Detox Strategies for Cleansing Best Herbs for Spring Garden Success with Salvestrols Powerful Dreams Lead to Healing 12 Rules for Lasting Relationships
www.herbalcollective.ca
Best Ways to Cleanse It’s a lovely spring day as I write this. The sun is shining and the birds are chirping. Publisher’s Note
Spring is a great time to detox and cleanse the body as well as your surroundings. We can cleanse the body with herbs and natural supplements but there are other way to cleanse too. We have an article on cleansing with essential oils, a spring detox retreat to try at Honeymoon Bay Retreat, how homeopathy helps with cleansing, a liver cleanse, cleansing our body with ‘electrons,’ and detoxifying from mercury amalgams. We can also cleanse our emotions and our relationships. Spring is a new beginning in many ways so it’s also a time when people seek new relationships or look at ways to spruce up existing relationships. In this issue we feature several interviews with women who have written books of interest to our readers. One interview features Janice Hoffman, who worked with author John Gray of the book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.

She shares her rules for good relationships and how relationships affect our health in both negative and positive ways. We also feature another relationship expert Jill Crosby, of Planet Earth Singles. She started this website as a way for consciously and environmentally minded singles to find someone to connect with on their wavelength. Let’s face it – people who are activists, have strict diets, support environmental groups, perhaps use herbs and natural supplements and do other things that some people consider ‘weird’ can find it hard to meet someone. If your idea of a hot date is sharing a green smoothie at the organic juice bar with a kale salad, it can be difficult finding someone on the same wavelength. Another interview features Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos who had prophetic dreams foretelling her she had cancer even though doctors could find no evidence. This happened not once but three times!! Her story will fascinate and inspire you and she also wrote a book about it. Another book that relates to cancer is author Brian Schaefer’s new book on Salvestrols-Journeys to Wellness. This book relates the case studies of several people with various forms of cancer who used salvestrols. You will be amazed at their stories. Also, women who have emotional ups and down during peri-menopause and menopause will appreciate the advice from author Jean Gerson-Greer to stay calm. As a psychic, she helps people find clarity, calmness and balance in their lives. She even told me to take a deep breath while interviewing her! It’s also a great time to plant herbs for the spring garden. Discover some interesting herbs to spruce up your garden to enjoy throughout the year. I hope you enjoy this issue. Happy Easter and happy spring.

12 Rules for Relationships that Last
J
anice Hoffman is telling the story of how one woman kept trying to tell her husband what she needed in the relationship. “She told her husband, ‘you don’t pay attention to me, you don’t take me out,” relates Hoffman, author of Relationship Rules, 12 Strategies for Creating a Love that Lasts, JaniceHoffman.com The woman’s husband never listened so finally the woman left him. It’s just one example of what can go wrong in relationships and how that affects the health of both men and women. “It totally affects your health,” says Hoffman, who worked with John Gray and the Gray Venus Institute in the late 1990s. Hoffman initially called John Gray’s office when his book Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, came out in 1993. She wanted to start a support group and was thrilled at being called 2 ½ years later to start training as a facilitator. “So I jumped at the opportunity,” she relates. “I fell in love with the material, the group. It’s really a philosophy, it has boundaries and corners. The people that wanted to be facilitators and counselors were awesome people. It was just a wonderful, wonderful group.” 4

When Gray shut things down years later, Hoffman became inspired to write her book and teach others what she learned. “I realized there were things I could say that he couldn’t because he’s a man and I’m a woman,” she relates. Her book Relationship Rules is a guidepost for both men and women to learn how to communicate better and have healthier relationships as a result. Men and women experience and relieve stress in different ways. Most women want to talk about what’s bothering them without necessarily having it fixed. “Women enjoy the details – it’s the act of having our words pass through our lips to a kind and receptive audience,” says Hoffman. To them that’s emotional support. Yet when men are asked the definition of emotional support, “he doesn’t know,” says Hoffman. “We have to educate them on what that means – don’t make it a guessing game. Women can’t go to their girlfriends as much as they used to.” For men, talking about what’s bothering them would be reliving it which they associate with pain. “For them, they relieve stress by disassociating from it,” says Hoffman. “Women struggle with this because they don’t know how that can be true.” The ‘man cave’ becomes an important stress reliever for men. So for women giving men time alone in their man cave is important. For men, realizing that women need to vent about their problems is an important step. Hoffman says one of the rules couples should follow is to avoid a No go zone. A ‘No go’ zone occurs when couples get too emotionally distraught about communicating on important topics so they avoid the topic altogether. “Too many no go zones create distance and couples separate,” says Hoffman. “So they say we grew apart.” Having respect for each other is also a critically important rule in relationships. “Respect is something that is waning in our world,” notes Hoffman. But she says men thrive on respect and are more motivated to please their partner when they are respected. “So if his head swells a bit, let it swell,” says Hoffman. “If it helps you get what you want, let it swell.” Her guideline for telling women how to be happy with their man is simple.
