount of $19,103.84 from the Georgia Trauma Care Network Commission.

The grant will be used to purchase trauma equipment and there is no required match.

Commissioners also approved the award of a bid to Fireline for the purchase of structural firefighting boots. The purchase is for 40 pair of Haix Fire Hunter Xtreme bunker boots to replace what is currently in use, and Fireline submitted the lowest bid of $10,920.

In related news, Commissioners approved a

resolution authorizing the continuation of an automatic/ mutual aid agreement between Henry County and Rockdale County to provide fire department resources to each jurisdiction in the event of an emergency, subject to availability. This is a continuation of the 2008 approved agreement between Henry County and Rockdale County fire departments.

The action came during the December 3rd regular Commission meeting.

Pedigree Donation from 1 Kroger have partnered to assist Henry County Animal Care and Control.

Jim Pusateri, manager of the Hudson Bridge Kroger Grocery Store #493 in Stockbridge, presented a check to Henry County Animal Care and Control Director, Gerri Yoder, at the December 3rd regular Commission meeting, where the Henry County Board of Commissioners approved acceptance of the donation.

Henry County Board of Commissioners Approve Several DOT Items

The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved a request to install two additional stop signs making the intersection of Heathmoor Drive and Ashley Drive a four-way stop. According to the resolution, homeowners in the Emerald Plantation Subdivision in McDonough were concerned about safety at the intersection, due to visibility issues, visitors pulling into on-coming traffic and vehicles speeding.

The Homeowners Association followed procedures requesting that County officials allow for the additional stops signs to make the intersection a four-way stop, and as part of that procedure, the HOA circulated a petition, with 84 homes out of 110 in favor of the change at the intersection.

In other business, Commissioners also approved a resolution awarding a bid for guardrail repairs to the lowest bidder, Martin-Robbins Fence Co., Inc. of Snellville, GA, in the amount of $16, 099.

Guardrails at seven locations are on the list to be repaired and these sites include Turner Church Road, Dailey Mill Road, Oak Grove Road, and several

sections of East Lake Parkway.

Terry McMickle, Division Director of Henry County Public Works, said if damage to any of the guardrails was caused by a reported accident, he will inquire as to whether some of the cost of repairs can be recouped from involved drivers’ insurance companies.

Commissioners also approved a resolution awarding the bid for a road signs and signage materials contract to the lowest bidder, Vulcan Aluminum of Foley Alabama, in the amount of $80,551.80.

Bids were solicited for the purchase of road signs and signage materials on a renewable contract basis for the Henry County Department of Transportation.

The contract will allow quick access to needed signs and related materials and guarantees prices will remain firm for the contract period. The contract replaces the previous contract that is set to expire on December 31, 2013. The actions came at the December 17th regular commision meeting.
