Course Objectives: The use of aesthetic crowns is a relatively new technology available to pediatric dentistry for the restoration and rehabilitation of the primary dentition. This is a hands-on workshop which covers case studies, and the principals and techniques for sizing, preparation, fitting and cementation of NuSmile Signature (pre-veneered) and NuSmile ZR (zirconia) crowns. Clinical recommendations including case selection will be reviewed as well as practical tips to overcome common problems will be outlined. Controversial issues around cementation, wear and durability will be discussed as well as the emerging evidence. At the completion of this workshop, the clinician will understand and demonstrate competence in all phases of case selection, tooth preparation, proper fitting and cementation of both pre-veneered and zirconia ceramic anterior and posterior primary crowns. Clinicians will be in a better position to decide which type of aesthetic restoration is best suited to their individual patient’s needs and should feel confident to offer parents and children a new aesthetic option for full coverage restorations for anterior or posterior teeth.

Advances in optical adjunctive aids for visualisation and detection of oral cancer and mucosal pathology Presented by Professor Camile S Farah CPD HOURS 6 (Lecture 3.5) Lecture

Hands-on Workshop

MELBOURNE

Advances in optical adjunctive aids for detection and visualisation of oral cancer and mucosal pathology.

This hands-on workshop will allow the participant to experience autofluorescence technology first hand under guidance. Theoretical information delivered during lectures will be examined in more detail, and participants will undertake clinical examinations on each other. Tips for the successful use of the newest multispectral visualisation aid (Identafi™) will also be offered to aid clinicians in recognising mucosal lesions more reliably.

14th August 2015

The role of the oral health professional is paramount in the early detection of mucosal disease, and there is an increasing demand on practitioners to be aware of changes in the oral cavity and to be able to deal with them accordingly. This lecture will address new advances in the diagnosis of sinister lesions, and clearly outline strategies to deal with malignant and potentially-malignant lesions based on the latest research and clinical findings. The lecture will cover clinical features of oral cancer and potentially cancerous conditions, and update practitioners on their changing aetiology and management.

Discussion relating to integration of Identafi™ into clinical practice, communication with patients about the use of the device, and referral pathways will be covered in more detail.

Modern implant treatment is about the definitive restoration not the implant. But whether you do the surgery, the prosthodontics or both, if you want to get the best results, you need to understand all aspects of treatment.

DAY 2

Extraction, implant placement and restoration on the same day is an inviting proposition for both patients and practitioners. The surgery is often simpler and we can achieve the best aesthetic and functional outcome.

• place implants using a simplified protocol

Whether replacing a single tooth or restoring a short span, we can often eliminate patient objections by placing an immediate fixed provisional prosthesis. This simplifies treatment, reduces the number of surgical procedures and shortens total treatment time. And with all the new materials and techniques available, dentists need to know which implant to use, what restoration technique is best, and what material for the abutment and the crown or bridge - porcelain/ alloy, zirconia, CAD/CAM or something else entirely?

Ridge Preservation Strategies Post Tooth Extraction - For Predictable Restorative & Implant Outomes. What to do when teeth fail? Failure of restored teeth is becoming more prevalent within our patient population. Knowing how to offer treatment plans and gain patient approval for selected options is becoming vital part of practice. Patients trust their dentists and would rather be treated ‘in house’, than referred elsewhere; especially when their failing dentition needs urgent attention. You will learn real world techniques that you can immediately take to your practice for atraumatic tooth removal and tissue regeneration. Participants will learn all about the instrumentation and materials necessary to achieve adequate tissue regeneration for either pontic site development or future sites for optimal implant placement. This seminar aims to demonstrate dynamic methods which will maximise patient outcomes as well as a new dynamic, profitable treatment offering for your practice.