“When you want something from a man, recall a time that made you happy. Remind him and say, “I would really love it if you did this again,” explains Hoffman. It’s about helping both partners achieve what they want so it could be as simple as showing more affection. This will also help a woman be healthier as women produce less serotonin and use it much more quickly than men. Serotonin is the ‘feel good’ hormone so raising serotonin levels improves one’s overall health. “There’s things he can do to help her produce serotonin in her body,” says Hoffman. “If he just touched and showed caring in a nonsexual way that produces serotonin.” Affectionate touching also releases oxytocin, known as the ‘cuddle hormone,’ which occurs when we feel love, trust and comfort. Raising serotonin levels puts women more in touch with their feminine side, so nurturing activities are really important. “That’s why women go ‘awe’ when they see puppies or kittens, it puts them in touch with their feminine side,” explains Hoffman. Having girlfriends over or hanging out with girlfriends is important for a woman’s as its’ very bonding. “Women are lacking that nowadays because we are so busy,” says Hoffman. “Women have moved way too far on the masculine side. I believe it’s very important to hang on to our femininity not just for our relationships but for our health.” It is widely believed that a serotonin deficiency leads to
depression, so depressed women are getting drugs to raise their serotonin levels. However nurturing feminine activities such as going for a walk with girlfriends, doing hair, makeup or nails can also make a difference. A lack of serotonin may be why many women have carbohydrate cravings as a sugary treat triggers the release of serotonin. But carbs are a quick fix and do nothing for lasting serotonin production. Men score negative points that lead to resentment or positive points that lead to a healthier relationship. “It’s the little things that count,” says Hoffman, noting that women are often subconsciously adding up a man’s actions. “At any given moment a woman will take what her partner gives, says or does and add them all together and that is a measure of how much he cares in that moment,” says Hoffman. Women get more points from their partner when she lets him off the hook, even if he screwed up – and appreciates him for what he does. Hoffman is currently working on another book called Relationship Rules for Getting Along with Your Ex and points out that those who have children have a moral obligation to get along with their ex. Essential Oils for
Cleansing
I
n our modern society we are constantly being exposed to a wide variety of things that are potentially or actually harmful to our bodies, including Genetically Modified foods, pesticide residues, chemicals and more. Due to the chemicals present Health Canada has determined that fully 60% of Canadian homes fail indoor air quality measurements! Doing cleanses is important. Ensuring that our food, water and home environments provide a less toxic exposure is equally important. Why needlessly risk our health between cleanses? Some toxins are natural, such as dust mite feces. Unlike other mammals we tend to sleep in the same bed and sit on the same furniture for many years. Do regularly vacuum beds outside –more often for those suffering from asthma or other breathing problems. Consider a high-quality air filtration system or a heat recovery ventilator. If our homes don’t breathe, neither do we. Most problematic sources are synthetic chemicals that accumulate in our homes and bodies. The

healthiest people live in the healthiest places, starting with our homes. They need to breathe (a problem with most newer homes). Moulds must be removed (see http://www.shorewellness.ca/detox-your-home/ moisture-problems/). Stop using toxic cleansers and soaps (including most liquid hand soaps), and avoid commercial toothpastes and other harmful personal products (see more at http://www.shorewellness.ca/ improve-wellness/personal-health/). Thankfully our bodies are made amazingly well. We naturally shed most of these toxins day by day through our lungs, excrement, sweat and breath. Keeping our immune system robust –most of which is found in our guts– is key. Thus it is extremely important that we eat well, drink well, sleep well, and get enough exercise. All of these contribute to a healthy immune system and our body’s natural abilities to cleanse.
Cleansing with Water and Lemon The most important component to any cleanse is drinking enough water and other healthy fluids. No cleansing program is as important as this. That water needs to include the key minerals of magnesium (vital for heart health) and calcium especially, but iron and zinc and other trace minerals are also helpful. Such water is also likely alkaline –good for you. Every cleansing program claims to be “the best.” As is true of virtually everything, some methods and products work better with some people than with
Roman Chamomile, Rosemary, Thyme, Melaleuca.... others. It is most important to make sure that when you do a cleanse you don’t end up allowing those toxins to circulate and do damage to other parts of your body. A number of therapeutic grade essential oils (not usually found in health food stores) are helpful. There are a number of plants and their essential oils that are helpful to promote a cleanse. Let’s begin with lemon. The best part of a lemon is its rind, so it must be organic to avoid the pesticide residues. For fun try freezing it and grate into salads, soups and other foods for some natural cleansing. To make it into a non-food cleanse you can combine about 2 Tbs. of a fresh lemon (grind the peel and all) with 1 Tbs. maple syrup (grade B has more nutrients) or molasses and 1/10 tsp cayenne pepper into 10 ounces of alkaline water. Drink between 3-4 quarts of this lemonade each day with a herbal laxative tea first thing in the morning and just before bed-time.
