Churchill dares Faleiro, Sardinha HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, SEPT 27
A day after Luizinho Faleiro and Francisco Sardinha made their presence in Benaulim cons t i t u e n c y, P W D M i n i s t e r Churchill Alemao has dared the duo to contest from Benaulim in the next Assembly polls instead of supporting the candidature of aspiring candidates. Reacting to the presence of Luizinho and Sardinha at Colva at the birthday function of South Goa Congress Vice-President, Francis Sequeira, who has disclosed plans to contest from Benaulim, Alemao sought to know why Luizinho and Sardinha are propping other candidates in Benaulim. He dared one of them to contest from Benaulim instead of supporting others as that would make them realise their stand in the constituency. “It appears that Faleiro now thinks that he is above Congress President Sonia Gandhi as he has started assuring tickets to Congress candidates”, he said, adding that
both Luizinho and Sardinha are trying their best to return to State politics and dared them to contest from Benaulim constituency in the coming polls. On Faleiro’s statement that he is opposed to Greater Goa, Alemao said that it was the dream of late Ravindra Kelekar, who had espoused the cause of inclusion of Konkani speaking areas into Goa to make the state Greater Goa. “I have only made (Continued on page 10)

Atala was arrested in March 10, 2010 from a shack at Pernem after the spy-video expose wherein he confessed links with anti-narcotics officials. The video uploaded by his former girlfriend Lucky Farmhouse on youtube.com and metacafe.com, also revealed on how police officials stole narcotics from Mapusa Court to re-sell the same in the market. Says Butt lured him into spot-fixing PTI KARACHI, SEPT 27
Barely five days after the end of their scandal-hit tour of England, fresh turmoil today gripped the Pakistan cricket team with suspended pacer Mohammad Aamir’s shocking revelation that he was lured into spot-fixing by Test skipper Salman Butt. On a day when team manager Yawar Saeed stepped down from his post, the Pakistan Cricket Board was left to do more firefighting in the spot-fixing scandal with the latest revelation. The 18-year-old left-arm pacer was suspended by the ICC for his alleged involvement in spot-fixing during the fourth Test against England at Lord’s last month, along with Butt and Mohammad Asif. PCB sources said Aamir had told chairman Ijaz Butt that he never wanted to be part of this “business” (spot fixing) but was forced into it by Butt and Asif. “Aamir had gone to Butt and
claimed he was innocent and a victim of the “seniors power lobby” in the team,” a source told PTI. But the PCB refuted the reports with legal adviser Tafazzul saying that the implicated players continue to claim innocence. “All three boys have been saying all along that they did not do anything wrong and they stand by it. They claim innocence and complete innocence and nothing but innocence. We
UFOs hovering over US, British N-missile sites! PTI LONDON, SEPT 27
It may sound like a Hollywood science fiction plot, but a group of former US Air Force personnel has claimed that aliens have actually been hovering over American and British nuclear missile sites since 1948. Even, once they had landed at Britain’s Suffolk nuclear base and deactivated the weapons, according to the officers who have announced to go public about their experience related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs). Captain Robert Salas, a former American airman said: “We’re talking about unidentified flying objects, as simple as that. They’re often known as UFOs, you could call them that.” “The US Air Force is lying about the national security implications of unidentified aerial

And the same thing happened at another site a week later. -- Captain Robert Salas (Former American airman) objects at nuclear bases and we can prove it,” he was quoted as saying by Daily Mail. The former officer said he witnessed such an event firsthand on March 16, 1967 at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. He said: “I was on duty when an object came over and hovered directly over the site. The missiles shut down – ten Minuteman (nuclear) missiles. And the same thing happened at another site a week later.
“There’s a strong interest in our missiles by these objects, wherever they come from. I personally think they’re not from planet Earth.” Colonel Charles Halt, another officer, said that he had seen a UFO at RAF Bentwaters, near Ipswich, one of the few bases in the UK to hold nuclear weapons. The sighting is said to have taken place 30 years ago. First he saw the object firing beams of light into the base then heard on the military radio that aliens
In a compromise over the contentious issue of inauguration of Commonwealth Games on Sunday, Prince Charles will declare the Games open while President will say ‘let the Games begin’. Highly placed government sources today said that this compromise has been worked out after arguments between Delhi and London over who would do the honours in the absence of Queen Elizabeth who has decided to skip the Games and instead send Charles as her representative. The Indian side was keen that Patil should inaugurate the Games since she ranked higher in protocol to the Prince. While the Indians were insisting on the President opening the Games, the office of the Prince said he will read the message from the Queen and end it by “declaring the Games open”. “There is no row. Both The Prince of Wales and the President of India will have a promin e n t ro l e i n t h e o p e n i n g ceremony in Delhi. The Queen has asked The Prince of Wales to represent her at the opening of the Commonwealth Games. “We cannot be specific about the choreography but The Prince will read out the Queen’s baton message, ending by declaring the Games open,” a statement from the Clarence House read. The two sides are believed to have reached a compromise under which the Prince will end his statement “declaring the Games open”, while the President will say “let the Games begin”. Sources cited the example of the Commonwealth Games held
had landed inside the nuclear storage area, he said. “I believe that the security services of both the United States and the United Kingdom have attempted – both then and now — to subvert the significance of what occurred at RAF Bentwaters by the use of well-practiced methods of disinformation.” Colonel Halt was among the six former US Air Force officers and one former enlisted man, who have announced to present declassified information which
they claim backs up their findings. They have witness testimony from 120 former or retired military personnel which points to alien intervention at nuclear sites in the US as recently as 2003. In a press conference in Washington, they will urge the authorities to confirm that alien beings have long been visiting Earth. Robert Hastings, who has written on the subject, said that so far the aliens appeared interested in “mere surveillance” but warned they seemed to have gone further in some instances. “At long last, all of these witnesses are coming forward to say that, as unbelievable as it may seem to some, UFOs have long monitored and sometimes tampered with our nukes,” he added.
are holding our investigations back at the moment and we are waiting for the Scotland Yard’s investigation report,” he said. Another source revealed that Aamir, regarded as one of Pakistan cricket’s most promising young talent, had told Saeed about the pressure being exerted on him by Butt. “Aamir’s claim is that he just did what he was told to do. He is claiming innocence now and says he didn’t even know Mazhar Majeed was introduced to him by Butt and Asif,” the source said. Quite a few former Test captains, and even Pakistan’s former President, Pervez Musharraf, have urged the ICC to show leniency towards Aamir, all of 18 and the quickest to take 50 wickets in Test cricket. But chief selector Mohsin Khan said that he didn’t agree with the viewpoint that Aamir should be shown leniency because of his age.
Government sources said that the compromise has been worked out after arguments between Delhi and London over who would do the honours in the absence of Queen Elizabeth who has decided to skip the Games and instead send Charles as her representative. in Malaysia in 1998 where the Queen was represented by a Royal family member and the Malaysian King opened the Games. Likewise, India, sources said, feels that since the Queen would not be present here and only the Prince would be representing her, the President should have the honour of opening the Games as she is ahead in protocol. Charles is attending the Games as a representative of Queen Elizabeth II, the ceremonial head of the Commonwealth who will give the event a miss for the first time in 44 years. Earlier, a British tabloid quoted some of the officials of the Indian Department of Information as saying that the Indian President would open the Games. The Queen’s Baton Relay has acted as the curtain-raiser to every Games since Cardiff in 1958. It involves the Baton being sent off by the Queen, then carried through each Commonwealth nation until it is passed back to the Monarch as her message to the athletes is ready out at the opening.
