STORM BREWING OVER MICKKY INDUCTION Churchill-led Group of 10 threatens to topple govt HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, DEC 22

Giving a new twist to the recent political developments in the State, a dissident group within the Congress party, led by PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, has threatened to topple the Digambar Kamat government, if NCP legislator Mickky Pacheco is inducted into the cabinet. The NCP has asked the chief minister to induct Mickky into the cabinet by dropping Jose Philip D’Souza. The group of 10 Congress legislators, including five ministers, addressing a press conference here took a strong exception to Chief Minister Digambar Kamat’s statement early on Wednesday wherein he said the Benaulim legislator would be inducted once the green signal comes from the Congress high command. Besides Churchill, Education Minister Atanasio Monseratte, Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao, Water Resources Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues, Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar and legislators Agnelo Fernandes, Francis Silveira, Babu Kavlekar, Pandurang Madkaikar and Alexio Reginald Lourenco attended the conference to express their resentment. The group also claimed support of Victoria Fernandes, Pratap Gauns and Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane – who they said could not attend due to some unavoidable reasons. “There is no need for any such decision at this stage especially

Further, he thundered, “even if the Congress and the chief minister go ahead with the decision. We will topple the Kamatled government. The minister however did not specify in what way they will bring down the government whether they will resign from

He replied, â€œâ€Ślet us wait and watch.â€? “We want the Congress High Command to send the General Secretary incharge immediately to Goa, if they want to save the government,â€? All the speakers, including leaders from JD(U), Shiv Sena and Shiromani Akali Dal, made Manmohan Singh the focus of their attack, saying since he is ready to appear before the Public Accounts Committee he should have no objection to deposing before a Joint Parliamentary Committee. “You (the Prime Minister) should form the JPC, answer our questions and if you (PM) cannot

A day after Home Minister Ravi Naik expressed uncertainty on permitting Sunburn festival in Goa, State Tourism Department and tourism stakeholders have offered its support for the threeday event. “Sunburn Goa will be beneficial for the State as it hikes the tourist arrivals. The festival as a brand is catching up, Tourism Director Swapnil Naik said. The electronic music event slated to begin on Candolim beach on December 27 is expected to get some of the biggest names in the electronic music industry. The festival hit controversy after a Bangalore-based girl Meha Bahuguna died due to suspected drug overdose during the event last year. Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) has also given similar opinion stating that the event needs to be promoted as it invites scores of revellers from across the world. “The festival

Claiming there was no threat to his government due to the present political turmoil Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said he will speak to the dissident group and try to sort out their grievances. “I will talk to them and find out what is the problem. They haven’t told me anything as yet and what I am hearing is only through media,â€? Kamat said referring to the statements by Churchill Alemao-led group to topple his government if Mickky is inducted into the cabinet. â€œâ€Ślet me meet them and find out first and then I will convey their sentiments to the high command,â€? Kamat said. Vasco reporter adds: Kamat said NCP is not specific whom to drop from ministry. On his arrival from Delhi on Wednesday afternoon at 1.30 pm, during a brief chat with media, Kamat confirmed that NCP high command has requested him to induct former tourism minister into the cabinet, but NCP high command has failed to specify whom to drop from cabinet. He said that NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel has asked that Mickky should be inducted into the cabinet by dropping any of the ministers from NCP fold, it could be Revenue Min-