Some other Helpful Essential Oils:
• Roman Chamomile is a blood cleanser and helps the liver to discharge toxins (rather than let those toxins get absorbed back into your body) • Rosemary cineol helps balance the heart f unction, stimulate nerves and decongest the liver • Thyme is an anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiseptic and an antiviral • Melaleuca is an antifungal, antiseptic, antibacterial and helps tissue to regenerate. These four oils combined with the herbs used by Chief Sundance for cleaning the blood have been combined by Young Living, called Rehemagen™ Tincture. Fennel, hyssop, juniper, melaleuca and blends called Melrose™, Di-Gize™ and Release™ are also recommended. Because most cleansing methods can have the rather nasty side-effects, quite apart from usually having to stop eating regular meals, I really appreciate the power and the gentleness of the Raindrop Technique.™ Applying the oils of thyme, oregano, cypress, wintergreen (or birch), basil, pepermint, marjoram, and one or more oils or blends according to need, these oils are applied on one’s feet and back using
eastern and native techniques that release toxins gently and reprogram the cells so that they function correctly. It is more like a spa than a cleanse! If it were not for this powerful technique I strongly suspect I would have had to give up everything I owned and live in poverty two years ago. I was quickly losing energy, focus, ability to sleep, and more. Only this method was able to bring me back to full health. Besides detoxifying the body the Raindrop technique balances the body’s energies. It also can reduce spinal inflammations and kill viruses that hibernate along the spinal column. Many participants also note that they will grow a little taller –up to ¾ of an inch– in their initial session. Now that’s a cleanse unlike any other! While the western world seeks the magic pill and quick solutions the old English saying is still true: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Taking care to provide a better environment and immune system is more important than is doing a cleanse. Powerful Dreams Lead to Healing
By Marilyn Zink persistent dream can often mean something really important. This was true for Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos, a three time breast cancer survivor and author of a new book about it, www.Surviving Cancerland.com Her story is one of persistence and belief in something intangible that became tangible. “I suspected I had cancer 3 different times and the medical community missed it each time with their medical tests and exams,” says Kathleen. Her story is a wake-up call that people and women in particular need to pay stronger attention to their intuition.
A
In late 1999 O’Keefe-Kanavos had her yearly mammogram and even though doctors told her she was healthy and to go home, she suspected something was wrong. Yet she had these recurring nightmares and in her dream a figure that looked like a Franciscan monk took her hand and put it on her breast and said ‘do you feel that?’ The monk gave her a white feather 8

as a symbol for her to stand up for herself and give her courage when she needed to speak with her doctor. O’Keefe-Kanavos, who was 44 at the time, approached her doctor and demanded more testing. At first her doctor said no. But then he relented when he saw how convinced O’Keefe’-Kanavos was, even though it was just before New Year’s. The doctors discovered a lump and immediately called in an oncologist. “As soon as they saw how aggressive the cancer was, they got me into treatment,” says O’Keefe-Kanavos. “Once I was healed enough I started chemotherapy. They call it the Purple Death. You lose all your hair, some people lose their fingernails and toenails.” O’Keefe-Kanavos was told not to brush her teeth due to a high bacteria count and many people experience bleeding gums as a result. In her dreams she was told to brush her teeth with a toothbrush dipped in hydrogen peroxide, which she did and had healthy gums. Her chemotherapy treatment last 4 months and she also had 36 treatments of radiation. The doctors told her not to take any supplements during the treatment, as they didn’t want to encourage cancer cells to grow. “At the same time, there’s a line that you can’t recover as the treatments will kill you quicker than the cancer,” says O’Keefe-Kanavos. So she started drinking organic juice every morning on her way to radiation treatment. “I would get a shot of wheatgrass and hold it in my mouth for 30 seconds,” relates O’Keefe-Kanavos. As if all the cancer treatments weren’t enough, she was put on Tamoxifen after radiation as she was pre-menopausal.
“Tamoxifen keeps the estrogen levels so low that the cancer won’t grow,” says O’Keefe-Kanavos. Doctors need to check that the levels are correct as the drug can stop working after two years. However, this didn’t happen with O’KeefeKanavos and her cancer came back after five years.
She had mammograms but “I knew I had something,” says O’KeefeKanavos. “I said I need to have MRI’s done.” “I was having the nightmares again. IHer recurring dreams came back and in her dreams her ‘guides’ told her to tell the doctor where to look. Getting the MRI was against hospital policy but O’Keefe-Kanavos was persistent. “It took me 4 ½ months to get an MRI and I was in stage 4 cancer,” she said. She went through all the treatments again – chemo, CMF, radiation. But then in another dream she was
told to look at the other breast . So O’Keefe-Kanavos demanded a double mastectomy but her Boston doctors refused. So she went to New York where doctors there did an MRI to discover the cancer was in the other breast and performed the double mastectomy. That was in 2004 and O’Keefe-Kanavos went through chemotherapy, radiation, a double mastectomy and had expanders added, which is breast reconstruction. “It was very difficult and took a very long time but I knew I had to do it,” she says. During this time she continued to look after her health. “I did juicing all the time” she says. “I changed my diet and stick with it pretty much. I only eat organic foods, organic milk. I eat better and I get hungry less often. Organic food nourishes you so you get hungry less often. O’Keefe-Kanavos says what she’s learned from her experience is that often there are no symptoms with breast cancer. Her breasts were also dense which makes it difficult for mammograms to detect something is wrong. “It just wasn’t showing up which happens to a lot of women,” she explained. A lot of times you have no idea you are having breast cancer. By the time you have pain, it’s too late.,” If a woman suspects something is wrong, she needs to tell her doctors.
