September 28, 2018 Piedmont Henry Hospital Chooses Henry County Director As Breast Cancer Awareness Ambassador

Daunte’ Gibbs, Henry County’s Planning and Economic Development Director, has been selected to participate in the Piedmont Henry Hospital’s annual Real Men Wear Pink campaign, joining a small group of influential men to work as ambassadors for breast cancer awareness. With the month of October set as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Real Men Wear Pink campaign helps promote early detection of breast cancer through education and awareness. Gibbs, along with nine other Henry County men, have chosen to become involved, creating awareness for breast cancer and showing that it is an important issue for everyone. “I agreed to participate in the campaign because, in one way or another, cancer has impacted

my family,” said Gibbs. “I am of the belief that as a collective community, we should not stand idly by. The great equalizer is education and the more we understand as a whole, the higher our probability of not perishing for lack of knowledge.” Gibbs plans on utilizing social media to promote early detection, and said he will partner with family and friend to spread the word and disseminate information to churches, businesses, neighbors and community organizations. He will also use his and his wife’s nonprofit corporation, Heart to Help, to create awareness opportunities. In addition, the field trips encourage student appreciation of natural resources and awareness of the water/sewer utility’s role in the community. The “Cubihatcha Kids” will spend their designated day on the campus of the Cubihatcha Center participating in activities on topics such as: The Water and Wastewater Cycle, A Drop in the Bucket, Honey Bees, Native Wildlife, Tree Anatomy, Enviroscape, The Amazing Georgia Pine, and Project WET Activities such as “Germ Busters” and “Sum of the Parts” – all taught by HCWA staff; in addition, the Henry County Board of Education will be teaching Continued on page 7
