Focus shifts to Delhi CM unwavering, Mickky will have to wait for more time HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, DEC 19
After three days of hectic political activities, the scene will now shift to Delhi tomorrow with Chief Minister Digambar Kamat scheduled to meet the Congress high command to discuss the issue of inducting Benaulim legislator Mickky Pacheco in the cabinet. Kamat is scheduled to attend the All India Congress Committee (AICC) plenary session, in Delhi, wherein he would discuss the issue with Sonia Gandhi. “I am leaving for Delhi tomorrow and will most probably discuss the issue with the party high command,” Kamat told Herald in a telephonic conversation. The NCP through its emissary Prakash Bhinsale yesterday had asked Kamat to drop Jose Philipe D’Souza to make way for Mickky. When asked whether he would take the opportunity to meet the Nationalist Congress

Chief minister to leave for Delhi on Monday. Likely to discuss issue with Sonia Gandhi. No meeting scheduled with Sharad Pawar. Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar in Delhi to discuss the matter, Kamat only said, “Let us see, nothing is scheduled.” “…but if Mr Pawar calls me I will meet him,” he said. Moreover, given the situation and mood in both camps, it looks like Mickky will have to wait for some time to get the ministership as the moves to get him a cabinet berth seem to have slowed down. Some Congress ministers, who have come out in support of Jose and Nilkanth are also set to meet Mrs Gandhi in Delhi tomorrow. Further, sources close to the chief minister have said that he isn’t keen on any change in the
cabinet at this juncture, especially when everything seems to be going well. “Kamat will impress upon Pawar that any change could rock the boat at this stage,” sources said adding “Nonetheless, the decision would remain with Pawar as it is his prerogative whom to recommend for ministership.” Kamat has been firm on his stand that he will take the action only after consulting his high command. Meanwhile after failing to persuade the two ministers Jose and Nilkanth Halarnkar to resign, NCP General Secretary Prakash Bhinsale left for Mumbai on Sunday. NCP’s Goa unit President Surendra Sirsat confirmed that both the ministers were yet to resign and it will take little more time for the induction of Pacheco. After a politically hectic Saturday, Sunday saw a lull in activities with Chief Minister (Continued on page 14)