“I suspected I had cancer 3 different times and the medical community missed it each time with their medical tests and exams,”.... “Women have to stand in their power and speak their truth,” says O’Keefe-Kanavos. She says cancer can be precipitated by life events. She was grieving the death of her mother when she got breast cancer the first time. Her mother had colon cancer and had symptoms for 4 years. O’Keefe-Kanavos encourages women to listen to their sixth sense or intuition, to be advocates to make things happen. O’Keefe-Kanavos is now cancer free for 10 years and lives happily with her husband. She says she hadn’t planned on writing a book but her goal is to make a difference. She will be making a presentation with Dr. Larry Burke at the International Association for the Study of Dreams, IASD, June4-8 in Berkeley, Ca and in late May in Manhatten at the Book Expo America. “It’s taken quite a while for the book to get out but the timing is incredible.” O’Keefe-Kanavos is also working on a second book loosely titled Surviving Recurrence-Pearls of Wisdom in Dreams to be followed by a third titled Survivor to Thriver. This third book would show patients how to get out of the rat race of perpetual patient to transition to a normal life again. For more see www.SurvivingCancerland.com.

Success with Salvestrols
T
welve funerals in three years from cancer. That’s what Brian Schaefer, author of the new book Salvestrols, Journeys to Wellness, experienced that lead him on the path to cancer researchers in the U.K. This subsequently led him to investigate the plant compounds known as salvestrols in fighting cancer. Salvestrols, Journeys to Wellness, is the story of case studies of cancer patients who have used salvestrols to treat their conditions. The case studies cover a wide section of cancers: anal, bladder, breast, colon, leukaemia, liver, lung, lymphoma, melanoma, peritoneal and prostate. The case studies also represent a wide section of people from different countries, both genders and a cross section of ages from 36 to 94. All of these people achieved remission. The book is divided into sections that cover 11 types of cancer case studies , a study follow-up, a chapter on ‘When are we well? and a chapter on the need for better diagnostics. Salvestrols are “THE MOST SIGNIFICANT BREAKTHROUGH IN NUTRITION SINCE THE DISCOVERY OF VITAMINS.” ....Professor Dan Burke “There has to be a significant change in the way that we approach food, in the way we grow food and the way that we see our diet.” Anthony Daniels

The book shows some amazing transformations in the patients who took Salvestrol capsules. One woman who was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer started taking Salvestrols right after her first chemotherapy session and by the third session the radiologist could find no trace of her tumours, which were previously two palpable lumps. She was in remission for 27 months. Another woman who had colorectal cancer took an aggressive approach with Salvestrols and achieved remission for 69 months and is now in good health. A 69-year-old man with prostate cancer took Salvestrol capsules and achieved remission for 79 months, defeating cancer twice and is now in good health. Interestingly, some people achieved results within 1-3 months while others took longer. Patients who remained in remission the longest continued to take Salvestrols as a follow-up. Schaefer concludes that based on the responses of the people in the group, it would be wise for people to start taking Salvestrols after even a hint of cancer. “The rapidity of response of many of these people has driven home the point that upon even the slightest hint of cancer, an individual would be wise to start taking Salvestrols, shifting their diet towards more consumption of fruit and vegetables, and making some lifestyle changes that include a bit of daily exercise. There are enough of these individuals responding quickly and dramatically than an early embracing of these changes could spare a person from more aggressive interventions that can come with their own risks and concerns.” Schaefer is also the author of Salvestrols, Nature’s Defence Against Cancer, his first book that can be accessed through www.salvestrolbook.com. References for his current work can also be accessed through the Health Action Network Society, www.hans.org, www.carebiotech.com, Canadian Association of Holistic Nutrition Professionals and many others.

Cilantro Chelation Pesto 4 cloves garlic 1/3 cup brazil nuts (selenium) 1/3 cup sunflower seeds (cysteine) 1/3 pumpkin seeds (zinc, magnesium) 2 cups packed fresh cilantro (coriander, Chinese parsley, vitamin A) 2/3 cup flax sees oil 4 tablespoon lemon juice (vitamin C) 2 teaspoon dulse powder Himalayan crystal and/or sea salt
Heavy metal poisoning is rampant. It is a major factor causing hormonal imbalances, cancer, thyroid problems, neurological disturbances, learning problems, food allergies, parasites etc. The recipe for cilantro chelation pesto is not only easy to make but also really yummy, and it tells you how to remove metals from the body and here is the recipe:
Method: Process the cilantro and flax seed in a blender until the coriander is chopped. Add the garlic, nuts and seeds, dulse powder and lemon juice and mix until the mixture is finely blended into a paste. Consider doing this cleanse for three weeks at least once a year. The pesto is delicious on toast, baked potatoes, and pasta. It has been proven to chelate toxic metals from the body in a relative short period of time. Two teaspoons daily for three weeks is enough to increase urinary excretion of mercury, lead and aluminum. This recipe courtesy of herbalist and health educator Klaus Ferlow. See article on page 22 for information on detoxifying from mercury amalgams and heavy metals.

How to Focus Effectively
M
y daughter has some important Flower exams coming up Remedies soon, and she needs to review By Sarah Brune, BFRP two years of school work. Unfortunately the exams count for most of the mark. On the walls of her room, my daughter has pinned up various helpful study hints i.e. healthy foods to eat, an exam timetable and a study schedule. As a teenage is it hard to knuckle down to studying when you can be distracted by checking email, facebook, and the reality that these exams can shape your future . To assist with the studying and without trying to be too interfering (a fine line with a teenager) I suggested that she made up a remedy mix to help. The suggested mix was: Hornbeam, Clematis, Elm, Larch, Gentian and Rescue Remedy. Hornbeam is the remedy for those who procrastinate, and do trivial fun things instead of the important matter at hand (studying). The day’s work can

be done with a clear head and can be properly balanced with fun activities. Clematis is for the daydreamer who finds it hard to concentration on the here and now. This remedy helps with controlled thoughts and the ability to concentrate on the pending task. When you are feeling overwhelmed by the workload, Elm is the remedy to consider. This remedy assists with efficiency and self-assurance that the task can be done. Larch is for lack of self-confidence, for those who will not even try because they are certain they are sure to fail. The positive potential of Larch helps one to be feel determined and unworried about the outcome. For those feeling discouraged or despondent with the amount of studying that has to be done Gentian is an option. It assists with helping the student to feel that no task is too daunting and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Rescue Remedy is useful to have on hand for the stressed out student. It can help you to face the situation in a better frame of mind, and will help to reduce your fear and nervousness. It contains: Impatiens (keeps you calm), Star of Bethlehem (neutralizes trauma), Cherry Plum (restores balance), Rock Rose (restores courage and a peace of mind), and Clematis (keeps you focused). It can be taken as often as necessary before a stressful event and will provide comfort and reassurance. Rescue Remedy often brings an immediate effect that will put you back in control. Of course everyone is different so it depends on their personality, and present circumstances. Simply take four drops of the remedy mix four times a day and see what happens… Sarah Brune is a Bach Foundation Registered Practitioner, author and educator, and has her Bach Flower practice in the Comox Valley. Can Homeopathy Protect Against Toxins? By Colin Gillies ll of us are aware that we are exposed to an ever increasing barrage of toxic substances from air pollutants; chemicals such as pesticides and food additives; heavy metals such as mercury, lead, etc.; pollution through air waves from electromagnetic devices such as microwaves, cell phones, smart meters, etc.

William A. Turner, Stanford University, illustrates the key difference in these two levels of medical understanding using the following example. It is well known that placing colloidal particles of silver into a beaker of water that contains bacteria will kill the bacteria. What is not well known is that placing these colloidal silver particles in a nearby gas discharge tube, and focusing the electromagnetic emissions from the tube onto the beaker, will also kill the bacteria. Thus, physical contact between the bacteria and the silver is not a necessary condition for killing these bacteria. Via this simple example we see that it is the specific information energetic pattern inherent in the silver atom and not the physical contact that is killing the bacteria. It is not widely appreciated within the chemistry-based medical paradigm that profound changes in the body can Continued page 17
Unusual Herbs for Spring Garden By Marilyn Zink tarting a spring herb garden can be a richly rewarding experience. It’s exciting to plan how your herb garden will look Even if you already have an herb garden, sprucing it up with new spring plants will add to its appeal. Think beyond the basic culinary herbs to add to your gardens appeal and usefulness. Then you will be thrilled when you have something different to harvest. You can start many herbs from seeds sown in small containers and grown indoors until ready to set outside. Or you can buy starter plants at your local nursery.
S
Unusual Culinary Herbs Many people grow the common culinary herbs like rosemary, oregano, thyme, parsley, sage, etc. Here are some culinary herbs to try that will give a different flavor to your dishes. Chocolate Mint – this is a mint that smells like peppermint patty. It makes an excellent addition to tea (hot or cold), mixed drinks and desserts. Keep mint in a container sunk in the ground as this species can be invasive. Lemon thyme – with a wonderful lemony scent and flavor, this herb gives just the right lemon flavor to herbal tea, desserts and anywhere
known to attract hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. It prefers well drained soils. Its flavor makes an excellent dip for fresh bread paired with sesame seeds and sea salt in olive oil. Lavender – Try a different species like Spanish lavender and grow in a border for a stunning addition to your herb garden. Catmint – Cats love the taste of the leaves though its purple blooms make a great border plant. It grows fast and large with long lasting flowers so give it plenty of room. else a bit of lemon is needed. Chervil- often compared to parsley, this herb has a more delicate slightly anise flavor. This is an annual herb that likes sun and warm weather. Caraway – the seeds of this plant are often used in baking like homemade rye breads and also sauerkraut. Growing it to harvest your own fresh seeds will provide a different taste sensation.

Simple Liver Nourishment ‘Cleanse’
L
iver Nourishment is important. We hear much about doing liver cleanses but is the liver really dirty? I am certain I would prefer to think of my liver in a more positive and health giving way. This amazing, large organ does much to filter my blood, digest my food, and contributes to way too many bodily processes to write them all here. Love your liver; nourish your liver. I will share with you a very simple way to nourish the liver as it goes about its non-stop job of filtering your blood. Spending a few days focusing on nourishing this important organ is a good way to prevent disease and heal your body. Love your liver with whole foods, liver specific herbs, and relaxation. While relaxing, visualize your liver as being healthy, clean, vibrant tissue!
1. Raw food fast for 3 days: Eat local, seasonal berries and fruit in the AM. Add raw nuts and seeds to this fruit to up the fat and protein content of your diet and keep your appetite satiated. At lunch and your PM meal: eat raw vegetable salads and raw nuts and seeds. Get motivated and sprout some raw nuts and seeds or whole grains to add to your liver nourishing diet. Try raw, fermented veggies as a fun, “extra” food while nourishing the liver. Enjoy raw avocado as healthy fat and satiating food. Holistic Love Your Blood Sugar & Beta Cells Caution: If you are pre-diabetic, diabetic, or have any metabolic syndrome – blood sugar issue, keep your intake of fruit at a conservative level and eat more vegetables, nuts, and seeds.

If you have diabetic tendencies do not do a “juice or herbal tea only” liver cleanse. Raw root veggie and cabbage slaws are great in fall and winter for the raw, seasonal veggies. Want a recipe? Email me: pyoumell@gmail.com
2.AM or PM Nourishing Liver Flush: Drink this tasty little beverage before eating any food; just mix together and drink it up! Or you can drink it just before going to bed. • juice of 1 whole lemon, (I know, lemons are not local… work with me here!) • 1-2 tsp olive oil, • pinch of unrefined sea salt You can use this simple liver flush in the PM and/or the AM. I have clients who drink it in the AM because they drink their Essiac detox tea at night.
3.Detox Liver Nourishing Infusion: Purchase an ounce of each of these herbs: cut burdock root, cut dandelion root, nettle leaf, dandelion leaf, red clover blossom. Every evening heat 1 quart of water. When the water is simmering, turn to very, low heat and simmer 1 Tbsp. each of the burdock and dandelion roots for 10 minutes. Be gentle, not a rolling boil, but a very, gentle simmer to preserve the nutrients. Always simmer and steep with the cover on the pot. Have 1 Tbsp. each of the dandelion, nettle, and red clover ready to use. After the ten minutes, shut off the heat and add the herbs to the pot, stir to get the herbs wet, and then cover the pot. Let it sit over night to steep and create a medicinal infusion. In the AM, strain the herbal infusion into a quart canning jar. Press the wet herb mash very well to get all liquid out of the herbs. Drink 3-4 cups over the course of the day. Sip slowly while relaxing and meditating on your liver and vibrant cellular health. (As opposed to standing at the kitchen counter and guzzling down 8 ounces of this
medicinal tea infusion.)
Relaxing habits when doing a liver nourishing cleanse:
Drink plenty of fluids throughout your day; get much good, restful sleep; always eat in a calm environment (without screens) and chew very slowly and thoroughly; yoga; massage; relaxing by the fire or under a favorite tree (this is a seasonally dependent behavior!) while reading a good book…the point is for you to nurture the whole you and make your liver feel at peace and loved. Get outside and move your body. This increases circulation to your liver and every body cell for better delivery of nutrition and oxygen and better removal of waste products. You get a good dose of fresh air and natural light while outside! And remember, as my son Eli said when he was only 8 years old: “Just lift the corner of the clouds and the sun is always shining." You do get natural light, for better mood and sleep, even on cloudy days!
When to nourish the liver:
Ideally, nourish your liver 4 times a year: at the spring and fall equinoxes and the summer and winter solstices. I recommend doing the winter liver nourishment after the December holidays, for obvious reasons! Milk thistle is a good herb to take for liver nourishing and rebuilding. It can be added to the above liver nourishment herb infusion. Using milk thistle in capsules, tinctures, and infusion form are also good options as a single herb or as a combination herbal formula with turmeric and perhaps ginger… Taking milk thistle for a couple of weeks after a three day nourishing cleanse can help to nourish and rebuild the liver. You can make milk thistle into a medicinal infusion mixing with stinging nettles. Again, simmer the milk thistle seeds, very gently for 10 minutes, shut off heat and add the nettle leaves. Let the infusion “tea” sit overnight to brew and steep. Liver cleansing / nourishing has benefits for your health and longevity. Think of it as nourishing your liver, fortifying it with the nutrients it needs to do its blood filtering, digestive, and many other jobs well. Paula M. Homeopathy From page 14 be triggered d through precision medicines medicines, which act as signals on energetic aspects of our human physiology. Because immune and detoxifying organs charged with combating biological and chemical assaults possess these energetic aspects too, they are able to be turned on by these signals and act against specific noxious agents promptly and efficiently. Based upon this principle, homeopathic ‘digital vaccines’ and antidotes can be produced against any toxic agent. It was postulated that homeopathic remedies may confer disease resistance by inducing a chronic immune stress response. This effect closely resembles that of conventional vaccines, where the immune stress response is known to elicit long-lasting effects. Another hypothesis concerns the ‘gating theory’, whereby cells that have become stimulated by the homeopathic energetic created immune related response become “deaf” to the actions of offending agents. From this perspective, if a homeopathic isode engages the cells in a communication process, the result will be a partial or complete cellular disengagement from the pathological connection with the corresponding disease producing agent(s). Because we humans are open living systems, we are constantly subjected to many incoming messages or inputs of diverse nature: emotional, nutritional, atmospherical, toxicological and biological. Therefore, we cannot maintain our physiology in a fixed state because it must oscillate constantly in response to these inputs. In health, these fluctuations tend to remain closer to order than chaos. Under the impact of adverse inputs, a given body function or system begins to move toward disorder and, if not redirected, approaches a point of bifurcation (i.e., a “fork in the road”). This reflects a condition of a precarious state where the affected system or function becomes increasingly likely to lose its state of normalcy and transform into a state of pathology. It has been determined that, while at a bifurcation point, a system will become increasingly sensitive to even the weakest oscillatory signals. If that signal has a special meaning for a system’s needs at the time, the system will respond with movement back toward order. Colin Gillies is a homeopath in Qualicum Beach, B.C. Cleanse Your Body ‘Electrons’
O
ld age and degeneration have never been natural attributes of life. The appearance of our physical body is determined by the amount of light that is carried within the body, the emotional, the mental, etheric, and physical body. The natural emanation of light through these body systems forms the protecting wall referred to as the tube of light around us. We are all composed of electrical electrons. When the electrons move slowly in their particular organs and cells, they draw less light from our higher Self, and then there is a natural resistance, and the light stream starts to grow weaker. How much vitality we are going to start feeling has to do with how fast the electrons can spin in our body. The more toxins we have and the less light we hold, the slower the electrons spin. This encourages old age, disease, misalignment and malfunction of our organs, glands and systems, and eventually of our whole body to experience aging. We have to learn to keep ourselves and everything we do in our physical lives, in our mental attitude and our emotional bodies totally clear of negativity. There are many tools that we can use to keep our electrons spinning at the speed that can keep our bodies always young and beautiful. Getting more distorted in the body, losing vitality
and starting to look older is not a divine attribute, but a distortion. We would like to encourage you to start thinking in terms of vitality to start reversing aging and to make you glow. Can you imagine if every cell, atom and electron in our body were to start glowing with vitality, we would become luminous and radiant. Our bodies would take on the form of the exquisite beauty of our divine Self! Eliminating foods that do not support our body and removing the toxins from within our body is the first step. Feeding our body with wholesome and mostly raw food is the second step. Many of our foods are nutritionally deficient unless the foods are grown in nutrient rich soils, are organic and GMO free. The third step is to supplement with ultra powerful enzymes, proteolytic probiotics, raw utilizable protein and absorbable minerals and vitamins. Cooked food is enzyme deficient and most nutrients are destroyed by excessive heat. How to Handle Changes in Life
W
hen women are going through a change of life, it can be a soul searching time.
It’s a time when many women are also looking for clarity in love, relationships and money says author and psychic Jean Gerson-Greer, who helps women and men to adjust to changes in their life whatever they may be. “Change is frightening to the body, says GersonGreer, who went through an early menopause at age 35 while teaching school in New York City. “We have to learn to talk to the body. During hormonal changes it’s important to stay calm, says Gerson-Greer. We go through it (menopause) hormonally and it changes our entire perspective. Gerson-Greer didn’t want to take synthetic hormones. So she turned to natural products. “I know I was drinking a lot of green tea then and herbal tea of different varieties to keep me calm. Keeping calm during often frightening changes in the body can make a difference in relationships too, says Gerson-Greer.“It also happens to men, she says. “In a very close relationship the men react too. A woman going through emotional and physical changes reacts in a way that upsets her relationship because her man doesn’t understand what she is going through. Old issues surface and when these problems escalate, “that also causes a split in relationships. “They go through their own menopause and look for a younger relationship, says Gerson-Greer. She says this also results from a man’s fear in his own mortality so he acts out by seeking a younger relationship. “The men in our western society are so afraid of dying. For women the message is to learn to communicate with herself and know when to share her issues with other women. “There are definite times when we women need to go to women, says Gerson-Greer. Getting things ‘off her chest’ by sharing what she is going through can make a huge difference. Learn to control hormonal imbalances by loving yourself. When you look in the mirror and say ‘I love me,’ it puts a whole different perspective on things, says Gerson-
Greer. “Do this and love yourself. Until you do this, you can’t love any one else. She adds. “If you have a pet, hold that pet close to your heart and know you are getting unconditional love. Gerson-Greer is the author of the books Beyond-Science Fiction Fantasy for Children of All Ages, All That Matters – a mystery novel and Confessions of a Silent Psychic. A part-time actress who played the part of the ‘Naked Neighbours on ABC’s Ugly Betty series which aired 2006-2010.

How to Detoxify from Mercury Amalgams By Klaus Ferlow ince Roman times cilantro (the other name is coriander) has been used as food and medicine. A study by Dr. Yoshiaki Omura from the Heart Disease Research Foundation, New York, N.Y. has discovered that the herb cilantro will detoxify mercury from neural tissue and is used to help stimulate the appetite and relieves minor digestive irritation.
S
This a remarkable discovery. It is a novel technique, which greatly increases our ability to clear-up recurring infections, both viral and bacterial. Bioactive cilantro blend (coriander-yellow herbal tincture) is an inexpensive, easy way to remove or chelate toxic metals from the nervous system and body tissues. Cilantro blend contains yellow dock to help drain the mercury from the connective tissue. Little is known about the origins of the coriander plant, although it is generally thought to be a native to the Mediterranean and parts of Southwestern Europe. Experts believe its use dates back to at least 5000 BC. References to coriander can be found in the Sanskrit writings, and the seeds were often placed in Egyptian tombs. Today, cilantro is cultivated in tropical and subtropical countries throughout the world. Yellow dock has been known as a medicinal plant since ancient times, and has been used as laxative or mild astringent tonic. In the nineteenth century, it was considered a blood purifier and was prescribed for eruptive diseases, such as scrofula, and skin problems. The cilantro blend is working through increasing the ability of the liver and related organs to filter and purify the blood and lymph system. It achieves it tonic properties through astringent purification of the blood supply to the glands and act as a cleansing herb for the lymphatic system Are there any other alternatives to detoxify? Chlorella algae is the main agent used in the detoxification process which have been proven to bind with and remove toxic metals from the body. Take chlorella supplements at your highest comfortable tolerance for the first eight days with meals dividing it into small doses throughout the day. On day nine and ten take ten times the usual dose, but not more than 60 capsules in a single day. Day 11 and 12 are a “rest period and no chlorella should be taken these days. The following day, begin the 12 day cycle again. Also a high protein diet is essential to mercury detoxification and include vitamin C, E, magnesium, thioctic acid and N-acetyl-cysteine. 22 Herbal Collective AprilMay,’14
A herbal milk thistle combo tincture can also work very well. Cleansing the liver (with nettle), detoxifying the liver and kidneys (milk thistle), purifying the blood (dandelion)and boosting the immune system (cat's claw). A Soft Heat infrared sauna is also recommended for detoxification and the clinical goal is to convert mercury into a state of enabling it to be removed from the cells and eliminate from the brain, connective tissues, lymph system, liver, kidneys and gastrointestinal tract. Chelation therapy using EDTA = Ethylenediaminetetra acetic, a crystal like amino acid that is composed of a chelation agent and as a result forms a sodium salt. This chemical is used to sequester metal ions and is widely used to remove (de-active) trace metal ions). Do dental amalgam fillings contain toxic material? Silver fillings are made-up of five different metals, amalgamated together to form a solid mass which hardens in the mouth/teeth. The main ingredient in amalgam is mercury, which accounts for about 50% of the complete filling. The other ingredients are silver, copper, tin, zinc and occasionally nickel. It has shown that mercury continuously relieves from mercury dental filling in the form of mercury vapor and abraded particles. The process is further stimulated and be increased 15-fold by simply chewing (Americans are known for chewing gums with aspartame, an artificial sweetener harmful to your teeth and health). Brushing the teeth and even swishing your mouth with a solution of hydrogen peroxide can reduce dental plaque. Mercury is extremely poisonous according to published research from two scientists at Utah State University and shows that it is more toxic than lead, cadmium and even arsenic, accumulating over time in various tissues of the body, particularly the brain and kidneys. In human autopsy studies it has been shown that there is a direct correlation between the amount of mercury found in the brain and the number of mercury amalgam fillings in the mouth. In essence, all of the elements comprising dental amalgam are toxic metals. Mercury has a very high absorption rate and is capable of entering the human body very rapidly and completely and the vapor is fat soluble and neutral electrically. It has the ability to easily penetrate cell membranes and pass rapidly into the body from the blood into the body cells and stays there.
